The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
just who is going to step in and fill the tremendous void in both of their divisions once they retire which we all do hope is frightfully soon actually not soon enough haha.
Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder or just who will B the next hw icon? and what about in place of Floyd Mayweather after he is gone
-
Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
Maybe not Straight away but long term I see it like this.
HW - Rivalry between Wilder and Joshua, maybe Joseph Parker down the line.
LWW/WW - Terrence Crawford.

There will always someone who take the boxing by storm, and will climb the ladder and get some attention. it will always shine on someone.

Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
after mayweather - fantastic, id be happy if i never heard his shit again
after wlad klit - even better, what a shit cheating style and what a unispiring poor period in the HW division, worst in history by far
-
Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
It's hard to say. Guys like Mayweather and Pacquaio bring a lot of people into the boxing tent, and I'm not sure if anyone can keep the people there after they're gone.

I hope you aren't losing any sleep over this or letting the stress build too damn high. Are you tossin' and turnin' in the middle of the night? Lol
I know what your real problem is, you aren't fooling all of us. You are scared that when Wald and Floyd are gone you aren't going to have anyone to piss and moan about. Nobody to rant and rave about, no more hissing and scratching, and no more running back and forth along the fence barking and barking!
Never fear, here are some replacements.
Lamont 'Happy Feet' Peterson
Barry 'Mr Fight Plan' Hunter
Sergey 'The Idiot' Kovalev
Adrien 'I Got Problems' Broner
Julio 'I'm Mad At Daddy' Chavez
Tyson 'I Can't Resist MMA' Fury

how about Walter "I Dropped My Drawers and Got Buggered in the Shower" Magillicuddy?

Can't agree with you this time. For me it's about the fight, sure I like some fighters more than others, but when you get down to what draws me in and keeps me coming back, it's the man against man contest of closely matched fighters.
I just can't see the retirement of a couple of fighters having a drastic effect on boxing.

If that's some kind of twisted proposal, I'm not flattered and absolutely decline! Lol

We're not talking about a "couple of fighters", we're talking about the two biggest draws in boxing history. You can take every single boxer currently fighting and add up all the money they generate, and it wouldn't even come close to matching what these guys make. And that money is going to be gone sooner than later: both guys are nearing 40 and have hinted at retirement.
You take any industry or economy and take away it's two biggest sources of income, and it's going to have a drastic effect. You can't even argue it. I've heard so many people here say that Floyd and Pac retiring isn't going to have an effect on boxing. I'd love to know who they think is going to make up the difference.

Manny, GGG, Crawford and BOTH Garcia's with Kovalev.

Make up what difference? Boxing is a global sport it's not the UFC.

He can't realistically go from Algeri to Mayweather expecting anything but an ass-whipping.

How many great boxers have retired in the past? Boxing is still here and doing well.
Floyd will retire, Wald will retire and boxing will go on. Slightly diminished? Certainly not, their retirement will mean matches to fill the void, if any exist. IMO

Vlad mentioned alongside Floyd is a joke.
He is nothing in this Country and his ratings prove it.

Not popular like Floyd or Manny in the US but hugely popular in Europe and Russia. If he fought more in the US his ratings would be much better, not that I really give a squat about ratings.
Don't forget that boxing is a worldwide sport and isn't centered in the US. Wait till it takes off in China, those will he exciting days for boxing fans. Agreed? Lol I'm going to have fun pissing you off!

Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
Joshua is up there as a star.
Broner had all the chance in the world to be a world star also, in fact he practically was, but fucked it.
-
Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
You need an unbeaten, somewhat invincible, hopefully charismatic guy to bring the casual fans on board
Charismatic and regularly kayoed don't work
Another 80s Tyson isn't going to emerge. I dunno :-\
From a Brit angle I'd love to see Joshua grow into such a superstar - especially now Audley's retired too

Make up what difference? Boxing is a global sport it's not the UFC.
The difference of the hundreds of millions of dollars Floyd and Pac generate every year for boxing, and all the millions that Klitschko generates in Germany.
Boxing has always been a "star" attraction. Contrary to what most seem to think here, boxing does not sell itself. A boxing match can be held in a banquet hall in front of 30 people, or it can be at the MGM Grand in front of millions of spectators and PPV buyers. It all depends who's in the ring.
Guys like PBF and Pac bring in millions of dollars for not only themselves but the promotional companies, the broadcasters, the venue, the city, ect. They generate true mainstream interest that in turn brings more interest to boxing. The money they generate gives the promotional companies the overhead to put on more shows and pay more boxers. The interest they generate gives guys like Al Haymon the momentum to make deals like the NBC one, where boxing returned to primetime network television for the first time in many years.
A genuine boxing superstar isn't a job position that you can just take resumes for and reposition. It's a rare thing to find someone who can resonate with the general public and be a big PPV seller. Yeah, boxing will always be around, England will find guys who can fill up Wembley stadium, but America - which is the MECCA of boxing, let's not kid ourselves - is going to take a hit. I'd still love to have someone explain to me how losing your biggest revenue source is good for any business or economy. Fucking retards...

Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
When boxing's biggest stars retire the money they generate is gone. Genius.

How did boxing survive before Floyd had his 10 fights at the MGM Grand on PPV? Remarkable.

The man is a very good fighter, but in his attempt to be Floyd II he has made himself look like a clown.

When Manny, Floyd, Wlad, and Froch retire, all those boxing promoters around the world are probably going to throw their hands up in the air and say, "That's the end of boxing as we know it. What the hell are we going to do now?"
Are you trying to say Manny, Floyd, and Wlad are bigger than boxing?

First off, what does you statement about sucking and knees have to do with boxing?
The center of boxing is where the most interest or the biggest fight is. It could be Canada, Germany, the UK, Manilla, China or the US. Right now it's US because of the Mayweather fight.
Sir, I know what I like and want to watch. I don't care about ratings and I don't check them.
China is going to be huge, billions of fans, love their athletes, and have money to spend. PPV heaven.

Re: The sport of boxing after Mayweather and Klitschko
We'll be fine. The amour plated cockroach of sports that is boxing will once again carry on, may even flourish with the new found everyman exposure with the networks now. Again. No one or two men "make" boxing. Especially when one operates on the exclusive 25k for a mouth piece level and the other took his trunk of trinkets to his homeland pulling millions when beating up guys with names most Americans have to look at three times just to spell correctly. I honestly wouldn't fear or concern over two leaving so much as who we're missing and yet to see break onto the scene. With May 2nd around the corner, look at the contrast of the two super stars and its the best of both worlds. Mayweather was primed and groomed for stardom from day one. The package..charisma, pedigree and showmanship but unlike some clowns who try...and are allowed...to take short cuts today he had substance and can fight a lil. I can't stand the fucker...but you cannot knock his run if for anything its longevity and his boxing brain. On the other side Manny was one we didn't really see coming, at least I didn't. One minute I'm watching hbo and the next this raging kid with the funny haircut and the name I had to look at 3 times is absolutely destroying an established champ on De La Hoyas undercard, rest is history. Trying to predict any form of this erratic self abusing but spectacularly awesome sport will drive you to a padded cell if you let it. Best just to enjoy the ride.
