Just read a story where Cotto is going to be fighting Sergio Martinez, and I can't believe this fight was made! How does everything think this fight will be, and outcome? I know this is the first time Cotto is going to fighting as a middleweight, so it will be a step-up for sure in more ways than one!

Got to admit, Cotto will fight ANYBODY!!! Wish I could get to Vegas to bet my house on Martinez. But much respect to Cotto.
BUT, If Cotto win, he could have his choice of a GIANT PAYDAY.
1. Floyd
2. Canelo
This is the best fight on the horizon.
I see it as two guys trying to take advantage of each other.
Cotto thinks Sergio is broke down. He has been injured plenty, has he healed?
Sergio thinks Cotto is a payday that has no business at 160 and he's right I assume.
I don't expect it to come down to injuries. I think if Sergio is 80% of what he used to be his size, speed and southpaw approach takes Cotto out. Cotto doesn't dodge punches, he counts on a high guard to block. It's vulnerable up the middle slightly to the uppercut when he gets too far over his lead foot and to a left cross simply by body positioning.
If Sergio isn't completely broken this will be a terrible matchup for Cotto
I think Martinez is going to retire Cotto. Don't think he has the physicality or mobility to tax whatever 'wear and tear' Martinez has enough to beat him. He'll be in his wheel house. Come the late rounds his face will resemble a giant vat of ravioli being thrown through a wood chipper.
Cottos face will be a mess like always. But, he is getting the paydays.
Part of the reason why this fight is attractive now is because how poor Sergio Martinez looked in his last fight and how explosive Cotto looked in his. If they had met at 154 when Martinez first called him out three years or so ago, I would have highly favored Sergio Martinez, but now, considering how vulnerable Sergio Martinez looked last time out, and the fact that he's 39 and coming off a long lay off and taxing surgeries, I'm not so sure. This is also Freddie Roach's second shot at Martinez. He might have figured a few things out about the Argentine. Moreover, it will be held on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade in front of wild Cotto fans in New York. It won't matter to Sergio but it could make a difference to Cotto. Ultimately, there is a part of me that thinks Cotto might be catching Martinez at the right time.
Both these guys have undeniable heart and are blood-and-guts warriors. They also operate on a high skill level. It has all the makings of a tremendous event.

His knee went under the knife after the chavez fight but he suffered the same injury against murray that forced him another surgery.... doesnt that tell u anything?

A: A future HOF'er, with his own legacy. A classy fighter who himself has faced the best out there. A natural bigger guy than Cotto, with Cotto taking a step up in weight. Epic showdown between two classy, future HOF'ers.
B: A coddled, pampered, overhyped ginger-haired boy.... who got taken to Boxing 101 by the same Floyd Mayweather who had a MUCH more competitive fight against Cotto. A guy who's a big draw, mostly because his female fans want him to be great. A WBC-made product just like Junior.

Tell me why isn't mayweather, manny, canelo, ggg, the other good middle weight (can't remember his name now), or any other top fighter not running at the opportunity to dethrone Martinez after his surgery's if he's done for? I get it people say cotto is catching him at the right time but he is the smallest person that could be fighting him other then manny and is getting shit on!? The truth is Martinez is the best middle weight right now and cotto is making his first fight at middle weight against the best middle weight out there. There is nothing cowardly about this.
Was not pointing the finger at anyone specifically but rather forums in general concerning this fight. People act like this is some mismatch from hell on the one hand and then claim that if Cotto wins it just going to show how done Martinez is. I'm sorry but that's a crock of shit. Both of these guys enter with disadvantages. Both are battle worn. Both have weaknesses the other can exploit and much of that has to do with the fact that both are nowhere near their best. I admire Cotto for taking this fight, he is trying to make history but I like Martinez more. Both are at the end of their careers and deserve career high purses.
I do think that Cotto believes Martinez is ready for the taking as most of us do. I also think if Sergio looked devastating in recent performances Cotto wouldn't be taking this fightQuote:

The name on the billboard thing is abit diva -ish but Martinez has signed, it's up to Cotto now. If it happens I think he has a good chance but if I had to lean one way I'd pick Martinez. I see his jab and crosses busting Cotto up late leaving him cut and worn down down
I don't think the majority are that transparent and if they are just call them out. Should Cotto win e gets nothing but full respect. But equally is there any doubt at all that when-if Martinez beats Cotto into a bloody mess that he'll be slighted for beating a war torn jr middleweight who arguably hasn't had a high level win in years? People enter with biases and conveniently mold facts around them. But for some, its as clear as day what's at the core. Cotto is a soldier and no doubt about it but the way Martinez is being dismissed as a half conscious corpse with no legs is mind blowing.Quote:

Martinez wins this easy for me if he's anywhere near the level of his last fight. His style is just wrong for Cotto. Canelo would be better for him I think. If Martinez wins and looks good I hope a fight with GGG happens.

He was reluctant to fight Margarito at an official weight of 154 but somehow he found the courage to face Martinez at 160.. lol how can you explain that? Cotto is like a hyenna who only preys on the weak and wounded.
To answer your question, Cotto today is a borderline Hall Of Famer because he lost too many big matchups, sort of like Mosley... But because of his star power, he'll get in...
Margarito is the guy who popped his cherry in the worst way, taking everything away from him including his glossy record, dignity, and manhood.. That's alot to take from a man dont you think..
Margarito didnt have the promotional backing of Cotto early in his career so he wasn't fortunate enough to get the proper fights but if Arum guided him from the start, he would definitely have got into the HOF...
Margarito, just like Orlando Salido, is a fighter who earned everything the hard way with no pampering, ducking, or none of that.. IN that sense, I have much more respect for a fighter like him than Cotto who came into the game with a silver spoon and his mouth and got pampered for years..
However you want to twist it, You can't change the fact that Margarito beat a young Martinez and shattered Cotto's dreams....
Well Salido and Margarito do have being cheats in common.

Yea how Martinez is getting dismissed is ridiculous. No doubt hes not in his prime anymore but 2 fights ago he put on a boxing clinic v Chavez Jr and looked as good as ever in that fight.Quote:
