Smoger has a nice short left hook
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
Thought both guys were dirty as hell, but Smoger was still in Hopkins corner a little bit and it stunk. No idea when that shot was from;D

Lol its hard to tell if its a swing and a miss or the aftermath of a connection.
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
Smoger seemed to go into getthafugoutta here mode after Murat hit him twice on the canvas. There at the final bell he basically flung him off..surprised he didn't kick him ;D
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
Smoger is a prick.
Watch the Lacy v Reid fight. He helps Lacy off the floor and counts Reid when he was decked by an ilegal punch!
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
I like Smoger as a referee but he was very biased last night.

Murat was far worse than B Hop. He constantly hit on the break, punched Hopkins twice when he was down, threw low blows then tried goin Victor Ortiz on Bernard after the fight was over.
He behaved like a bitch n Smoger face palmed him like one as he'd had enough.
I don't think so, he's just much less crafty and so it looked stupid at a few points. He realized no warnings were getting called early and thought he could play the same game. That kidney shot from behind to end one of the earlier rounds was pretty bad from Hopkins I thought, and he was doing his usual holding and hitting/rabbit punching all through the fight without any kind of warning. I don't see how anyone is supposed to box him with a cool head if the ref is going to stand for all that myself.
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
At first I blew up when Hopkins did that from behind shot, but looking at it it was right in the short ribs. Came out wondering more protect yourself at all times?
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
I generally like Smoger, but think he was bang out of order with that final slap at the end. He was pretty crappy all through the fight and kept getting physical with Murat for no good reason. I don't blame Murat for getting a bit mental as Hopkins is slimey and if the ref is on your case too, then you are going to punch Hopkins when he's down. You have to get your own back for the constant turning, kissing, holding, running in with the head etc.
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
I used to like Hopkins and think he did beat Taylor (especially the first fight), but since then he has grown in weight and picked on smaller men, then sporadically beaten evenly sized opponents with a careful approach to who he fights. Dawson and Calzaghe showed that Hopkins is all smoke and mirrors these days when up against solid opposition and he should really retire. He's in it for the money, but he seems like one of these bankers who can never have enough and so it just goes on and on. Give it a rest, nobody cares how old you are.

I used to hate Hopkins and think that if Taylor did enough in the first fight to take it then Hop did enough in the second to get it back. What smaller men did he pick on after Taylor? Hopkins fought his career at middle and as a natural. The night of the fight he was within a few pounds of what he weighed in at.
The last guy to do that was probably Greb or Burley. Careful approach? He jumped two divisions at age 44 or whatever and smoked the man who beat the man. He then dropped down and embarrassed the next coming of Christ. You would judge the mans career on Calzaghe and Dawson? That is like me judging Calzaghe on Hopkins. Not all that enjoyable. Of course he's in it for the money. Larry Holmes fought Ali for the money. You disrespect a legend. Nobody cares what age he is. Are you serious?

His work beyond middleweight is smoke and mirrors. Pavlik, Wright, and Calzaghe were called upon to be sacrificial lambs to the charade. Unfortunately for Hopkins he got it wrong against Calzaghe and was easily beaten. Jones Jr rematch? That was even more of a joke than Calzaghe. Also fighters like Cloud and Pascal are average and thus I don't think they merit any special mention. Hopkins beat Tarver which is fair enough, but Tarver has only ever beaten an old Jones Jr himself. Even at MW Hopkins biggest wins were against former WW's. However, I do think he was a good MW fighter, but his resume is no better than anyone elses in that regard.

Miles your rationale is severely flawed and twisted. B-hop losing a razor thin fight to Calzaghe means he's all smoke and mirrors? What about Pascal, Tarver and Cloud? All big and very capable top light heavies.
Idk how you can demean Hopkins while championing James Toney. I love both guys, but if anyone has been smoke n mirrors in recent years its been Toney not Hopkins.
Easy Calzaghe win, the only thing to dent it was Hopkins embarrassing himself with phantom low blows etc. Pascal and Cloud are top 10 guys, but they are so crude and limited and lose their big fights. Tarver was always overrated and barely has a dozen wins. He is one of those beat a legend people and that's about it.
I simply don't like how Hopkins fights. He clinches constantly and runs in like a billy goat. Now show me the last time James Toney ever tried to fight with those kinds of tactics. Toney is aesthetically pleasing, whilst Hopkins is not. Hopkins has done a lot more in recent years granted, but last weekends fight was a case in point. It was just horrible to watch and against the kind of opponent people picked on Calzaghe for all the time. Hopkins has loads of these on his resume, but gets a pass because he is old.
If you give a toss about Hopkins age, then you are clearly missing the point of boxing. It's simply about the performance. You cannot let someone cheat just because they are old.

"Easy Calzaghe win" what a joke...LOL
You are saying my viewpoint is a joke? Didn't you recently say that Marquez beat Bradley? No, I am not joking about Calzaghe/Hopkins. It was 8-4 in favour of Calzaghe and would have been more without the false buying of time by Hopkins.

That statement is a joke, yes. And yes I dif score it for Marquez, along with 65% of the viewing audience.
Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones was definitely and sadly an "easy fight" for Calzaghe.
However, Hopkins made it extremely close and gave Joe a very hard fight. Joe still won 7 to 5 though as B hop gassed out.
Who are these people voting for Marquez? Few of them have posted these views on boxing forums.
I really give little credence to the view that Calzaghe had a particularly hard fight against Hopkins. It was a dirty fight sure and of course he got knocked down, but Calzaghe showed that he would simply outwork Hopkins. It would always be that way. Hopkins simply got better at spoiling as he got older. The older him made it closer than it would have been and even then had to buy time constantly.

Geez man loosen up the straps on the tin foil hat. You are cutting off blood circulation. They didn't make the Hop fight with Cal to perpetuate some charade, they did it for Calzaghe. Same with Pavlik. It was Pavliks people who wanted the fight to launch their man into boxing heaven. Alas he was ruined. 95% of the boxing world picked against him with Pavlik and he put on a tutorial after coming back down in weight again. The fact remains that nobody in history has done what this man has done and in the manner in which he has done it with the exception of Archie Moore. That is some pretty good company.
Re: Smoger has a nice short left hook
Smoger did the right thing by shoving Murat, the ref could have disqualified him for hitting BHop when he was down.
