It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
Pacquiao, Roach already preparing for Floyd Mayweather
""People can prepare for (a fight) early next year," Pacquaio said. "It is a fight that I want. It is a fight the fans deserve."
-
Has to be 70-30 split (60-40 maybe?)
Olympic style testing.
Las vegas.
Massive gloves.
147..no catchweights.
Floyd wants the fight
Manny wants the fight
Al haymon wants the fight.
Multi billionaire bob arum WILL NOT leave this earth playing the B side to mayweather..just be happy to get khan.

Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
Should be fifty fifty, just make it happen. Sure Floyd has bigger ppv numbers but this will be bigger because it's Manny. Don't let money stop the fight. It's like Bio Gates and Warren Buffet arguing over a dollar.
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
I won't believe it until these two idiots are in the ring together.

Let it go. This is the one that got away. Besides, if Manny goes to 140 then they will say that its to late in the day for him to go back up and they will need to do it at 142. "We waited to long and we are at 140 now"
I can almost hear it.

Its pride matey.
Fans and legacy doesnt matter to bob arum or even floyd.
Floyd will not do a deal for 50-50.
He is the A side fighter just like oscar was and the big problem is that 92 yr old Bob cant bring himself to accept this.
Bob will talk all the good stuff on the cameras but around that meeting table there is no bending.
This fight CAN happen but only if manny was a free agent or if Bob arum can play 2nd fiddle.
Floyd is to blame as well but anyone in his position would do the same thing when this amount of money is involved.
-
Manny is more for the fans at this point as he has nothing to loose and after he gets 6 losses he can just say he wasnt in his prime etc or ariza shouldnt have left him..lol

Should this phantom fight ever play out, I think its safe to say that neither are in their prime and also that such would be the first thing out of their teams mouth for the loser.
They are both on the slide and one has an 0. Now I would think that if they (Floyds team) were considering it they would want this for the 50th or maybe the Marciano equaling 49th.

Different era. Different opponents.
BUT it would be nice to be 50-0 and floyd must think about this figure bigtime.
48 - khan or alexander
49 - danny garcia
50 - ?

He won't fight Khan or Garcia he'll probably fight Cotto because he likes to regurgitate, rinse and repeat, cover every angle, remove risk, be dull and predictable, fight at home, struggle against muppets and then take instagram pics of himself in bed with his money. How can you take someone like that seriously ?

Who has he regurgitated??!!
He has had two rematches in his entire career!
Smothering himself in money on instagram is what makes people despise him even more and sell even more tickets.
This is a business after all..

Maidana was Embarrassing. This is the guy who lost to Kotelnik, Khan and Alexander and Floyd couldn't close the show. He is not the fighter he was.

Floyd was never going to close the show.
You saw the last round it was appalling.
Floyd chose the last round to run and does just enough to win.
This is not a guy that knocks people out and constantly goes for the kill.
He knocked out hatton going backwards on a counter and only when it was visibly obvious he was out of it he went for the kill.
This is the way floyd fights and will choose to hit whilst not getting hit and it seems to be working well so far..
There are no more maidana type opponents in the 147 divison so you will see a different floyd in the way he deals with the next opponent.
Perhaps the style maidana fought was a slight blueprint to trouble floyd but floyd will be well aware of this...
He is 38 next year and is on the slide but a 80% floyd mayweather is still better than everyone in the division today and the better the fighter the better that floyd will adapt on the night...
I might be wrong..

Era and opponents are not really relevant. The record is and breaking it. It is a boxing Holy Grail.
As far as opponents go he's in a bit of a dilemma I'm sure he never planned on. I think he's lost interest frankly and he is also in a fix opponents wise. I cant see him going mediocre and its quite evident by the problems he had with Maidana that he has lost something because he fed on that type of opponent for much of his career and made it look easy. Swarmers were never an issue for him post the first Castillo fight.
People can split hairs on whether he took the necessary risks in his career until the cows come home but he now finds himself in a position where he may have to take some and at a time when maybe he should not be. He could make a mistake here.
Devon and him are pretty good friends and besides, he'd be crucified by both fans and media for making that fight.
I hope its Khan personally just because of the way the styles matchup.
I think Garcia would have to do something at 147 before getting a fight like Hatton or Guerrero did. Time is running out even for that to be viable.
Floyds in a bit of a pickle and to top it off imo has lost interest hence my crazy ideas about him starting a brand new camp and firing the lot.
-
If devon alexander beats khan and gets the fight theres no issue with that imo.
Khan would be the better choice as the majority believe that yet again floyd cant cope with speed and the style of khan could be very hard to handle at this stage of his career.
At this stage of his life where he is slowing down you would expect an easy (ish) defence and for him to bow out...but like you say he will be expected to raise the bar with these last fights even at this slide time of life as thats the only way he will get paid top dollar.

He had his easy defense against Maidana ( even tho the public picked khan and he said he'd fight who the public said ) it was harder then he expected rematched then pretended to get bit by Marcos cause he was dazed.

True and true. For all we know the winner of that fight is a lock but I just cant see Devon/Floyd. Other greats have waited to long and have went out being beaten by people who could not carry their hand wraps. Floyds at a crossroads here. I think he is starting to fade both mentally and physically. I cant imagine how taxing his life has been?
Shit, maybe the guy decides to retire? Then gets his mojo back like Leonard, comes out of retirement and makes the first 150 million dollar fight?
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
50-0 will mean fuck all if he doesn't face the greatest fighter of his era. Floyd could now retire, at any number, and he's an all-time great.
Try to look at it from the view of an impartial fan - in years to come people wont care about the politics, they'll just see two great fighters that didn't fight. There's an obvious reason why fighters like Leonard, Hearns, Duran and Hagler became boxing gods.
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
With the kind of beatdown Al got, I'd duck Pac...
...seriously, I will believe it when I see them on top of the ring, nothing less, nothing more...
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
It's reached the now or never stage, if Pac really wants the fight then call the PBF bluff and agree to all demands. He will still make a shitload of money.
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
Maybe I'm missing something but how much stock can you put into Arum when Manny has stated intentions to drop in weight, mentions of Jessie Vargas...and requires 144 for a one hundred percent defensive fighter who was never a full welter last night. Its the whole actions/words thing ???
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
Last week there was a rumour that Floyd was trying to make a Cotto rematch for next Cinco to stop Cotto-Canelo happening and avoid competition. He obviously doesn't want to be overshadowed/lose revenue next May. Making a Manny fight would definitely alter that. Floyd and Manny would get the date on HBO/Showtime and Cotto-Alvarez gets bumped.

50-50 and winner takes all ppv numbers

Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
Its now being reported that Manny has accepted 60 million to Floyds 100 million.
Arum, CBS CEO Set Meeting on Mayweather-Pacquiao - Boxing News
My Lord!!!!
-
Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
If that's true, they need to just make the god damn fight. I know it's not what it was a few years ago and everyone is fed up talking about it, but it really doesn't make any sense for either guy not to take it as their careers are winding down. Floyd is under contract with CBS, so if they are involved meeting with Arum etc it may well not even be up to him in the end. His rematch with Maidana didn't do strong numbers, and there is nobody aside from Pacquiao who would guarantee even topping that, let alone by the landslide that fight would. Manny could fight any 2 guys and not make that much money either, not to mention if Arum actually wants it made he won't have a choice either.

Doesnt work like that buttercup.
It SHOULD work like that but it never will.
Whatever happens with this fight manny will have to take less than floyd and it all comes down to whether bob arum will tolerate that or not.
Dont blame me.
Thats modern day boxing business and it sucks.

I can believe itn when it's publish with the commission and they set a venue, but we have seen fighter's back out even then only they are liable. I don't think Floyd will throw money away, if it actually got that far.

Floyd Mayweather Will Fight Manny Pacquiao, Under One Condition | Vibe
Hypothetical Plan Premise: Mayweather makes a $50 Million ghost bet; he losses the fight with better odds; gets the rematch; another $50 million ghost bet he beats pacquiao with better oddds cause he lost the first fight; wins second fight; cements his legacy says it just took him time to figure out pacquiao. Ok, I go with greedy genius.

Both guys are going to make more money than most athletes could even dream of, but still I have to wonder how much less Manny would get for the Floyd fight now as opposed to back in 2010 if he had agreed to the drug test.
In other words, how many millions did that one punch from JMM cost him? I mean we have to be talking high into the 8 figures, because I think originally they were going to do a 50/50 split.

It is there fault about what they could have made for not making the fight earlier. They should be happy with the small crumbs they are making now. :)

I'd actually rather see a Pac vs JMM 5 over a pac vs mayweather. How much engagement is mayweather actually going to allow before tying pac up? He's not going to let pac bang on his body if he can't get to his head. Surely the counters will work but only one at a time. It will end up being a typically lower than normal punch output mayweather signature fight unless pacquiao finds a way to out work the connects forcing mayweather to increase his connects. No way mayweather turns into a Algieri gazelle. Jmm vs Pac has never failed to keep me on the edge of my seat, standing or freaking jumping.
Not that this shit is in context but it does say something.

Re: It could be close - Arum in talks with Showtime for Floyd /Pacquiao Mega Fight
The thing with Pac is everyone focuses on what Pac can do, oh look how fast he is, look how aggressive he is, look how hard he hits. People tend to forget what Floyd does best, and that's making guys miss, making guys pay with counters, dictating pace, strafing guys with lightning fast lead punches and tying guys up when the situation gets too hairy. He does these things better than anyone in boxing.
Manny struggled hard against JMM 4 times. Floyd is superior to JMM in every category. I don't know what people expect Manny to do. Are people really naive enough to believe he's just going to run at Floyd, throw a flurry and get him out of there?
