Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
Carl Froch has two weeks to decide on next opponent; two names in the mix
“The Groves fight is the biggest financially, but I don’t think Carl feels he needs it. The public wants it but as far as he’s concerned he has beaten Groves,” Hearn said.
“I’ll put the options on the table and the fighter generally chooses the fight which is the biggest financially. I think deep down, Carl will want to do a job on George Groves before he retires because he doesn’t like him at all. The animosity is genuine.
“We’re already talking to venues about doing it at the end of May before the World Cup, but if it drags on in the negotiation process, George will look at other options.”
-
I know for fact Frochs dream is to fight in Vegas so I think he does that before a Groves rematch ( if that ever happens at all)
Don't see him risking facing Groves again before a Chavez fight.
Hope im wrong.
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
Hope he give groves a re match at this point I would pick Chavez jr to beat froch
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
well im guessing he will see what happens in the chavez/vera fight first. if chavez wins, he fights chavez, if chavez loses, he fights groves.

Well the title of the thread says he'll decide before Chavez fights Vera. Meanwhile Groves is supposed to just hang about? I know its good money for Groves, but let's not forget it's only "Challenger Money" If I was Groves I would be lining up against one of the other Champs if I Could (Even Ward.) He beats Bika and Stieglitz and even though he loses to Ward, he would put up a decent show and it won't damage his career.
Then he can tell Froch to F**K off and keep ridiculing him for being a pussy coward hype job!
-
Agree .. Groves should start looking at other options asap.
Groves doesnt really have to do anything to force a rematch now.
Its all on Froch ;)
-
Actually Groves is still without a promotion team , he's had offers from Golden boy, Warren etc.
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
My money is on Chavez Jr.

Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
They're just stringing it out to keep it in the headlines.
How can you commit to Chavez jr when he's fighting in March? What happens if he loses or gets injured or what not. You've just fucked off a guaranteed humongous payday.
Froch-Groves is the biggest money fight by miles and a doddle to make. Do you think Hearn wants to give up the chance of promoting "the biggest fight in British history" over being a bit part player on a Top Rank show in Vegas?
-
Froch has gotta be under serious pressure now and his head must be Spinning with self doubt... he's gone seriously quiet all of a sudden too...
He's getting it from his own promoter, Groves is fucking relentless and gets his answer from the IBF in about a week following him presenting a "case" to them to force Froch to have a rematch.
95% of internet fight sites threads and articles want the rematch and obviously so do Sky.
Like I said it really is all on Froch now who will get hammered from all angles if he choses to swerve this.
Id love it if the IBF order a rematch and after reading that sanctioning link you posted maybe they will $$$$$
;)

Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
Chavez Jr is made for Froch, 6 rounds drubbing Jr on his back , Groves well that's a different
story, George wins the rematch.:)
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
If Froch dodges Groves it'll just add to the list of fights he's bottled or tried to weasel out of when he thought he might lose.

The IBF announce the verdict on 25th Jan.
Froch would look a total cunt if he chose to dump the belt and swerve Groves in light of that :)

Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
Froch will want Chavez for the money and avoiding Groves, in that order. Business.
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
See Fensters post. Chavez is far from a cert to win the Vera rematch, and who knows if he will even make 168 there! Is that even the agreed weight:dontknow: It could be another last minute 180 pound catchweight with Jr throwing 2 punches a round and not getting a gift this time, then what does Froch do. If Carl really doesn't want to rematch Groves, he may as well move up to 175 imo. He'd probably want to avoid a handful of guys, but could land a rematch with Pascal on HBO perhaps...

Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
U guys still questioning chavez? Lol he's gonna beat joe blow vera no problem.. anyone wanna put something on that im down..
But if froch chooses chavez over St.George, there is just no way to justify that move.
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
The IBF can't force Froch to fight Groves though, he can just drop the belt if he wants, Groves will then fight for the vacant title. (the fight doesn't even need a belt)
Groves doesn't want that though because he knows the rematch, win or lose, is possibily the biggest payday he'll ever see and Hearn certainly doesn't want to miss the opportunity of cashing in on a PPV stadium fight that will earn shitloads.
Matchroom (Hearn) will be the most gutted mob on earth if this don't happen.

He's about as questionable a fighter as there is with a high profile, and he got a complete gift in the first fight. He couldn't beat you no problem based on that form, it is an absolute no brainer for any good 168 pounder to fight him. Any idea what weight the Vera rematch is set at? Or are they waiting to see what Jr can make again and announcing it 4 days before the fight:rolleyes:

lol yea that was ridiculous and probably have never seen anything like it before..
Rematch is at 168 and Chavez says there will be no problems this time..
Joe blow Vera getting beat up this time..

Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
What Brit is going to pay for a PPV with Froch in it that doesn't include Groves?
He's been a great fighter, with some classic performances, but his shenanigens after the Groves fix have bolloxed it for his market value.
He needs to show some humility after what was arguably a defeat by Groves, and attempt to set the record straight, difficult as we all know because Groves has his number. But that's boxing! Ken Norton and Leon Spinks spring to mind.
-
Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
The pressure is mounting on Froch :-X won't look good if he goes any other direction than Groves ;)

Me...because I'm a boxing junkie and I get fed up when watching a stream and it gets taken down.
The longer this goes on, the more I see the Groves rematch happening and all this "will he, won't he" crap is part of the big sell that Froch didn't need it but he's giving the fans what they want. I'm about 95% sure they'll fight again this year. Too much money involved to not. Froch has a legacy and not fighting Groves would ruin that and the money this PPV would generate all goes in a big, fat retirement pot.
Some people think Hearn is a slimy bastard, but right now I'm loving Matchroom because they're giving us competative fight cards from top to bottom, something Warren & Maloney stopped doing years ago, and something Hennessy has never, ever done.

The money fight for Froch is Groves. Chavez is the star in America, he can fight Vera and sell a lot of tickets and get paid by HBO. Froch would get the short end of any purse against Chavez. In Britain the pound is worth one and a half dollars, the fight would be in a stadium and on PPV. Froch would make 3-5 times more fighting Groves than fighting Chavez.

The weight limit for Bera is 168 and the weight limit for Chavez is 168-180. Anything over 180 and Chavez has to pay a $20 a pound fine and there'll be a weigh-in at 10am on the morning of the fight at which Chavez can't weigh more than 210 or he has to pay Vera $100.
The contract also stipulates that Chavez can only test positive for one (1) banned substance but Chavez is now saying that he's moving his training camp to Denver so cannabis shouldn't be on the banned substance list for this fight.

Wow chavez is in great shape right now.. joe blow vera is going down

LMAO!!!!
Yeah..... poor guy has his hands tied. Too bad his godfather isn't around anymore. Sulaiman would've gotten him a reduction on the weight penalty, to where he'd only have to pay $1 for every 10 pounds over 230. Meanwhile, he'd fork over some "incentive" to get the definition of "banned substance" loosened a bit for Junior.
Poor Junior now has to rough it.

I think its a win/win for Carl and a smart business move. It makes the Groves rematch even bigger down the road. The Chavez fight will no doubt be a pretty decent payday in its own right. Carl may have slipped some and he's not a hard guy to find so imo there is a certain amount of risk attached.
I would have assumed Chavez would have gotten the shot at Bika first given the politics and nepotistic practices of the Wbc. I'll be a little surprised tbh if Froch/Chavez gets finalized even with the press reporting it to be close.
Maybe Groves can get the Ward fight and a big pay day/exposure date on this side of the pond. Its a win/win for him also. A loss to Andre does nothing to harm his career.

Re: Froch to decide on Groves or Chavez Jr in next two weeks
I think Froch will fight Chavez next and Groves will fight a contender to stay busy and win. What ever happens I think they'll fight after that. They want some time to pass to grow the fight even more but they know Froch only has so much time left. Froch has done a lot of talking about his legacy and Groves is a good way of going about it knowing that he stands little chance against Ward who isn't too keen on a fight this side of the Atlantic. My question is though how big a fight is Froch vs Chavez in America?

If Groves goes and loses his next fight it takes the lustre off it. Groves now has to try and find a one fight deal with somebody or else he's going to be locked into a deal with Hearn with no guarantee of a Froch rematch.

Groves needs a promoter/manager asap.
