Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
Do you think Floyd Mayweather will try for the KO against Marcos Maidana, or will he just play it safe and run out the clock for another dull decision win?
-
Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
I've never seen Floyd actually go out of his way to try and KO anybody. He reacts to what the opponent brings. Hopefully Maidana will press the issue enough to make Floyd become offensive and take chances. Marcos is just wild and unorthodox enough to bring Floyd out of his counterpunching shell. Then again Floyd is not the stupid, vulnerable fighter Broner turned out to be. If Maidana just goes through the motions and plods forward with no plan, it'll be a snoozefest of a fight. If he presses the action, we may see a TKO, although not necessarily in Maidana's favor.

Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
I figured floyd would go for the KO as soon as this fight became official. Floyd is in need of a KO victory and maidana is the perfect candidate. He's taking enough heat for taking this easy fight so I know he wants to make up for it with a spectacular KO victory.
Floyd is going to pick him apart and stop him through accumulation of unanswered punches. That's what I'm betting on. I've been thinlking about the outcome for awhile as to when the fight will get stopped.
I plan to wager big on this fight but I just need to figure out when the stoppage will come.
I expect this fight to resemble the Gatti fight except it'll just be a little more competitive.
Floyd by TKO.
-
Good question, I have never wondered if Floyd would go for a KO, it's just not the way he fights. Floyd looks at them for a couple of rounds and then starts picking them apart, if the KO happens it happens but Floyd dosen't normally set out to get a KO.
In Maidana's case I'm not sure, after all Maidana did beat up his bud, Mr Broner. I don't think anyone will ever know, for sure, what is going on in Floyd's mind but this time he might be thinking about a humiliating KO of Maidana.

Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
If ever there was an opportunity for Floyd to score a KO, it is in this fight.
He should at least get a knockdown.
Maidana is a warrior, and has tremendous courage and good power. However, he is fairly slow and quite open to punishment.
We'll see if Floyd is content to be as good as Khan or better.
It'd be great if Maidana hits the lotto, but he's really up against it in this one. I think he's a big, big underdog.
-
Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
I think a decision as always, the only person with a slender chance of being stopped is Floyd. I criticise Mayweather a lot as I think he is a ducking cherrypicker, but I respect his skills and boxing brain. He will try to win all the rounds he needs and won't fight like a hot head looking for elusive stoppages.

Every fight is different and floyd has shown to fight accordingly. With Southpaws for instance, he walks them down behind a high guard and fights very aggresively.
I know the gatti fight was years ago but he was all offense in that one because he knew nothing was going to come back at him. Is Maidana any better than Gatti? I doubt it.
Same thing against mosley. Floyd getting rocked probably had triggered his aggression but he knew mosley was a one trick pony which was why he got into offensive mode.
There is no reason why floyd wouldn't face maidana with the same mindset.
Floyd will be very aggressive in this fight, aiming for the KO.

Maidana has never been stopped and I'm sure a defense first fighter will not be the one to do it.
-
Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
It depends. If you ask his wallet, It says KO. If you ask his hands, they might feel late in the fight, that they've already done enough work and an injury isn't worth the risk.
He's not really a body puncher but if he focuses there, Maidanas been known to be a little soft there in the past. Body shot KO's can be impressive too.
-
That will be for Maidana to decide. Many guys stop fighting to avoid the reply. Floyd won't chase a KO but if you keep coming he'll continue to make you pay. If Maidana is prepared to go out on his shield he probably will. If Maidana gets discouraged he'll probably go the distance.

"Floyd why did you not go for the knock out?"
"because my hands hurt"

"Yes, by any means possible".
I love to see floyd throw a few more combos but it just doesnt happen.
He moves, he picks shots and he defends..it just works.
As long as he wins, im happy.
If he starts going for the ko then he leaves himself more open than usual..why should he risk that and risk his health even more.
Great boxer beats a great fighter every time.

Interesting take. I like Floyds style but whether he wins or loses doesn't effect me. Perhaps it's because my favorite fighters of my youth always seemed to lose their biggest fights. That used to crush me. Now I'm more concerned with the fight than the outcome of the fight.

Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
Floyd will win on points that is his priority to keep the money rolling. If he steps it up he could stop Maidana but I doubt he will. The most aggressive I have seen Floyd fight recently was against Cotto because he was determined to get a stoppage and pressed the action and took chances. He only did that because he knew Cotto was damaged goods. I hope and pray Maidana lands the big punch.

Look, first of all I agree with everything you said but Floyd has to realize that, even though Broner set himself up for his big fall, he is not without some defensive skills, fast hands and that Maidana took him to school while spanking him all the way there.
What I'm trying to say is that Maidana is not a plodding dunce without defensive skills of his own especially early in the fight. I think Floyd has a good chance to take Maidana out late if that's what he wants.

Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
No, I don't think he will.
I think a lot of people are seriously underestimating Maidana.

Maidana being seriously underestimated is a fact!
I don't think he is the one that can beat Floyd though. For what it's worth, I didn't think he had a chance against Broner either.
-
Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
Maidana throws punches from crazy angles and that's his biggest weapon vs Floyd. People think Broner just sucks and Maidana beat him by just throw shots... no, if you watch every punch that caught and hurt Broner were weird power punches that came from a crazy angle or even changed direction mid punch.
Floyd has slowed down some over the years, he can't move like he used to, so I think it is a more legit fight than people are thinking.
The way people talk about Maidana/Floyd is the same way they talked about Broner/Maidana, "Oh Maidana is tailor-made for Broner, stupid fight, ect".
I don't think Maidana is going to beat Floyd but he is always a threat in there with his power.
-
Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
I think if the opportunity presents itself he'll go for it but he of course isn't going to force the issue. There is no comparison with Maidana v Broner really as everyone knew Broner was showing to be a pocket fighter who wasn't hard to miss. Besides, he is Broner. Floyd is going to get Maidana on a leash and snap it with Maidana walking in...give some line slack and then stand him on his heels.
-
Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
I think Mayweather could KO Maidana if he wanted to, but he'll just play it safe and go for the decision win.

The only was Floyd gets a knock out is if Maidana drops his hands and tries to kiss and hug Mayweather.

;D ;D
This is one of those statements that become even funnier when you consider the subject (Maidana), and try to form an image in your head.

LOL. Can you even imagine him doing that. Maidana is such a real warrior that the only way he'd hug Floyd would be so he could bite his ear off. Maidana is a beast! Not like Victor the Pretender.

Exactly. There is very little chance Floyd gets the stoppage when he really should as Maidana is coming from a smaller weight, slow as a turtle in comparison and not in Money Man's league as he has lost to Devon useless Alexander!

I don't see why he SHOULD get a stoppage. Maidana has never been finished before and he's been in some real wars and tagged hard. Maidana's been at 147 for over 2 years now so he's not exactly coming from a smaller weight at this point.

He also got knocked down and severely hurt by a Khan bodyshot. Oh and he lost too. lol
Floyd is going to kill this dude..

Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
Like others have said Floyd will not go in there looking for the KO. But Maidana's style will present Mayweather with more opportunities and if there's an opening Floyd will definitely take it :D

Re: Will Mayweather try to stop Maidana or go for another decision win?
Could survive but I'll just guess Floyd will stop him.
If the Canelo fight continued much longer there is the possibility that Saul might have eventually stopped. I don't see what chino brings that will afford him 12 rounds of constitution.

There was no sign that Canelo was in trouble of getting stopped. What are you on?

The naturally bigger and hard chinned Canelo took a lot of clean shots from the relatively light hitting but well timed Floyd. He was not hurt badly by any shots but by the end he was noticeably red in the face and looked a bit weary from it to me.
If Floyd can time chino similarly I would be surprised if he makes it.
