Sergio wants it according to his Facebook account!
Too bad.
That ain't gonna f*<in' happen...
I would love to see the fight happen just to see Floyd flustered for a bit.
Sergio should retire first Hopkins at 160 or 168
I think sergio knows he's physically done, the injuries done him in probably in the last two years so just trying to get a last payday in.not that I wana see it but ill be rooting fo sergio. Three years ago this would have been far more interesting to me, but now not so much.
Yeah agree with the consensus
Afew years ago this would ave been a good fight and Sergio would ave probably dished out loads first official loss but now he's too old an injury prone to make it competitive especially if floyd makes him drain like he did with canelo
Damn shame about Sergio. I love the dude but those injuries of his...Damn.
Sergio could make 154 I'm sure. the guy fought at welter, that and his frame is small for 160. That and I'm sure if Mayweather says fight me at 154 Sergio will say yes sir!
Theres already a thread about Floyd fighting Martinez.

Sergio has wanted it for three years. It's not happening. Mayweather himself has said it.
Yeah but this one is specifically about Martinez. Yours is more of an all encompassing umbrella. In fact all of these points could have been covered in this excellent thread
http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...at-thread.html as further summing up and post fight postulation but then we would have fewer threads and the good ship Saddo would lose some steam.
If you go further back into the Saddo archives you will see that I already started a thread back in 2011 http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...floyd+martinez by employing a time machine and trying to steal your thunder. It did not work though because back in 2010 someone had already posted this http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...floyd+martinez but even that was preceded by this http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...floyd+martinez and then of course more recently this one http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...floyd+martinez
;D
Why would it be foolish for him to go a few pounds under 160? He usually weighs in under 160 for his fights, I believe he was 158 for the Barker fight. I can't see him struggling to make 154.
I think it would be a good fight, even with Martinez a bit past it. He is still very fast and his style could be difficult for Floyd and hell have to press the action too
How the fuck can some of you dislike @Greenbeanz ? Absolute genius poster and you have to commend the research put forward here to firmly put @ross back in his place. :appl:
It can get a lot harder for older fights to keep shedding weight, and apparently Martinez has said he wouldn't fight below 160 so that may indicate as much, could be wrong though. I reckon Martinez may be more than a little bit past it, and shouldn't give up his only real advantage. Otherwise he needs to fight someone before Floyd to see where he's at and gauge all of that, hopefully build the fight etc. I think it would be really dumb for him to come off a long layoff, knee surgeries and a bad performance and then combine it with dropping 5 extra lbs.
Martinez has said before he'd come down to 154 for the right fight. He's looking for one massive payday and Floyd could fight him at 155 and win the lineal middleweight title.
Floyd needs attractive B sides to sell his PPVs. The Guerrero promotion lost money for Showtime, the Canelo fight made them lots of money. There's a serious shortage of PPVable dance partners for Floyd at 147 and 154 so Martinez must be getting a mention by Showtime executives.
Only problem is he has one fight left on his HBO contract. But he's definitely going to be a serious contender for the second of Floyd's four contracted fights if he still has a belt.
Ah ok, so Martinez pretty well has to fight somebody else first anyways. If I were him I'd rather try and make lightweight to fight Floyd than Golovkin at 160, seeing as he wouldn't make much money in the latter. Trouble is who does he fight next on HBO then? Ideally he could gun for say Trout or Lara and come in under 160 to prepare himself, but those are both fights he could easily lose, and maybe those guys are exclusive to showtime as well now:confused: I'm still always confused as to who is with who these days, shame it's so important.
It's a shame for him. Chavez will never see 160 again and Ward is too big for him so there's no even medium money fight for him at HBO. He's only got two or three fights left and he wants a massive retirement payday. That means a Floyd fight is his number one aim. HBO's aim will be to keep him away from Showtime and Floyd. It's difficult for him.
