Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
Last week I had the misfortune to watch CNBC which is arguably one of the worst channels ever created. Even the atrocious BBC seems saintly by comparison to this evil self centered channel obsessed with making the 1% cream themselves over the fact that they have the world on a platter and can feed on the carcass of a dying middle class. It is nasty stuff. It is also one of the many channels that has been giving excessive coverage to Apple's latest creation....a watch! Yes, a watch! You can wear it on your wrist and here is the twist, it has an interactive screen! Yep life changing stuff indeed. These people on CNBC were literally drooling over the prospects of this watch and I just wanted to throw up all over the floor. Hundreds of dollars for a watch? Okay it's cheaper than that Rolex stuff, but it's still a watch and a tracking device. Why do we need watches in an age of clocks? Why is the news nothing more than the promotion of central banking, products and war? I turned off the television and shouted defiantly "Take your stinking watch and piss off and leave me alone Apple. I think you are all that is wrong with the world and you treat your workers like shit and your shares need a hammering". I didn't really say that, but needless to say, I will not be buying their poxy watch.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
It's good to see the ever awoken Russell Brand ripping Apple to shreds too. They do appear to be a rather despicable organisation.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
Russell is brilliant. I have never bought an apple item just for those very reasons.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
A girl I work with pays £38 a month for her phone, 2 year contract she sees nothing wrong with this despite showing her 12 x £38 = £456 a year for a phone she doesnt use, 2 years = £912.
Apple has a strong market indeed.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
I am on a Sony X peria U £10 a month contract and the 2 years will be up April and I will go down to £5 a month.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
I have an iPhone 5 and I don't pay a cent because it's a work phone :D
But for the watch? No. I never liked watches, never wore them growing up, and don't plan to start now.
What does the watch do? I guess it does everything a Fitbit or similar device does? But what else? You're not going to watch media on the fucking thing. On such a small surface already, and then all the real estate you'd lose fitting a rectangular picture into a round surface. What is the point of these things?

They should have some kind of standard even for stupid. Now they are reinventing things already invented. When does the new apple bulb come out? This is stupidity for the sake of stupidity. California has about i year left of fresh water supply and these dog stools are reintroducing a friggin watch.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
Nay. Its clear they have run out of ideas.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
There is enough sheep that follow the product.
It is funny Samsung do the same stuff and sometimes better for cheaper. That must hurt apple. :)
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
I noticed that Apple installed an "Apple Watch" app onto my phone with the latest update and it won't let you uninstall it. Cocksuckers.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
It is good to see common sense prevailing. We are living in an age of great tyranny and corporate hegemony, but many are woken up and reject the horror show. With a little perseverance Apple shall indeed have to die and a good thing too as they are evil, parasitical, government snitches who won't even pay their taxes. Now I have nothing against not paying tax when it is a moral stand, but there is nothing moral about a vampire squid corporation like Apple.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
I love watches, collect them. Have quite a few. If you are going to sink money into a stack buy a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, a nice vintage omega or something. I wouldn't buy an Apple watch. I do encourage everyone here to buy at least three as I have Apple stock.

I can't imagine having something so expensive (not even a few thousands for a Rolex) just hanging their on your wrist. And 25k watch? I'm white and even I would stick someone up for it.

Well 25 k might be a bit to much, even 2.5k is way to much for a watch. I haven't had a watch on me for a long time as i always have my phone on me. I had it on a night out, and i still checked the time with my phone.. it's more like a jewellery.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
To any ordinary person that kind of price range is beyond reach. I've never really worn a watch. I mean, when I think of a product I think about use and the simple truth is that I have little use for a watch. I have clocks all around me, so why would I want to look at my wrist? Maybe it is a status thing for some, but that is a vacuous and shallow thing to really care about. The fact that English women might fall for such a gimmick doesn't surprise me. That is a nation addicted to celebrity, status and false idolatry.

You seems to be pretty smart! I agree it's useless to buy things you wont use, good thinking! and i do apology for what i said about british women i take that back, i can't talk for all of them but for one of them though
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
No need to apologise, as I actually think there is likely some truth to what you say. There is also some truth to my comment too, but it is a sweeping statement to be saying that British women are all materialistic shallow whores. Of course, only some of them are. I should add it to my list of modern myths.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
I don't know, I'm not into status or impressing people, I still wear tiedyed shirts and jeans but I have a solid gold Rolex and a nice stainless movado along with numerous other timepieces dating to the early 1900. When you think about it, all you really need is a little note on your wrist saying "now" and you will always know the correct time, regardless, I'm hung up on watches and don't plan on stopping, damnit
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
You seem a little different in that regard though, Walrus. You are not wearing it as a seduction device or saying to people 'Look at my watch, now kneel before me'. You just seem to have a thing for watches and collect them and that's perhaps a different thing.
Do you really own Apple shares though? :o
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
Yes, but I had a chance to get in when they were very low and I went a different direction. I actually think I may get a few more shares, I think they still have a lot of upside and an incredibly loyal following, mind you, I don't own any Apple products but they are a great company.

No different than Gold. They are both morally indefensible, unethical investments. People die making or mining them, and you and Walrus profit at their expense. Carry on :p
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
Give an example of an ethical investment. All things considered precious metals is hardly like investing in fast food, electronics, or arms. In fact golds current problems stem from a manipulated price as ever conducted by the banks you all use and thus it costs more to mine than produce the gold. The lack of a true market value is what is unethical about gold. Mines should be running a healthy profit for what they do.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
I don't even own a cell phone yet because I feel like I don't need it (and in Canada we have the highest prices in the world for a contract, thanks to our monopolistic market) so I don't even see the use of such watch. I mean, to me, it simply looks like an iphone you can't call with with a smaller screen and attached to my wrist.
Fuck it.
-
Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
These things are all nothing more than spying devices anyway. I was trying to figure out my crappy new free phone yesterday and I cannot even get the weather without giving my permanent location to Google. No fricking way. Have you read through the terms and conditions they put upon you? It has all gone too far and if anything we really need a new Luddite movement to bring us back to reason. Pen and paper and store any excess documentation in sealed compartments on the moon.

I don't know, I see nothing wrong with investing. I'm not Warren Buffet, just a guy trying to make a limited amount of capital grow. I do think Apple does some bs in China and they can certainly afford not to do it. I think most Americans who have ira, 401k and other investment vehicles are in Apple and probably don't even know it. I don't know if you have an invested pension fund in your neck of the woods beanz, I'm jealous if you are able to be secure enough in your future where you don't have to invest. I just want to try to avoid working until I'm 87 if possible. Who knows, the market could tank tomorrow and it would all be for naught. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
-
I don't have a pension fund or excess money to invest.

Everyone needs insurance and a backup plan. It is called responsibility. Some of us need to provide our own health protection and retirement. Or else we die or we starve. You keep cash or rely on the government and that is now the biggest lottery of all. Everyone should have a plan b c and d. There is nothing wrong with investing but i draw the line on a lot of investment as it does make me ill. Oil corporations for instance are bad but I drive! Hypocrite! Sure, but I dont have kids. You buggers are the drain, not me! It all ends with me and thats my contribution to an overburdened planet. I drive because I have to, I dont have to invest in the war machine and I dont. I have tried to be responsible. Unethical? I limit my impact.

Make your mind up Miles.
"There is nothing wrong with investing but i draw the line on a lot of investment"
First you have a go at people buying their own home
and then it turns out.....you have bought your own home
Then you tell us everyone in the UK are mugs for working basic minimum wage and that you would not be allowed back in if you wanted to
and then it turns out you and your wife were offered a well paid opportunity to do so and you turned it down
Then the tired hoary old chestnut of people having kids being a drain ?
Firstly you don't pay UK tax so nobody is taking your precious money away Mr Scrooge
Secondly both my Kids are grown up and working thereby contributing more than you. I don't have the luxury of a backup plan, but I am not moaning about it. You seem to think the world should all be made up of identikit Miles'. Ok we get that you made the decision not to have kids. Has it made you happy ? :-\ All it seems to have done is left you with way too much time on your hands.
Then it turns out despite you sporting the traditional cardigan Sports Jacket wearing Proff look, you don't even wear a watch !:o Weirdo

I dont think you understand that people in other countries do not have a welfare state. That people dont have children because they cannot afford them. That when you are old nobody will be there for you. People like me cannot rely on my own country. I have to find other ways to survive. I pay a uni pension but need a lot more service to get anything. That is why im careful. I never want be homeless again. It gives me the chill
There is nothing wrong with having a place to live. My attitude is i dont care about speculation. It can stay the same for all i care. I need a place to live. Of course i do a few things to not rely on savings and we both work bloody hard. We cover our own health insurance and have few other things on the go. People should. I worry to fuck and i aint even got kids. A man shoukd invest his heart takes him. I like gold.

Interesting, I have been thinking about silver. Gold and silver are not investments in the traditional sense in the US as they are not taxed as investments but actually fall into the collectable realm. I need to figure how that works. Gold has been coming down lately. Silver has so many industrial uses and I keep hearing about a shortage but I only here that from people trying to sell silver. The one fund I have that has done scary well is a biotech fund. So I'm doing some research before making some changes. I don't consider myself a highly skilled investor so I make sure my investments don't keep me up at night. I understood your comment about investment miles, it actually made sense. Anyway, Apple recently made the Dow Jones and att was taken off. That's kind of the pinnacle for a stock, don't know if that will start to slow it's growth.

Re: Apple Watch - Yay or Nay?
The battery lasts for as little as three hours and the watch doesn't work unless you've got an Apple phone in your pocket. What a piece of shit. Doubtless people will be queueing round the block to buy one and then never fucking shut up about it if you're out with them. Do you know I've got an Apple watch? Do you know what it can do? Look! I don't even need a phone anymore! Except I do or the watch doesn't even tell the time. Fuck me.

I have a £20 traditional watch but I am not a huge Apple fan which I already said. Granted it was 3 years ago

Much more informative and on topic. I think most of us agree it is a daft product. Imagine if all the parents were to buy their kids a gold coin each christmas instead of all this consumer junk. Children would be learning self responsibility and money management instead of consumerism and spending beyond ones means. But no, every christmas its families getting into debt for stuff they dont need, with kids abused by adverts and competition, and everyone struggling another year. Merry Christmas. And my Apple watch is now outdated already better get the new one next year. The system on the whole doesnt want you to think for yourself. That is why we throw kids of 18 into a world of debt. Personally I believe it to be an extension of the child abuse epidemic. It is why the media will never criticise McDonalds. They dont care about poisoning you and will promote the Olympics and bribe the kids with crappy toys. They will shove Apple down your throat. It is immoral to want and expect those around you to participate in a consumerist fiat ponzi sceme. All I do is try to suggest other ways. It starts by rejecting pointless and invasive tech.

I think the apple watch concept is cool as fuck and it is the future whether people like it or not.
Was looking at them on apples site yesterday and the fact you can receive calls on a wristwatch and have a conversation through its is brilliant.
One day we will look back at smartphones and laugh 😉

Understood, a few of us are critiquing the thing like we are the final say but if it sells the way it does it obviously has positive qualities. I don't even have the internet on my phone but I will eventually. The only thing I'll use it for is to check saddo when I'm out and about. Strange, probably eighty percent of my internet usage revolves around this place. I am on the verge of getting an excellent new job, I say that with hesitation as I need to keep it realistic as it is not a sure thing. Point is, if I get the job it will force me to go more high tech than I'm used to.I really hope I get the job.

I myself had a little interest in those old chronometer certified watches. I thought they were mechanical wonder. You probably know it's really difficult to make an accurate watch using only mechanical parts so these are exceptional ones...
