Boxnation - Saunders v Blandamura etc -SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
So....no Fury but Saunders,Walsh,Hooper,Eubank Jr and the rest still fight
Gethin V Flanangan on Now
Anyone Watching ?
-
Instant Rugby ear for Gethin. Flannagan picks up the British lightweight Belt and I howl fruitlessly into the wind

Re: Boxnation - Saunders v Blandamura etc -SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Some good scraps thus far.

Re: Boxnation - Saunders v Blandamura etc -SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Liam Williams looks class. Great performance tonight. Smith up now whcih would be a very tasty opponent for Williams. Flannagan looked good but Gethin aint got much left (and never had much to begin with).
I dont understand why boxnation didnt show the full card live. Missed a good fight between two undefeated fighters
-
Welcome Fellas, nice finish by Smith.

Easy win against a bum. He needs to step up. Looking forward to Billy Joe. I think hes an excellent boxer

Eubank Sr has no idea what a "humble opinion " is. Saunders has earnt the right to disrespect Eubank and the Kid, his dad and his handlers have yet to see their charge fight anybody of note. So now is the time to STFU.
-
Have always loved Saunders. His speed and skillset are top notch. Just a pity he doesn't have a bit more lead in his punches.

Have to agree and I dont understand this theory that he is taking the pressure off his kid? He's coddling him and at the same time claiming he's going to be bigger then Floyd

I get why people like Eubank Jr and if the smoke is allowed to clear and the mirrors are moved away, then maybe he will turn out to be world class. Until a good fighter hits him repeatedly and avoids becoming a heavy bag training aid we don't know though. He may ship one big shot and fold. He and his Dad need to conduct themselves with more class though. A monocle, jodhpurs and affectations are actually extremely naff ignorant choices if you wish to be taken seriously.

4 of the Italians last 5 opponents. 3/4/1....13/9/1...14/27/1...15/27/1. Billy should only need 1 eye

Re: Boxnation - Saunders v Blandamura etc -SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Blandamura giving his all. Billy looks a little gassed

Quite a few instances in the last year I've noticed of the ref jumping in to give a standing 8 count. Have the rules actually changed? They just willfully ignoring them? Or are they allowed in European title bouts?
-
Re: Boxnation - Saunders v Blandamura etc -SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Cracking shot. Ref made a balls of it. What was he doing.

Billy Joe is a great egg.

Re: Boxnation - Saunders v Blandamura etc -SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Ok, as Bunce just said it wasn't a standing 8 he was trying to give, but was counting as a knockdown as the ropes kept him up. So my question doesn't relate here.

I think he started that count on the basis that the ropes kept him upright. I couldnt tell you who officially runs with a standing 8 count rule. Seems every time it happens no one quite knows why.

Every decent coach he has sparred in front of, whether its bulling Froch back in front of McCracken or out boxing and dropping Groves in front of Booth or doing all these things in front of Eubank Sr old coach Davies they will all tell you the same thing, that Eubank Jr is the real deal!
Look at their respective fights v Pryce. Eubank did what he pleased and hurt him a few times. Saunders struggled to make a dent.

Whats your point? Saunders won comfortably and won every round. Hes not a big puncher it soesnt really mean anything? Its like comparing Mannys destruction of Cotto or Hatton to Mayweather and claiming Pac is better because of that.
Chris Eubank Jr may be the real deal but I dont think we can know. Hes fighting guys who cant throw back and even if they do they have no punch power. Sparring is a different game to an actual boxing match too. I think he looks a terrific prospect and probably is a better fighter than Saunders but I wouldnt be putting him in with him next. Id take the winner of O Sullivan v Fitzgerald if I was his team. Both durable and will fight back but very limited.

What weight was Eubank last night? Was he over the middleweight limit? I think he comes in over in most of his fights?

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this. He came in at 11 stone 9 lbs, 3lbs over. And he looked ripped on the scales, not carrying any excess. Eubank needs a step up in quality, a 6 to 8 week camp focussing on someone , not somebody at a weeks notice, and he needs to hit the weight. Once he does this , and I'm not saying he can't , then we'll know more about what he can achieve in the game.

Thats what he came in against Pryce too. Im not sure if they know whether to run at MW or SMW. Hes 24 so he could still get bigger.

He will fight at middle. He wont be making weight until he has to.
