How would he have done?? Would he still have his 0?? I think Broner vs Khan at the weight would have been interesting if they were at 140 at the same time. Going off the Maidana fight I think Garcia or Matthysse would have beaten him. Provodnikov could wear him down too I think

I think you touched on his problem pretty good. Hubris as I've said before but a hubris built on what was supposed to be rather then what was. I dont see any fighter remaining undefeated if they were to fight those they should or would have say in another era. The problem with much of the hubris in boxing today is that its based on padded or protected records. These guys think they are Hannibal w/o the battles. Broner is a hard guy to discuss because he was hated so much but I think you made a good point on his approach. Like Froch in the first Groves fight, he believed that all he had to do to beat Maidana was show up. He believed that there was no way a rinse and repeat come forward plodder was going to beat him even on his worst day.

I honestly don't think 140 would have made a difference as long as his lackadaisical and self anointed attitude remained the same, equally unless it changes, and he refines his fundamentals it won't make a world of difference in the future.

I also think a run at 140 prior to fighting at welter would have ended the same way with a loss ;) now that he is dropping down I think Broner makes for some exciting fights :D not sure I favor Broner over Garcia, Matthysse but I want to see the fights :)

I don't think weight had anything to do with and its such a pad excuse these days. He's an easy welter and Maidana is no bigger then he is. He was drunk with ego and lost in his own little world and got a wake up call. Whether he wakes up and takes his craft serious is up to him. He could be a little to fragile upstairs or maybe he decides to put in the hard work.

If he fought Matthysse the same way he fought Maidana he would have gotten killed too. I agree with Inuit, it had more to do with ego and fighting a stupid fight IMO.

Exactly, Maidana is no bigger than Garcia, Matthyse, or Provodnikov either. Who knows if he or Broner would have beat any of those guys, at whatever weight.

Well it's pretty obvious he would have done better at 140, to me anyway, seeing as how he was demolished by Maidana. LOL
Everyone is trying to figure out why he crashed and burned so spectacularly, in this thread at least, when he faced Maidana. Everyone had something to say and I think everyone is correct to a degree, he overlooked Maidana, he started believing his own hype, he had his mind on too many things, he jumped up two weight classes, he is simply not as good as some of us thought and of course he's a classless loudmouth without the discipline to stay focused on one thing at a time.
I'm sure Broner doesn't even know, completely, what his main problem was/is. I was surprised he did so poorly against Maidana. I think he is potently a great fighter if he figures out what he wants to make a real commitment to.

he's always had trouble with guys who don't fight at his pace, who overwhelm him with volume punching, for example De Leon and Malignaggi overwhelmed him and both got cheated out of the decision, IMO he'll struggle with anyone who can put the pressure on him and has the stamina to keep throwing and pushing forward, for example wouldn't be shocked if Matthysse was to take him

At 140, I think like most of you. He makes a little noise fighting the lesser guys and other guys who have moved up with him. The problem is guys like garcia, Mathysse and Provodnikov, punch way above their weight.
I flip flop on garcias performances but I could see him damaging broner. Swelling, bruises etc. I think provo or Matysse just ruin him and hes never the same. I think provodnikov eats a lot of jabs and inside punches, keeps advancing and eventually hammers broner and takes his heart leaving broner 2 choices, stay down or find a way to punk out (low blows, etc). Mathssyse's ability to turns the lights out completely on a lot of guys probably wont stop at a stationary shoulder roller... after either or both of those wars Broner might have become the welter version of cordington.

I don't think it would of made a difference personally, its all to do with how much Broner applies himself and chooses to learn. Sure if he had gone to 140, trained hard to back his ego up and learned his craft I'm sure his career would be looking very different right now.

I dont consider maidana as a real WW anyways.. he's a blown up 140 pounder.. its not as if he gained significant power at the higher weight. He's pretty much the same guy who would have beaten broner at 140 too..
Many guys at 140 would beat broner.. lucas, garcia, and even peterson would do him in...
Broner made a mistake of blowing up in between fights and not taking himself more seriously.. had he put himself in check, he could have outboxed broner easily.

It was only a mistake cause he lost. And he lost to a guy the same size who he was supposed to beat with ease. I'm a fan of Broner but this weight excuse does not pass the litmus test. Its become the go to guy whenever a favourite loses. Even Garcia used it for his last less then stellar performance. They both looked past their opponents.

yeah thats true, if he had have won it wouldnt have been a mistake
but it was a massive ask and a massive risk for someone who could have been an absolute superstar
moving up to fight malinagi was a massive risk, after he scraped that fight they should have realised he needed to be eased in to the weight
go back to 140, fight a few contenders that are easyish wins
yeah people would be saying hes fought noone but he'd still be unbeatable and on the cusp of making a lot of people rich
instead they put him in with a big punching welterweight, whos idea was that?
