Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
He's been quoted as saying it ;)
So whats that leave...3 more fights in 16-17 months?
Id be amazed if he left boxing without facing Pac.
-
Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
He will want to hit 50 and out have one fight with the highest bidder HBO or showtime to pay for the last fight.
-
Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
Best case scenario: Pacquaio wins some big fights, Mayweather wins his next few fights, Pacquaio leaves Arum when his contract is up at the end of 2014, and Mayweather's last fight is finally PBF vs PAC

5 years past its sell by date.

I thought Floyd had a deal to finish his career with SHOWTIME, he's a promoter and wants to be big time so I don't see him making enemies with SHOWTIME.
He could wiggle out of any deal with the right money but that would not inspire anyone's confidence in him as a business man, in my opinion.
As for Manny vs Floyd, like Master said it's past it's use by date, and truthfully I'm getting tired of talking about it.

^^this^^
He never says 50 matters to him but how could it not? I imagine he won't say anything about it out of respect to Showtime but if he gets to 49-0 with at least 2 big event type fights(probably each September) he'd be leaving a fortune on the table in what he could make with HBO and Showtime dueling for the record breaker.
-
HBO and Showtime had to join forces for Tyson v Lewis so it can be done :-)

That sounds easy in theory but some things have changed. Back then HBO was boxing. And HBO had way more subscribers. HBO still has more subscribers but Showtime has been gaining ground fast. It's easy to work with a company that isn't a threat to you and has a commodity(Tyson) you want to use. It's a little different when the company with the commodity(Floyd) is a genuine threat.
HBO and Showtime have gotten so close in who's the top channel for boxing that the people that spread misinformation are desperately pointing to ratings.(as if that's an indicator of success to a subscription channel haha)

But if its Floyds last fight on his Showtime deal there isn't any future threat.
It'd just be a one off ;)
-
In that scenario the threat remains, the threat being Showtime. The commodity is gone afterwards, the commodity being Floyd.

Yup. The ship has sailed on it being what it could have been, but it can still be a megafight if Pac stays conscious in his next few fights.

You're kidding right? Watching Floyd make top fighters look unbelievably ordinary is artwork. The guy is incredibly talented. How can anyone not appreciate this?
-
Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
Some of you guys dont seem to understand where jahmez is coming from..
One can appreciate artistry but that doesnt mean that they have to be thrilled by the work..
Jackson pollock for instance. As an art enthusiast, I do appreciate his artwork but does it touch me? Nope..
Floyd mayweather reminds me of those fine bitches who play hard to get. She have all the tools yet she refuses to put it all out.. she may kiss you , touch u, and tease u in all kinds of ways but the bitch never fully lets go..
Ya ever seen kim kardashian sex tape? That bitch is super hot but she cant fuck, its as if she's holding back because she can..
As talented as floyd is, he can dictate the fight and put on a show more often but he doesnt. He's so much quicker and his reflex is that much faster than his foes which means he can be more offensive yet he doesnt let his hands go enough.
Even in other sports like basketball and baseball, its the offensive players who make headlines more than the defnesive ones..
Floyd is truly one of a kind but there is a reason why many people dont like him and it is no fuckin mystery.. he's not exciting..
I would pay to watch well rounded boxers like marquez and Linares over floyd anyday...

Nah he's a shitcunt hype job. I actually do appreciate pure boxing skills - I'm a massive fan of Rigondeaux because every time he makes them miss he makes them pay - and with power. He's boring only because his current opponents have feared the pain, particularly the counter left up your cunt to the guts. Plus he doesn't coon and pull that faggot gangsta shit even though he's had a bonafide hard life with no pro boxer daddy and uncle watching his back and schooling him. Big fan of prime Toney too cos he actually rolled in the pocket and would counter in bunches to the head and the body. But Floyd's just too passive for me and talks too much shit. If watching a stooge pull out cash and repeat some lame rhyming couplet excites you then no worries whatever tickles your pickle. But for me there is nothing more embarassing then showing mates a vid of him cooning himself up as the GOAT then have them walk out of one of his boring ass fights. Pose, feint jab to the head, jab to the body followed by pose, fake jab to the body, bend below waistline to avoid left hook followed by clinch, shoulder roll to avoid right hand even though moved three yards out of range followed by pose, feint jab to the head followed by pose......

Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
we can only hope and pray that this will be his last fight. then maybe we can get a champion in there who is willing to take chances and not fight only fighters he knows he can beat. this whole pacquiao fiasco is sickening. gayweather could prob/possibly beat manny, but as always, he wont even try the challenge. pathetic!
PLEASE RETIRE Floyd. us boxing fans are sick of your bullshit.

Khan ..Maidana..Garcia.. Pac
3 of these guys could easily be in the mix for his remaining fights.
Porter...Alexander and Brook could be fringe.
Who else do you think he should fight
Apart from these guys?
Theres no one left...he's beaten them all.
Only a fool would suggest Mayweather isn't a legend already.
Go look back through the list of fighters he's beaten.
His record is incredible ;)

Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
Floyd for many years has played people for fools, nobody refutes this. I don't think he will go down as one the greatest because of the picking and choosing, time outs, and refusal to fight Manny. His career will whimper out and I don't really care about that. Let him walk, he abused his position to get his money and that's his motivation, just don't let him walk back. Boxing will be just as great without him.

Yup. Marciano is on his hit list just as Moores longevity record is on Hopkins mind. I think Floyd and Haymon have it all premeditated and I've been saying for years that he aims to mimic Leonard. I think he will retire at 49/0. I think he will then appear to be lured out of retirement and probably fight for the middleweight title. Oh he wont find a Hagler out there to copy Leonard completely but he will most likely make a hundred million dollars in the process.

Well, yeah. Castillo took him hard and Hatton was on him until corruption. All around pick and opponent jazz. He hasn't proven himself the greatest. He really isn't.
-
Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
Took him hard could be a little Freudian there:p But seriously, because he was in two competitive fights against world class guys, that lessens his standing somehow? Feel free to point out a fighter who took on all the best challengers possible over years and wasn't given any run for their money, those guys must be slipping my mind.

Close fights in a career of irregular fights at the higher weights. Mayweather has just been tripping and looking for doors. Canelo? He was fighting Matthew Hatton a few fights before. So shit.
Floyd has got silly.

So he's not a great fighter because he's had a couple of tough fights in his career
The guy has been a world champion since 1998. In that 16 YEAR span from then to the present, he's fought nothing but top eschelon guys, most of whom were champions or at least top 5, winning belts from super featherweight to light middleweight.
In that time, not only has he remained unbeaten, but he's won mostly in a way where he has completely dominated his opponents, and allowed him to take minimal damage.
In doing so, he's become the biggest star in boxing history. In this era of highly paid athletes, he is the highest paid of them all.
And he doesn't qualify as an all time great?? Fuck, if that isn't great, I don't know what is.

Biggest star in boxing history! GTFOH, boxing existed before Floyd and will carry long after he has left. He has done nothing that Pernell Whitaker has not done already.

Canelo was far and away the most in demand opponent available Miles, give me a break. If Floyd hadn't fought him everyone would still be adamant that he is/was ducking the guy. It's always once he's beaten people that they were suddenly crap all along, unless they actually performed well against him and then it's because Floyd isn't that great:rolleyes: You can do that with any fighter ever and it's boring as hell. The man has a better record than anyone in decades, only Leonard even comes close and that's because he had rivals. If you were to take away 2 of his fights he doesn't compare either.

I'm no fan boy of Floyd but appreciate what he does which is make the elite look < elite. I was once a Floyd hater. After the Hatton fight I wanted to kill Cortez. I thought Chico would kick his ass. Its always good to revisit and look back with an open mind with the characters in this sport to preserve any sense of objectivity this sport has left. Its like a castle of crooks and charlatans. If not for what happens within the squared circle from time to time it would almost not be worth paying attention.
What I would like to know is who all of these people are that he has ducked? I would like to see a list with names and times? People keep saying he did all this hand picking and only fought those he could beat but there is little if any evidence of that. Any evidence is certainly subject to scrutiny. I mean starting with Castillo if Floyd was the ducker people claim he is/was then he would have never rematched him after such a tough fight. Inside his mind Floyd almost took the first fight as a loss and did what others before him did like Leonard and Robinson.
Speaking of Robinson, most peoples GOAT but not mine, he clearly ducked the crew that made up Murderers Row and specifically Charley Burley but somehow gets a pass. Moore who was also part of that crew was ducked by everyone and fought 160 times before he got a title shot. Many of his duckers are enshrined as atg's. Jack Dempsey never fought a black man and backed out of a Greb fight. I could go on....
So I'd like a list of the guys he ducked leaving out the ongoing circus. If you cancel out the other usual suspect in Margarito(like it or not is was soon after the split),there is no list. I'm eager to hear who they are. Btw, does anybody actually believe that Margareto ever had a chance at beating Floyd?
If you want to continue to call Floyd a ducker then apply some historic meat to it for context and validity instead of simply saying it. If you want to start a top 50 "ducker" list starting with the time Sullivan laced them on in 1882, I guarantee you Floyd wont even make the grade.
-
Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
Well, let's respect the decision of Mayweather about his career but we are simply hoping some young boxer kicks his butt as well ;D
Oh by the way, local prints here in the Philippines reported a dare of Manny Pacquiao to Mayweather. Check it out at Pacquiao’s dare to Mayweather: Let’s fight for charity | Inquirer Sports.

Pernell Fucking Whitaker? You're going to tell me Pernell Whitaker had the fucking star power of a Floyd Mayweather?
I love Pernell, he's one of my all time, but the only thing he has over Floyd is the Gold medal.
Pernell never achieved anywhere near the fame, fortune, or recognition that Floyd has. And like it or not, as amazing as Pernell was, Floyd was the better technician.
Floyd has generated more money for boxing that anyone. And he's doing it in an era where the world could give a fuck less about boxing. It's a dying sport. It's not a mainstream, household sport like it was back in the days of Ali, Leonard, Tyson, ect. He's selling 2.4 MILLION FUCKING PPVS in this day and age and you're talking about Pernell Whitaker? You should be pistol whipped for being so stupid.

For sure. People like to have this romaticized view of "the good old days" where men were men and everyone fought everyone for the love of boxing. BULL SHIT! It's always been about risk and reward.
Ray Robinson didn't fight those guys on Murderer's Row. I don't believe for a second Ray was afraid of any man in the ring, but why would he fight those guys, which would equal a tougher fight for less money, when he could have an easier fight for more money against a well known/mob backed guy? This has been going on since boxing existed, and we're going to say Floyd is garbage because the Pacquiao fight didn't happen? Come on.
-
Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
Biggest earner in boxing history isn't the same as biggest star. Lets be honest now.
If you asked non boxing nerds who the biggest earning sports star in the world is, you'd be there forever until you said "I'll give you a clue it's a boxer" - then they'd say Tyson.

I'm one of those people a fair bit of time and to be honest I dont think the "risk and reward" angle is the same at all today and for a litany of reasons. In many past eras people took risk in order to reap the reward. Now in large measure people either get reward for little risk or claim the reward to little to take the risk. But that's another thread.
Its the "ducking" thing that is getting to me when Floyd is talked about. Its thrown around like he's some kind of chronic and practices it as a matter of course and yet its not even clear that he has done it even once. Its an accepted truth with really no basis in fact. That's my beef here.

Re: Mayweather says his last fight is Sept 2015
So that leaves the two fights this year and two fights next year with Showtime, who does he fight
I know who I would have in mind as his last 4 opponents but I think they may be very different than what occurs
