Looks like this is going to brew up nicely until a showdown happens ;D
Curious quote "first earn a fight with me". That is exactly what Beterbiyev has said he would do. But "he hasn't earned it" is the normal way to swerve a fight these days. I don't take Sergey as the type to swerve anything but that quote really stands out. The fight certainly isn't ready yet but in a year....

Anyone got a feeling that Kovalev v Beterbiev happens before Stevenson who is pussying around.
I think Kovalev - Stevenson will happen at the end of the year. Kovalev beating Pascal means he is the official WBC mandatory contender. They will push for this fight to happen IMO.Quote:

Beterbiev is a scary dude, but this isn't the amateurs. Kovalev has shown he can fight 12 hard rounds and maintain his power deep into a fight.
That's what I've been reading, too. It's amazing that Stevenson is actually afraid of Kovalev, I mean where he comes from, what he has been through, what he has accomplished, and the fact that he is a belt holder doesn't seem to matter. Stevenson is afraid of Kovalev and is being forced to fight Kovalev!Quote:

I would like to see a Beterbiev/Dawson fight... could be a great step up for Beterbiev and can put him more in the framework than he already is. Beating up Cloud was good too. The LH division has slowly and steadily crept up into the most competitive and exciting division out there. Means a lot of money...

We have to wonder if this is a Forrest/ Mosely situation where anytime they fought amateur or professional if one guy just has the other guys number. ... Or if things changed, and a fight between the two now shed light on all the difference of training coaching and learning can make. To me it looks Beterbiev does well swarming a guy and mugging him, but a big part of me wonders if he can fight going backwards. We've seen Kovalev step back and drop a right hand over the the jab on numerous occasions and then use that as a springboard toward at all out assault. Beterbievs looks to be trained by Pacals trainer (-roy jones, - sports psychologist, -nurtitionist, etc)Quote:

I agree 99%. I'll wait before endorsing Beterbiev. Only because I can kind of see what Kovalevs saying, Beterbievs 30 with 7 fights where as kovalev 1 year older with 21 more fights and is the peoples champ and has most of the belts. Beterbiev may have to cover a lot of ground rather quickly to get this rivalry kick started in the pros.Quote:

Kovalev knows something about doing your time and earning the spotlight. He's completely right and Beterbiev should keep amateur glory in perspective...as well as a completely used up wooden legged Cloud. Do work and beat Kovs left overs. It'll be fun to watch.
I'm not following the amateurs but I read somewhere that Beteribiev got the decision in two close fights, Kovalev was saying the second fight was a home decision, suggesting it was a robbery.Quote:

It'll happen at some point but it needs to be built up first. Or at least Beterbiev does. He'll probably fight on a Kovalev undercard at least once before they actually fight.
