When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
With a week away from the fight canelo is weighing 157.2 and floyd 152.
After this fight will we finally see canelo sticking to the trouts of this world or will he get the loser of little lucas and garcia?!
Just think of the excuses when canelo looses about weight drained and etc.
Surely catchweights need to be eliminated from boxing now or will there always be an unfair advantage?
What do you think?
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
Why will he make excuses when he has been successful and unbeaten this long. If he drains himself it is a calculated risk which has worked. If everyone could do it they would but it takes hard work and dedication.

No, you will probably always need the catch weight option if the sport is to survive. Promoters often need late subs, who can come in at the last moment, that are perhaps a few pounds overweight. Also the sport has a great tradition of catchweight matches.
For instance, watching the Journeyman Middleweight fight the Welterweight prospect can be used as a main event in the small halls, and can create fascinating matches, that give value for money.

Would you be happy to see canelo fight someone like golovkin?
Canelo would get smashed.
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
Catchweights should be eliminated even though they were happening before any of us were even born. Good luck with that.
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
Catch weights shouldn't even be on the radar of casual fans. Fighters can agree to face whoever they want at whatever weight can be agreed upon, the only alternative is that great fights wouldn't happen as often.
Loads of fighters routinely struggle to make the maximum weight allowed for their division anyways, it's not as if catch weights introduce anything new.
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
When they stop paying him superstar money to change it.
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
Mayweather forced the catchweight. This is a junior middleweight fight fought at a catchweight for Mayweather's benefit. He's doing the exact same thing he chastised Pacquiao for doing with Cotto. There is literally no difference. He is a hypocrite. If he can't fight Canelo at Canelo's own weight, that's his bad. The funny thing he is that he fought Cotto at 154 without a catchweight, but he wanted a catchweight for Canelo. What does that tell you?

I agree and at the very least totally eliminated for title fights.

That he's got a lot of pull, and respects Canelo as a threat. He's looked slower at 154 in both of his fights there imo, Canelo didn't complain about dropping 2 pounds, whats the problem? This way Floyd can weigh in just above welter while Canelo might not be able to rehydrate quite as easily and dwarf him, it makes for the best fight between the two. That's what catchweights are for after all.
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
Sorry for cutting off, But do anyone have a live link for it? or know where i can find it?
Kind regards,

Massive risk for floyd at any weight above 147. Leonard saying one thing and canelo team saying another.
Both sides are guilty as they both signed to fight at 152.
Floyds punches nearly knocked out a tired cotto but that was at the end of the fight so they do have some effect over time.
Another question is if cotto is a better fighter than canelo or how the fight would go down if they fought each other..cotto might surprise us all.
Canelo did complain about the weight, but even if he didn't, it would be due to the massive amount of money he is going to make, not because he would prefer to fight at 152.
Mayweather wanted the catchweight AFTER he had said he didn't believe in catchweights on multiple occasions. @imp - even you, the most diehard Floyd fan on Saddo, have to acknowledge that Floyd is a hypocrite for the catchweight in this fight. Right?
Re: When will canelo stick to his weightclass?
Floyd's manager is blaming Canelo's management for offering the 2lb difference and said they made the mistake of offering it. I think Floyd s team should not have accepted if they thought it would make no difference to the fight, but they must think it does.

Catchweights are the fairest thing in boxing, both fighters have to agree, there's no excuses. It would be better if we got rid of all titles and weightclasses so every fight was made at a catchweight.

Lol sure why not. We could increase the divisions from 17 to 34 overnight and onward from there effectively eliminating all divisions.

I was going to cool click that but you dont need anymore;D
That's a sticking point for me also whether I think the 2 pounds makes any difference or not. Floyd should have refused it.

Do you really care, as a fan, whether or not a "title" is on the line? There are virtually no genuine "world" champions in any weightclass. I just want to see the best possible fights, if they have to happen at catchweights that's fine by me. At least I know BOTH fighters were in agreement

That solid gold belt the winner gets is pretty cool.
What's it worth?

Dunno. Its pretty though.
Solid gold...yum yum.
Wonder if Floyd would swap that for $40 million?

No not really. My boxing Utopia has 8 weight classes with one trophy for each weight class or one recognized champion. Failing that if there is to be 17 divisions and belts then there should be one belt per division not 10 and no further watering down by way of catch weights.
