heres a silly question regarding the British posters
Im so used to chatting with ya that I forget that half of you are Brits.. I speak with an american accent so I assume everybody would as well.. but in person, you guys speak with a British accent like in those james bond movies yea?
That's a trip.. if u guys met with us american posters, how would u guys greet... like hi mate?
How many of you speak with a British accent. I know its a stupid fuckin question but id like to know how many of u sound like Daniel Craig.. I love the british accent btw.. it sounds very sophisticated
-
Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
Its a pretty varied accent. You do get some 'James Bond' types but nowadays they definitely aren't the norm. You also got the cockney (London) accent and close relations to it, 'cor blimey guv'nor' (if that makes any sense to you!) and all that. There are dozens of regional accents too which are all really different, so much so that some southerners have difficulty understanding a Geordie (someone from Newcastle). Hmm, this is too hard to give a good explanation in the written word, I will find some vids later.
Personally, despite being born up north, I have a pretty neutral accent, like a much less posh James Bond, haha.
-
Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
Like Ryanman says, the UK is a wide spectrum of accent variation. I also think I am quite neutral. MarkTKO thinks I sound American, but he sounds a bit like Jimmy Saville.
-
Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
I have a northwestern uk accent , but it isn't a very strong one , most Americans think my wife and I are Australian ! Which is kinda strange , we are in America now and they all say wow I love your accent ,but have to ask where you are from lol

Yes that is very true.

Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
The regional accents are really varied, Im from Bristol living in the midlands and after 3 years of living here I still struggle to understand everything ;D Many young people in cities don't talk with the traditional accents anymore but a new dialect called 'Jafrican' which is a mixture of lots of culture, someone who speaks like that is rapper Dizzee Rascal.

Anyway I met up with former poster Leftylee when he came to Los Angeles. I couldn't understand half the shit he was saying his accent was so thick. And don't you muthafukkas get sun over there? Cuz homeboy was pasty white. Like Ricky Hatton

Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
I am also intrigued by cunt, by which I mean the frequent use of it on the forum. Miles has called me a cunt a number of times and I find it odd as you never hear that in this state's. I'm not singling out Miles, just using that as a reference point. I see cunt being a regular up in this piece. We use the word douche bag as a derogatory name but not cunt. I would like to add it to the American lexicon but I fear it shall be too great of a task.
So, can you enlighten an American on cunt. Does it describe a certain aspect of stupidity or is it all inlusive

The best analogy of the words meaning is - NVSemin.

Leftylee came up to Seattle and met up with me too. He does look albino and had a very thick accent. He actually did mention how cool it was to meet up with you in L.A. The highlight of his stay as he mention was the gangbang he drunken joined starring your mom. He said that was a Tuesday afternoon.

Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
British accents are very regional and varied. You can pinpoint somebody pretty accurately geographically by their accent here. I may be totally wrong but it may help to imagine Actors/musicians/celebrities from that region to understand how different each British Poster probably sounds. I have no idea but here are some guesses
@Greenbeanz - Westcountry -A Pirate like Robert Newton as Long John Silver
@Memphis -Bristol ? - Westcountry - Blackbeard
@Fenster - Cockney -a very pissed and cynical Michael Caine/Ray Winstone
@smashup - Cockney -Danny Dyer :-\
@superheavyrhun -Mid/South Wales ? -Nicky Wire (Manic Street Preachers)
@Dia bando -North Wales - Windsor Davies/Enzo Calzaghe ;D
@Vendettos -Scottish - Glaswegian? -Rab C Nesbitt :-X/ Billy Connolly
@Master -Midlands - Noddy Holder (Slade)/Jasper Carrott
@Gandalf -Harrogate ? - Brian Sewell/Stewie from Family Guy :lickish:
@Cressa121 -Sunderland -Tony Jeffries -Boxer
@Dark Lord Al -Hell -Christopher Lee -Saruman
@0james0 -Westcountry -Pirate -Sir Francis Drake
@AdamGB -Geordie -Sting -Jimmy Nail (actor)
@erics44- Viking -Hagar the Horrible/Mikkel Kessler
@Saddo -North -Peter Sallis as Wallace in Wallace and Gromit :o ;D
-

I get some of them, but I think you're dead wrong on Wales beanzy. First off, both of the North Walians you mentioned for Dia Bando are actually from South Wales. I'm open to be corrected by him, but I seem to recall, or at least have the impression that he's from the north east in Flintshire, which is generally a softened scouse accent. Think Michael Owen or something along those lines.
As for me, as I didn't really speak that much English as a kid, but read a lot in English, I've tended to adapt to where I'm from and who I'm talking to, and have a fairly decent non regional diction. Nonetheless, I've been in South Wales for six or seven years now, but most people I work with will say something along the lines of 'ew tork posh ew doo.'

I have a scouse accent but I don't live in Liverpool anymore.
When the locals are so lazy with their words that they start pronouncing "Liverpool" as "Lerpool" you know it's time to leave.

Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
My accent is quite broad, Steve Bull broad.
My old man owned a house in Florida once and left me to sort everything out, absolute nightmare having to call the states. I was constantly having to spell everything out over the phone and even then they couldn't understand what letters I was saying. And this was in my best Queens English phone voice too.
I asked for a crate of Bud Ice once in some 7/11 near Joshua Tree Park in California. The entire store just turned and looked at me. "what you say?" the guy behind the counter said.
"Bud Ice"
"What?"
"Bud Ice"
"What?"
"BUD ICE!"
"WHAT!!"
"Forget it mate, I'll get Budweiser!".
Two god damn syllables and they still couldn't understand me.;D;D
-
Re: heres a silly question regarding the British posters
I dunno if @Master is as broad as Bully but mine is a lot like this:
