This is a disgrace to boxing fans everywhere and to the sport of boxing itself. Hes the hardest puncher of all time ffs, why the hell isn't there more gifs than just 1?

Earnie Shavers' KO ratio vs real HW's was only 66%, approximately the same as Chris Byrds!
His punch was savage against Cruisers mainly. And he was one of the most prolific bum beaters of all time. With 90 fights and hardly ANY wins against decent opponents! That's what I would call disgusting!

Earnie Shavers was a decent puncher for a HW but a superheavyweight feahterfist! He was massively affected by weight (and quality), and 90 fights is a very representative number of fights to test him against.

Nah David Lemieux has what Shavers didn't: stamina, skill and heart. We'll have to see his chin tested more to get a good reading on that, but Shavers didn't have heart so he was useless.
He wasn't the hardest puncher in boxing history either, he was the hardest puncher at a time where HW's maxed out at 220 or so. If you're talking pure power generated, pounds per square inch, guys like Samuel Peter hit way harder.

Earnie's problem was stamina 6 rounds & Earnie was gassed. Theres a funny story attached to that fight Tex came back to his corner end of the round . His cornerman said " Don't worry Tex he aint hitting ya he aint hurting ya" Tex replied " In that case you'd better keep an eye on the godamn ref then Cause somebody is" LOL Typical Tex
I talked to Earnie in Dalla a few years ago he said " Cobb must have concrete poured in his chin I hit him harder than Ive knocked guys cold with & he just grinned & said " Is that your best Earnie they said you could punch" lol Their admiration of each other made them become good friends

Bum fights are not meaningful.
I wouldn't credit bum fights for a modern boxer like Wilder and I wouldn't do it for an ancient boxer like Shaver either.
Since these guys records are mostly composed of bums, there true worth can only be assessed once it has been "deflated".

These 3 guys have solid records against solid opponents.
Your man Shaver has a good record too. But it deflates to a bummy record.
Arreola and Pulev were not allowed to fight the CW's that Shavers did. If they were they would knock every single one of them out and add 40 wins to their resume and raise their KO% into mega puncher status.
None of the 3 could get away with fighting as shit quality opponents today as Shaver did because fans, media and analysts would be all over them like rabid wild animals.

Yes because a basically, slightly lighter, shorter, less athletic version of Wladimir but still formidable enough to hold it with any other HW and possibly the fastest most athletic and one of the slickest HW's of all time who also has a cracker punch are 2 guys that are living proof of the pathetic state of the division if they claim belts afterward right.
Yet featherfisted, punch bags like Frazier and Ali, and 220lb slow plodders with clubbing punches like Foreman are idealised versions of what a HW champ should be?

I think a 1977 and onwards Ali loses to Haye but not by knockout.
Any version of Haye, even the CW version would knock out the 60's version of Clay/Ali beyond any doubt.
Despite being fleet footed, this Clay was hit by the slowest of punches still as soon as he was in range and often had poor moments in nearly all of his fights against diminutive guys way smaller than even Cruiser Haye with none of the speed athleticity, slickness or power of Haye, nothing like Haye ever existed then. 60's Ali basically got knocked out by Henry Cooper for Christ sake and never convincingly even beat Liston.
The 70's Ali was a slow plodding overweight but with better chin and good experience. He would nevertheless never be able to land barely any meaningful punches on Haye and could not avoid the clean power shots of Haye which nobody had the capacity to land on him back then. In my opinion he would definitely be knocked out. This Ali was smashed from pillar to post in nearly all of his fights.
It is an insult to claim that Haye is in any way GREATER than Ali. Likewise it is an insult, a STINKING INSULT to insinuate that Clay/Ali, stands any chances vs David Haye, whatsoever!
Again. It's unbelievable!
Just LOOK at their fights for christ sake!
Haye absolutes wasted nearly all of his opponents in some of the most spectacular fashion ever displayed in boxing, then took out a small selection of giant boxers outweighing and outtalling him and knocked all of them out except a 7' tall 320lb real life giant who he still outboxed and Wladimir Klitschko, possibly the best HW boxer of all time to date!
MEanwhile Ali cheats to survive vs Cooper. Loses to a shroter, lighter, out of shape blind dwarf who cant even box and even later to a cruiser green bum.

I have slammed David Haye for all the things he should be slammed for. There are some things about Ali that can be admired far more than Haye even.
Boxing ability is not one of them at all.
Almost all of Haye's career is brilliant.
To what bit can you point to of Muhammad Ali's career on film and tell me that what he did was brilliant? Go on try me. Tell me the fight, tell me the part!

olympic gold medal
He transecended the sport.
He lost 3 years of his peak in boxing.
Noone else has shown more heart and courage than him at the highest level

Frazier I - Ali's most clinchiest fight and the most clinchiest of all time until Wlad vs Povetkin. Ali was almost completely defenceless and got smashed from pillar to post by a diminutive 1-dimensional fighter who couldn't even throw a straight punch who would have knocked Ali out were he not such a featherfist. You credit Ali for a fight which he LOST. Plus it was a BORING fight.
Frazier II & III - Ali clinched over 150 times in 12 rounds, yet never had a point taken away. In Manila Futch pulled the plug on Frazier just as Ali was getting ready to quit.
I give Frazier 2 of the 3 fights as do many others.
Rumble in the Jungle was a magnetizing fight, agreed. In terms of pure action it was of lower pace and action than Wladimir vs Mormeck! The fact he got the win over George was great in any case, but his method of laying on the ropes until Geroge punched himself out was nothing less than deplorable. Never again would this tatic work and as much credit has to be given to the stupidity of George for losing it as has to be given to Ali for winning. But there's more...
Foreman was effectively held prisoner in a stockade (Ali was put up in the presidential suite) and couldn't spar for a month beforehand because of a cut eye. What with that, the setting in a thuggish third world police state, the loose ropes and the quick count, a very strange fight with odd circumstances that benefitted Ali. He was also reluctant to rematch, in spite of Foreman campaigning for one.

Wladimir for instance fought and beat more than 3 great HW champions too (where great is taken to mean a great boxer, not subjectively)
Wlad won an Olympic gold medal at SHW, Ali at LHW
How did Ali "transcend the sport", he was a boxer in the ring and that's all that counts.
How did he show more heart and courage than any other boxer? Like Lamon Brewster? Or Chris Byrd for examples? or Evander Holyfield?
Vitali Klitschko was off for 4 years with injury and in his first fight back took out the HW title vs feared puncher Peter.
