I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
I really think hes going to beat Canelo, hes a southpaw who has great boxing ability and is good at countering. Going off the Mayweather performance and comparing the Trout performances I just think Canelo is going to get outboxed. Ive liked what ive seen of Lara and I think he has come across really well in the all access. I hope he beats Canelo, I cant say I am a fan of his.

As bad as Canelo got schooled, outboxed, and exposed against Mayweather.... the Cuban Lara knows he's not likely to get a decision win against him. Which means he may decide to exchange with Canelo, which does not cater to his advantages. Were the fight to be held in NY or Atlantic City, on the other hand, there's no doubt in my mind that Lara would school Canelo just as bad as Floyd did.

I have said Lara will be too slick for Canelo. The think about Lara is that he also has pretty decent punching power I think he could do some damage with fast hard punches enough to possibly cause a stoppage from swelling or cuts

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
Lara will have to win very, very decisively to get a decision over Canelo. He definitely has the tools to do it, so it should be interesting...

If you watch Lara's fights with Angulo and Molina you'll see Lara did not like taking shots to the body. Alvarez doesn't ignore the body. And he hits harder than Angulo and Molina. Lara is good and tough. So he could go all 12. But it's gonna be a long, painful 12

Canelo is a one trick pony and will only be effective early, that's ok against shit opposition hence why he has a good record, but it wont work against a good fighter like Lara, hes too predictable.

I wouldn't say a one trick pony but you are right about being effective only in the early rounds. He still fades down the stretch as we saw el Perro pick up the pace before the stoppage and Canelo was tired. I think its a toss up but I think Lara is gonna take it. I bet some money with a friend from work

Alvarez is better than Angulo and Molina. Molina beat Lara. And Angulo dropped him twice. I have a hard time seeing Lara being able to keep Alvarez off him

Hell... even Austin Trout... generally a quiet unassuming guy and one you wouldn't think has a vested interest in the fight.... pretty much says Lara would have to put Canelo down to get the nod. Fellow boxers don't usually get into those discussions about other fights... which just goes to show how popular that opinion is.
I just hope Lara fights his fight and gives Canelo "Boxing Lesson # 2".
It'll be up to the judges to decide who wins.

The traditional cuban style struggles against pressure. Alvarez is not a pressure fighter. He'll have to have improved to win.

lara will win, and get robbed. Duh!!! another bullshit decision in favor of the stations boy!!

i think its a pickem type of fight. i think that lara wins it but i can easily see canelo winning. i dont have a strong opinion either way.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
He has all the tools and basics to do to Alvarez what he has already run into, but he also coasts and can be and has been outhustled. He easily gives up southpaw. Alvarez is the most accurate and naturally bigger puncher Lara has faced but today I doubt Lara has the mentality or consistency to keep him off long term.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
I think Lara takes it too. Canelo will likely get outboxed. I think Lara is just too clever for him.

Lara will win the battle on points but lose the ware. Canelo is coming to KO him and probably more focused than ever has and we should see his best effort to date. Lara is far too easy to hit and was lucky Angulo's eye blew up because he simply could not not take Angulos power.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
I don't think lara is good enough

Canelo is a bully cunt, but he's also the smarter and more consistent fighter with underrated defense.
Unless Lara stays outside all night, doesn't tire and out speeds Alvarez, I don't see him beating the red headed fuck.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
@Ron Swanson nailed it. Canelo at heart is a boxer-puncher, not a pressure fighter, like an Angulo, who Lara struggled with. Canelo also isn't the pure boxer that Molina is, who Lara struggled also with. Lara beat the other boxer-puncher he faced in Trout. It's a tough call. My issue is whether at 23 Canelo has learned to adjust. If Lara runs and pot shots from the outside, which he should do to win, can Canelo pressure effectively and corner Lara into exchanges? I hesitate to say that he can. Also, Lara has a world class trainer in Ronnie Shields and Canelo's trainers are sort of an unknown commodity. They didn't do a good job with preparation for the Mayweather fight is all we know. How was Canelo's camp in that regard? I'm leaning Lara now.

I'm setting on fence this time, but leaning towards Canelo, Alvarez goes to the body as well as most and Angulo was working well to to Lara's body.
Alvarez can turn up the pressure when he wants to and that's a big plus against Lara.
Lara is an in and out sharp shooter who will be a hand full for Alvarez. He's quick, slick, and determined, his two weak spots are his body and pressure.
I'm pulling for Canelo, but Lara is a hand full. I'm still setting on the fence.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
Both fighters have something to prove. Lara, while a slick boxer, often fights in spurts. If this fight goes to the cards, he will have no chance winning on points. Lara also has a tendency to keep his hands down...leaving him open to getting caught with a punch. I am still not convinced on Canelo's stamina. He also fights in spurts and can have a tendency to slow in latter rounds. It's a pick em fight for me. But i feel Lara will be under more pressure to be active and busy...a close fight going to the cards will not be in his favor.

Good point about Lara being under pressure to win big.
The fight has huge implications for both fighters, Lara is desperate to stay on track for bigger fights and Alvarez wants to stay in the PPV arena. This will be Alvarez's third straight PPV fight--I think--so he wants and needs the win.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
I am suprised at how small Lara is and think that he will get beat by Canelo.
-
Still sticking too canelo knocks out or the ref stops the fight between the 8th - 10th round. Canelos boxing is very underrated. I think it will be a long night for Lara and don't think he'll be able to stay away like people are saying.

I thought he was smaller. But he looked bigger at the weigh-in.

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
As Ron and Rant said, it's all in Alvarez' hands as to whether he can pressure Lara effectively, because no doubt -when they start exchanging, Alvarez' heavy and speedy hands will be potent.
Lara is in for a rough ride if he can't get Alvarez to stall.
-
Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
I hope Lara wins then Floyd will have to fight him next. :p

Re: I picking Lara this weekend!!!!
I was looking for the latest odds on the fight and found this hilarious quote:
"Alvarez may have lost to Mayweather in the biggest fight of his life, but the mixed-decision result indicated that the 23-year-old fighter has the mental and physical ability to stand toe-to-toe with the best in the world".
Uhhh.... no.....
The mixed-decision result indicated that one of the judges was blowing Canelo on the side... and that she should have been shot by the ring announcer as soon as he read her score.
BTW, Canelo is the favored fighter, so I'm pulling for the upset victory by Lara.

Does anyone know what weight Lara usually enters the ring?

He's no big junior middle. I'd bet he only hydrates about 10 pounds but I'm not sure.

I don't see Canelo pressuring Lara like he needs to in order to win. It isn't a fight I would feel comfortable betting on, but I think Lara will outbox Canelo. I think the big unknowns for this fight are:
1) Will Canelo come in aggressively and force this issue like Angulo did, or will he try to be a boxer/sharpshooter like he was vs Floyd. My guy tells me he doesn't force the issue and looks confused as he is outboxed.
2) Will the judges reward Lara for boxing smartly or is the decision already there for Canelo. My gut says that Canelo has the money backing him and will have the judges support for any round that isn't a complete blowout. All the potential tonight for a rip off job.
3) How will Lara handle it if he tastes Canelos hook. I see a possibility for Canelo to end things suddenly if Lara loses focus and catches a flush hook to the head. Lara tends to get complacent and he could pay for it.
I won't be surprised either way, and commend both guys for taking this fight. That being said, I think that the most likely scenario is that Lara boxes well throughout and Canelo has another less than stellar performance vs a solid boxer. Canelo is a guy who doesn't like to waste punches and will lower his output and hold his hands when facing a mobile boxer with good skills.
