Lee-Quillin in Advanced Talks For Garcia-Peterson Card - Boxing News

So he drops the WBO and the biggest payday of his life against a guy that according to him he would have beaten anyway and now will be the challenger for the WBO. Another graduate of MENSA.
Quillen is mediocre anyway, like Lee.
So this must be one of those bigger fights Quillin was talking about :p
Neither are anywhere near mediocre! They are both very dangerous, if a notch below the elite skill wise. I agree with @brocktonblockbust, you are a hungry man.
I'll be more specific. If the division wasn't weak for the last 20 years and was good neither should ever hold a title. They are good fighters but it's a testament to the fact boxing is in a lull that either has ever been a champion. They should be gatekeepers, that is their level but middleweight is light on talent and has been for a very long time.
Hell, I'll go on. Sam Soliman never should have been a world champion, this older shot version of Jermain Taylor never should have been a world champion. I love Cotto but he never should have been a MW champion.
I reckon he did it for some reasons; 1) Haymon told him to, the new TV deal wasn't ready at the time of the defence so he told him to vacate instead. 2) He said in an interview it gives him the opportunity to become a two weight world champion. 3) He also said in the interview that he was having family problems and he wasn't in the right place to defend his title. 4) Haymon wouldn't have wanted to work with a Roc nation maybe?
Adios Andy, it's been real. Pete Quillen might not have the best sense when it comes to management of his career but he's certainly tough enough to KO Andy Lee who is only in this position because he landed a Hail Mary punch on Julian Jackson's son.
Andy has way more experience and has fought better competition overall. This is supposed to be a made to order Al Haymon moment but its not out of the question that Andy never read the script. And El Andy is here because he fought the guy Quillin refused to fight and knocked him out. The only southpaw he ever faced was a spent Winky and he's never been clocked by a puncher like Lee.
Andy doesn't fight smart, he doesn't control distance well enough and on the inside he's very vulnerable. Pete is athletic, he's strong, he's fast, he's powerful, and he's got a good chin. We've seen Andy's ceiling...it's below Pete
Not a bad scrap style wise at all. Thinking Quillin gets him out late, left hooks beating Andy's neon sign loaded right hand.
Weird thing is Lee landed the hail mary punch against the guy Quillin didn't want to face too. Which kind of adds to a the mystery of it. If its a close your eyes and swing thing for Lee, he's had a lot of success with it. At a certain point you kind of have to say it's deliberate over desperation, no? Lets hope theres one more in there. I'd love to see crazy legs quillin chase lee with a hammer and get stretched, maybe it it will knock some sense into him about his management.
Bullshit. If I were the WBO Quillin would never ever get a title shot EVER!!
I don't understand why Lee wouldn't take the BJS fight in Ireland before taking the Quillin fight, but he ain't making me money, so who cares, I guess.
Quillin-Lee is a good solid middleweight fight.
I like Quillin here because Lee is vulnerable to punchers. Lee has also been down big in his last two fights before knocking the opponents out. It's difficult to imagine how he could do it a third time. At the same time, Quillin hasn't shown too much recently either, and he too can be hit and hurt. Lee is a better boxer than Quillin, but not as big (Quillin used to fight at 168 and Lee fought at 154 recently). Quillin is a bit faster than Lee. Probably stronger too. Footwork isn't either guy's strong suit.
Do you know that Quillin asked GGG to move up because he was too good? ;D
Saunders: I Believe I Can Beat Quillin or Lee Right Now! - Boxing News
Saunders might be on the undercard making his US debut.
M actually happy for him if he is. Being in America a British opponent wont wash so hopefully he will get a relatively decent test. I have underrated Saunders I believe. I cant accept iv over rated Eubank and Eubanks next fight will hopefully prove me right.
I think Saunders beats Lee. Not sure about Quillen as have never seen him fight but if Saunders wins the WBO and Eubank wins the WBA regular after beating Chudinov and Jacobs it sets up a big unification between the two then potentially Golovkn for the winner.
Why would Lee take BJS over Quillin?? Makes no damn sense!
So Saunders gets a six-figure payday for doing nothing, a spot on the Lee-Quillin undercard in New York and remains mandatory for the title? I think that's what you call a result.
Andy Lee - winning that "world" title has always been his dream and defending it back home in Ireland will be the proudest moment of his life.
Two months later he's fighting back in America and was willing to dump the belt for the dosh. Boxing is great....
Peter Quillin - by refusing to face his mandatory he loses out on a $1.4m career high payday and has to dump the WBO title.
Six months later is challenging for WBO title. Boxing is....
@Fenster ... the issue speaks for itself. Quillin must have been afraid of Korobov's pedigree afterall. lololol.... Andy Lee wasn't.
;)
I highly doubt Quillin was scared. I think most boxers would fight king kong if you offered enough dough.
Al Haymon + RocNation don't currently mix. Boxing politics. Completely mad.
Apparently they paid Saunders 6 figs to step aside. Not a bad nights work for sitting on his ass? THink hell be on the undercard in his US debut and will get a shot at the winner if he wants. Id fancy him against either of the 2 to be honest. He'll prob be a decent price against Quillen too.
There was no real good reason for Quillen to vacate the title. It has just meant he has been inactive, sitting on the side lines, training but not getting paid and having to justify it in interviews for no good reason.
This is a good solid fight between top ten middleweights.
Thinking on it there is no way this misses shootout. It feels like Quillin is in need of rebuilding, Lee at peak of new momentum. Its a solid scrap

Can't wait for this, really hope Lee can do the business and get another stunning knockout.
Maidana was out for less than 6 months after getting a decent payday against Broner. Given he was fighting Floyd next and with the promo obligations that goes with that he took no time off. Quillen is yet to recieve a big payday and has taken a year off. The comparison, like most of your posts, is just stupid
