GGG takes on Monroe Jr
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Didn't he win the Friday night fights tourney? If it's who I'm thinking of then ggg will destroy him. Hes a decent fighter but nowhere near the level of ggg.
-
It's getting a bit silly now Golovkin not getting this division sewn up and unified.
It's just 1 step forward then another step back because the the others simply don't want to fight him.
He should just move up to Super Middleweight and go after some of those guys if he can't secure a Cotto fight next.
The problem Golovkin has is that he needs a huge Ppv fight to launch him into that elite end of boxing, talent wise he's already there but he's not box office yet so he badly needs a huge name on his CV and fast, he's not a young fighter either so he needs to make a choice and soon
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
I don't understand this match up. It's not a fight I have any real interest in seeing and a stay busy fight when he is in his prime and should be going for big fights? I don't get it.
-
At least it's better than Tureano Johnson.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
he's ducking me. This is more than abit silly at this point----Monroe Jr, really? Gee, what a fight.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
For Golovkin its good, because he build his own career by being busy and putting another title defence in the history books. People are so focused on that he should chase this and that "A-level"boxer, instead of letting them come crawling when the pressure from fans are too severe on the glamourous primadonnas. History will always tell about inactivity, and ducking real threat hurt careers. GGG pummels on and defends his championship like the champion he is. Let him do that, because in this game you are not considered old at 30 anymore.

no that's Adrian Broner's style. I beat him with 2 fists to his crystal kazakh chin.

That's good because GGG isn't 30 anymore. He'll be 33 before his next fight. He'll get a record, good for him. But if he wants to be remembered as a great he has to beat great fighters, that's how it works.

Has GGG stated he is capable of moving to SMW? Otherwise I think today's fighters have totally trashed the idea that a solid fighter can stay at one division and rule it-especially if that is where their body is most comfortable.
Stay busy fights with Monroe who? is okay so as long as a threatening foe isn't being ignored. To GGG's advantage the socalled bad boys are ignoring him, not the other way around.
Rule the MW GGG like Monzon, Haglar & Hopkins, rule it until he want to move for his sake, not the fans.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Cotto has to fight him soon. then he will be declared lineal champion and he can move on.

He will bid his time and pile up those defences, that will enhance his greatness. And fight by fight he will come closer to those defining moments where he will be judged. Not getting those superfights immediatly will only benefit for him.

I think a superfight would benefit him greatly but I see where you are coming from. It's not like he's not calling p people out.

Golovkin has stated many times he wants to fight a SMW but says he wants to unify the Middles beforehand.
I just hope he gets the mega fights against the likes of Froch etc before he starts to age.
If he wants Froch which I'm sure he does then that fight needs to happen in the next 12 months but money wise what does Golovkin bring to the table for Carl?
Fuck all unless he can at least scalp Cotto convincingly.
There's a big chance that Froch and Golovkin might just be ships in the night unfortunately which is neither a fault, just bad timing.
That is one fight that true fight fans badly want to see 😉

No, actually. They are almost the same. In fact, Johnson's record is a little better... more ko's... fought better competition... and Johnson was robbed by the ref in that Curtis Stevens fight, a fight he had won every round and was stopped 2 minutes into the last round and he wasn't even off of his feet or suffered a knockdown.
Johnson matches up, on paper, better than Monroe Jr. lol...

That entire post is wrong. And this mentality is awful. Sport is about competition.
And another poster mentioned "ruling like Hagler, Monzon, and Hopkins" it's not the same, they fought the best. I like GGG but I absolutely hate what is happening. People are turning a blind eye to the fact his handlers aren't even really trying to make big fights. They are using his busy schedule as a cover. We want to fight in May, why? If there is no meaningful fight in May, why? By the time he has his fight people will be locked up again. Why not stay available and push for a meaningful fight? It's a matter of what is better 3 5 million dollar fights or 5 3 million dollar fights. It's the same to his promoter. It's great for meaningless records like title defenses(great, you beat 20 inferior opponents so do most people on the way up) but what is lost is the 3 *GOOD* fights. Boxing fans seem to think these days that KOs mean excitement, that's f'n sad. Excitement should come from top quality competition. 4 years this man has been champ "cleaning out" this division. It is not clean, he has more trinkets, he gets paid more, but where are the significant fights? Down the road, I remember everyone saying that 2 years ago, and last year, now we're 2 fights into this year. Pay attention to what's happening people.

Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
To be fair to GGG all the other top contenders seem to be tied up or not answering his call :-\ Cotto acting like a diva, Quillin/ Lee set to fight, Martinez still not sure if he will continue, already beaten Murray and Geale, Taylor in custody, Soliman might have been a possibility, Sturm moving to 168, N'jikam/ Lemieux are heading towards each other, Jacobs/ Truax going to fight, Saunders waiting on Quillin/ Lee winner  I actually think Johnson would have been a better than Munroe, but Munroe has some momentum after winning the Boxcino tournament and the Vera win ;) it's a fight that will continue to build Golovkins status :D

Miguel Cotto-- doesn't want the fight now.
Sergio Martinez-- is in rehab and semi-retirement and odds are he does not fight again, let alone fight GGG.
Peter Quillin-- does not want the fight and is already engaged.
Daniel Jacobs-- has a fight coming up in April.
Hassan N’Dam-- has a fight coming up soon.
Jermain Taylor-- just a waste of time and may be side-lined again due to his own stupidity.
Marco Antonio Rubio-- was just destroyed by GGG.
Andy Lee-- would take the fight but already engaged.
Dmitry Chudinov-- just coming off of a loss to Eubank and really was not in play.
Sam Soliman-- still in rehab.
Felix Sturm-- engaged with a fight already.
Daniel Geale-- was just destroyed by GGG.
Martin Murray-- was just destroyed by GGG.
Billy Joe Saunders-- has not made a whimper since eaking out a win vs. Eubank.
David Lemieux-- already engaged with another fight.
Jermall Charlo- engaged with another fight.
Eubank Jr.- has just recently fought Chudinov, and could have been lined up but he obviously wants a rematch with Saunders and the winner of Lee/Quillin.
Patrick Nielson- does not want to fight outside of Finland. And if you are going to fight Nielson, then you may as well fight Johnson/Monroe Jr.
Sergio Mora- could have taken the GGG fight.
Willie Monroe Jr- could have taken this fight AND HAS taken this fight. But he and Tureano Johnson are almost identically ranked by the WBC and the WBA. So you could have had either, plus Johnson is signed with Roc Nation and has had more exposure and a tougher fight schedule than Monroe- Johnson having fought Stevens, most notably.
Tureano Johnson was also slated to be GGG's next opponent. But Monroe talked himself into it.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Also for those calling for GGG to move to 168, what's the guarantee the top guys there fight him? Ward is inactive and would need a tune up fight, Froch wants Chaves Jr, the Abraham/ Stieglitz - Sturm round robin will play out for a bit, Anthony is gfight Jack, Andre and DeGale look set to fight, Bika going to fight Stevenson, is Ramirez a better opponent than Monroe or Johnson
Instead of blaming Golovkin the finger should be pointed at Cotto at this stage :-\ and Martinez before that ;)
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Cotto is the villain in this drama, holding on to the title he won from a bicyclist/soccerplayer turned boxer(who started at welter). Miguel plays it safe and he loses the hard earned respect as the clock is ticking. If Cotto had any momentum, he has lost it and will surely be in a tough spot if he fights a middleweight next.
What we all want is GGG to become the true champion, because the division will die with a cherry-picking champion, just like some lower divisions have died because of Pac/May moving up and doing the same.
But in the meantime just enjoy GGG for what he does and the big drama shows he puts on. Be a fan and enjoy the moment with him so we can remeber them in the future, not nagging about him facing the cowards who are supposed to be stars. Otherwise we forget to appreciate what he delivers in his fights.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Monroe jr. is literally not going to know what hit him here. Good kid, but if Golovkin is compared to J.C Chavez..this will be his John Duplessis.

Agreed, it seems standard-when a young bull comes in, the best bull is almost past it.
If he wants Froch which I'm sure he does then that fight needs to happen in the next 12 months but money wise what does Golovkin bring to the table for Carl?
I can see Froch passing him up-at this stage Froch is looking for legacy or $$ not to prove he's tough. He's already proved it.
Fuck all unless he can at least scalp Cotto convincingly.
There's a big chance that Froch and Golovkin might just be ships in the night unfortunately which is neither a fault, just bad timing.
Oops, should have read this b4 I typed the above! We are in agreement.
That is one fight that true fight fans badly want to see 😉
If GGG is the man, then in a few years you don't think there is a bad mofo a weight class below that will move up? I do.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Hopefully Monroe Jr. gets paid well for this. He's on a nice little run as of late.
If GGG only fought twice a year..I'd have a problem with this matchup but since he fights 4 times a year...I'll cut him a bit of slack. Top names aren't exactly rushing to face him.
He desperately needs a big name opponent or unification by the end of this year.
-
Re: GGG takes on Monroe Jr
Much prefer an active fighter over an inactive one, sitting about waiting for a payday. Eff that. Keep the momentum going, and from his perspective - if you don't fight you don't get paid.
-
GGG is a piece of crap. He doesn't want any big fights nobody is ducking him at all

If you want him to move up in weight, do you apply the same logic to Andre Ward? He cleaned out the super middleweight division when he beat the Carl Froch in 2011. That's literally more than 4 year ago!
As to Hopkins, he's considered by most to be a great middleweight, what were his big wins at 160? Tito and Oscar coming up in weight? What's the difference with that and wanting to face Cotto coming up in weight? In fact, I would argue that the wins over Tito and Oscar are what brought Hopkins into the realm of top dogs in boxing. Hopkins' reign at middleweight consisted of the likes of Mercado and Carl Daniels, capable foes, but no better that Murray and Geale.

1) I have never said he is avoiding big fights. I am saying they aren't attempting to make big fights. There is a difference. They say we're fighting at X date at X venue and then look for who can fill the spot. They should look for the opponent and then get the appropriate date and venue. Because it is the opponent that matters. They are doing it backwards. We've already seen the venue cost him a better fight and the date cost him a couple better fights. Start with the OPPONENT!!!
2)Andre Ward should move up in weight. Right after he fights GGG. Why is every GGG fan so eager for Andre to get away?(you don't have to answer that I know the answer)
But even at that you have it backwards again. Andre has had the big fights so he is allowed more leniency. Many seem to think there should be more leniency to those that haven't had big fights. That's wrong because THE SPORT IS ABOUT FIGHTS. After GGG has had his big fights he can do whatever he wants.
3)Oscar and Tito were significantly larger than Pac and Mayweather, or even Cotto. But I don't rate Hopkins as some great middleweight run either. I consider him a great MW fighter who lacked great MW fights. The same as I view GGG. Hopkins legend is from after MW really. When he was a diminished fighter but took on so many top guys. We don't know that GGG will last until 40+ he needs to do what he needs to do to get a big fighting he wants to be relevant 20 years from now. Don't pick a date and a venue and then look for whoever fits. Figure out who you want to fight and make it happen.
Why are some against this guy having a good fight? Please someone explain this??? He's good enough, let the man eat!!!

History will always tell about inactivity, and ducking real threat hurt careers. GGG pummels on and defends his championship like the champion he is. Let him do that, because in this game you are not considered old at 30 anymore.
That's good because GGG isn't 30 anymore. He'll be 33 before his next fight. He'll get a record, good for him. But if he wants to be remembered as a great he has to beat great fighters, that's how it works.
He will bid his time and pile up those defences, that will enhance his greatness. And fight by fight he will come closer to those defining moments where he will be judged. Not getting those superfights immediatly will only benefit for him.
What are the
big fightsthat his handlers aren't making? I don't see any fights that he's avoiding at 160. I actually think that he has faced or is facing the best at 160.
If you want him to move up in weight, do you apply the same logic to Andre Ward? He cleaned out the super middleweight division when he beat the Carl Froch
in 2011.
GGG fans don't want to see him challenged because they NEED A HERO and don't want him to lose.
