Kid Chocolate, 30, a big, strong middleweight with vaunted punching power and a big win against N'Jikam. GGG, 32, also, a strong middleweight, although not as big as GGG, with big wins coming against Geale, Macklin and Stevens. How does it play out?

@cyclone - I read a pretty good article here by Stephen Edwards where he points out why GGG's style doesn't call for expert defense. He says that "his defense is good enough for how he fights. An imposing puncher like GGG does not need rapid or freakish head movement. If he did that, it would take him out of position and tire him out. Look at Julio Cesar Chavez or Joe Louis's defense. They calmly parried punches and used their presence to intimidate fighters." Are you sure his defensive faults merit such criticism?
Also, he can't duck a fighter in the weight class above him. Floyd didn't duck Sergio Martinez. Ward hasn't ducked Kovalev. Would it improve GGG's legacy to beat Ward more than it would to beat Kid Chocolate? Absolutely, as it would have for Floyd's legacy to beat Sergio more than beating Maidana.
Why aren't you impressed with GGG? He hits like a mule. He provides highlight reel knockouts in every fight. He's also willing to fight anyone in his division.
I'm not jumping on his bandwagon and saying he would beat Hopkins or Ward when his best wins are against Macklin and Geale. That's a ridiculous overstatement when he hasn't even fought above 160 or against someone remotely on their level. On the other hand, given the way he took care of Macklin and Geale, I'd be surprised if anyone at 160, other than Floyd, could beat him, and I don't think that's overrating him. Do you?
It is the best fight out there and it forces Cotto to have to fight the winner. GGG batters Quillen but in a entertaining fight.
Quillin beats GGG in a SD... GGG has not tasted power. Power that can actually land sensibly. Stevens had power, but he couldn't land. Quillin will land against GGG and it will hurt.... as someone said, if Geale had any power we would be saying prayers for GGG now.
Quillin will hit GGG, cleanly and very, very hard and then GGG will "box" for the rest of the fight- and then lose because people would take that as GGG running and shrinking from a fight.
For me GGG will have a special career. Watch this space.
Kid Chocolate will end up melted chocolate.
Interesting point of view. I think Quillin has a shot too. I'm not sure if he wins, but he's got the power and length to possibly keep GGG off him. On the other hand, GGG has the experience and technique to close the distance and get to Quillin. It would be a good fight.
GGG destroys Quillin. Hits him with one good shot, Quillin gets on the bike, becomes exhausted, and is destroyed late. Quillin has no chance and if the odds are anywhere near 50/50, I'm betting HUGE on this fight. If I get good odds on stoppage by GGG, I'm betting on that. Quillin has natural talent but the wrong mindset and not enough depth to win this one.
Quillin is good, quick and packs a respectable punch. He battered Winky Wright.
GGG really looks to be special though and should TKO Quillin late or win a UD with a couple of knockdowns.
It's a damn good fight though Nd should be made. I read on boxingscene that GGG was looking at Sam Solimon next. Why? Solomon is a windmill and all heart but he'd be taken out quick.
Its one that needs to happen especially now with some pieces sorted out. Cotto should look for his initial defense and these two dogs have been in the yard well before. I think Quillin has a legit shot and has been making it a point to work on boxing. Each has not faced the level and package the other would bring. Quillin attacks with both hands and power that has remained consistent but even as a fan I wonder about his mentality...too patient. Golovkin being 'willing' to give up defense, and equally spar around with a beaten Adama type...that could be a receipt for disaster and Peter would hit him with stuff he has never been hit with. Its a damn fine match who's time has come.
Just happened to see Quillins next fight is with Andy Lee on the Mayweather undercard?
Quillin is no Geale. And while Stevens was stopped, he wasn't knocked out cleanly- he gassed after the accumulation. Quillin has more experience and more durable than Stevens is.
How will GGG respond when Quillin lands? The other key question is how often will GGG be able to land on Quillin to wear Quillin down- Quillin will be harder to hit than Stevens and Geale.
Stevens has a good chin though and Kid Chocolate's is average. Also, Quillin's defense isn't as good as Geale's, but more important, he isn't a lateral mover. Rather, he stands and trades. On the other hand, I'm not sure how GGG will respond when Quillin lands and Quillin will land at least once. Everyone else has. With that said, Quillin has ridden pretty high on his size and speed and I don't know if those attributes are enough to beat GGG. I'm also a bit underwhelmed with his choice of opponents. Say what you want about GGG's level of opponents, but Kid Chocolate's are even worse recently. There are no Macklin or Geale's on his CV since he got the title. In fact, his best opponent was former-title holder, N'Jikam. That makes me question how confident his team is in his ability. By contrast, at least GGG's opponents have got progressively better, from Proksa to Geale. Lastly, Kid Chocolate is not an active fighter. He fights maybe twice a year and GGG fights at least 4 times a year.
Kid Chocolate struggled with Gabriel Rosado, and his power isn't that big of a deal. Golovkin would gring him down and stop him in the mid rounds.
Geale and Macklin were both rated within the top ten. Geale would be the best he's fought? Geale ain't nothing special but he was definitely rated higher than Ouma
So it's fine for Ward to say he doesn't need to move up but not Golovkin :-\ Ward ain't even fighting at this stage :-X
Golovkin knocks out Quillin ;)
Quillin could well have too much length and athleticism for GGG to deal with.
This would be a one -round slaughter
Woold kid chocolate be able to slice and dice this Central Asian charlatan?
For me, Quillin and Jacobs is a toss up, so an emphatic win from either would be a statement and return to form. The winner would clearly be GGGs best challenger at 160, since Cotto and Canelo only fight in the 157.5 pound division or whatever.
GGG destroys him. Ruins his career. Highlight reel stoppage. Kid Ovaltine isn't well rounded or consistent enough to even last the distance. Only a Hop or Ward type of fighter beats GGG.
Yes I think I was closer with my initial quote.
If quillan couldn't beat LEE he has no chance against GGG.
It doesn't matter what Ward has done. What matters is GGGs team made 1000 excuses not to fight. There is no denying they made excuse after excuse. I mean EVERY fighter tries to fight the bigger names because it means bigger paydays, that's why everyone wants Floyd and Pac. GGGs people claimed GGG needed to become a bigger name, it's laughable. Then when he did become a bigger name they said he was too big a name. Even though he was still cashing smaller checks!! And his claims of being too small, well he was willing to go to 168 in 2011 for Steiglitz, but he's a small middleweight when it comes to Ward. He was willing to go to 168 for Chavez, but he's a small middleweight when it comes to Ward. He was willing to go to 168 for Froch, but he's a small middleweight when it comes to Ward. They asked Ward to cut 8 pounds and take a paycut FFS. If you can't admit they did everything to avoid Ward you are simply full of shit.
Ward has wasted his career, that is undeniable. What else is undeniable is GGGs people avoided Ward like the plague. I mean when it was proposed it was 10 excuses and maybe in 2013, then it was 10 more excuses and maybe in 2014, well in the middle of 2014 it went to maybe in 2016. Seriously, I'm not making that up. It's so ridiculous it sounds made up but no, they expect people to believe GGG has so many good fights lined up that the one fight people are talking about can be pushed off for at least a year and a half hahaha. Good luck with the excuses and the fictional fight against Canelo/Cotto winner GGG since theyboth have rematch clauses. But team GGG already knew that, we all knew that, all the talk is just BS
A year later and this fight hasn't even been talked about? Hopefully the Jacobs/Quillen winner sacks up and calls out GGG after their win.
All the same old myths rolled out. Firstly, not 1000 excuses, just one. GGG's team respect Ward to the extent that bearing in mind the size differential, height weight, reach, Ward's undoubted talent etc. that to make the fight a decent match up, they would be prepared to meet halfway (164lb) the reason GGG doesn't need to do that with Froch,Stieglitz and any other SMW you care to mention is because they are nowhere near as good as Ward and he feels he could beat them all at their own weight. THIS IS RESPECT AND A COMPLIMENT TO WARD! Can you not see this?
Next , he asked Ward to come down 8lbs. When? Bear in mind 172lb is not a weight division, it's just just a weight Ward felt he could make and no lower because he was out of the ring for so long, and who's fault is that?
Thirdly, while all this so called talk has been going on, Golovkin has been constantly fighting guys in the top 10 of his division, what has Ward done ? Answer, Fuck all!
GGG's team have always said they like to fight 3-4 times a year, they will not put GGG's career on hold at 32 years of age to try to come to an unlikely agreement with team Ward. If Ward wants to fuck about like that and let his career dwindle away, that's his choice.
You say you're not making it up, and you're not, but you're listening to people that are making it up.
Talk is cheap, it means nothing. Look at the facts, what they're actually doing.
Like I've said before, I'm not saying this because I'm a GGG nut hugger , if these 2 did fight each other, I think Ward would Win.
But let's not go down the route of denigrating a fighter doing well just to try to enhance the status of the fighter you prefer. It has no bearing or relevance and is pretty ridiculous.
