I think if AJ stops Johnson we can safely say he's the real deal in terms of punching power but for me his chin will remain untested against a big puncher.

Yes Johnson is just a steady durable pro , however if Joshua KO's him it will be impressive.
However like Fury we haven't seen him get hit by a big puncher at top level yet.
The guy he banged out on Saturday has gone 12 rounds with Briggs, 10 rounds with 21-0 (19 ko's) Charles Martin and 8 rounds with Molina - who is fighting Wilder next - in the past year.
I watched a vid on IFL where old Kingpin was kicking off with the crowd in Birmingham. Certainly can talk a good game
I don't think they'll be much wrong with Joshua's beard. We've seen him go over in the ams and get up blazing back
There's a difference between being chinny and terrified of being hit. Joshua has a confident spiteful streak in him, something that guys like Price are lacking
I dont think its even so much the punch resistance of Joshua but can he actually fight back over the distance in the pros. Hes getting bulkier muscle wise and thats all going to burn energy.Quote:

If and when Johnson feels Joshua tiring he may change the habit of a lifetime and turn it up. It is a big step up in class, and I said from the start of his pro career that the most difficult thing with Joshua is how to match him and how quickly to bring him on.
However, I don't think they have any choice because of the way he's smashing people out. If he beats Johnson, there's no going back then, he will be moved along even quicker. He hasn't got the same experience, but he's the same age as Fury, and I think it's time to push him on.
Johnson can give it the big 'un in the ring on Saturday night, but I firmly believe he's going the same way as the rest have so far. Yeah , he may last a round or two more because of his ring knowhow, but I do believe Joshua will KO him in no more than 6 rounds.

Its ok to say he has no more available opponents to push him and they have no choice but lets be fair, they havent put him in with any live opponents who still have ambition. Even a not very skilled or particularly dangerous fighter, just some opponents with only a 1 or 2 losses who will try to make a name for themselves and make him work harder for his stoppages. Hearn should have a list of opponents ready to go and be fighting every month or 3 weeks if they are just going to fall over in the first few rounds.

Hughie Fury has just fought someone who is better than anyone Joshua has faced and potentially more dangerous than Johnson. I'm not sure if Rudenko is potentially better than Johnson, and I'm not going to rip Hughie Fury because I think he's coming along great, nothing but positives for him .
The point is Joshua is destroying everybody he gets in with, he's not giving Hearn much choice, and I think he NEEDS THIS . When he won the Olympic title, I didn't rate him that much, I thought he lost against Savon and Cammarelle, but the rapidity of his improvement means he needs bigger and bigger goals.

With regards Johnson and Rudenko, Rudenko is tough and has stamina and its quite conceivable hed outwork Johnson if they fought and I said he was more dangerous than Johnson because he is a tough aggressive fighter whereas Johnson is a tough defensive fighter.
Look guys Joshua has not put a foot wrong so far , why is anyone negative about him ?
Let swait and see how it pans out before we judge him.

Hes progressively getting heavier muscled, hes put 12lb on over the last 7 months because his trainer is obviously making him or allowing him to continue to body build. Hes not that young that his body is still developing, hes purposefully putting muscle on for some reason and this will contribute to him tiring over the distance as well as the poor opposition not preparing him or putting him under pressure.
Hes going the same way Haye did going in the Carl Thompson fight.

I know Joshua's cousin owns a Gym and is involved still and was involved in bulking AJ up years ago and even the sky sports team have picked up on this, he showed good hand speed before and definitely wants to keep that in his Arsenal.
Anyone else think this is a worry?
We have moved to the US model with Sky having ppv fights and destroying the mainstream fans of boxing.
You can see they are creating Antony Joshua for the ppv market which is why part of me would love him to come crashing down like Khan has.

Ultimately, it depends on his bone thickness. Can't say either way, as I can't find a read on his wrist thickness (best indication of bone thickness), but if the bones are big enough and his bone marrow can supply an adequate amount of red blood sells to fuel his muscles then the stamina issue is okay.Quote:

Mobility on the other hand; well I suspect the stiffness is already present, so I doubt we'll ever see a fluid-looking Joshua, unless he balances his workouts.
With regards to the fight - I think despite the obvious jump in 'class', I don't see Johnson as an upset kind of guy.
Joshua could well look terrible but I still think Johnson, for all his showmanship outside of the ring, is a missive let-down inside of the ring and will never achieve any kind of genuine success ever again.
He'll find a way to fall short.

Whether or not it's a PPV depends on what type of boxing fan you are. Personally I much prefer to pay 20 quid for half-a-dozen 50-50-ish title fights than say May/Pac, where you had one fight with no undercard (Cruz/Loma in gimmes).
In fact I didn't buy May/Pac but I will gladly buy this (and hopefully make the bookies pay for the PPV several, several times over).
If you've never heard of bods like Selby, Linares, Gradovich, Johnson, Ryder etc then obviously it means nothing.
As long as he gets an elite defence and keeps improving the jab he should be fine.
Your basing that weight increase on his total body weight. Its only his muscles that have got heavier, not his bones or organs. So then its a bigger percentage of muscle increase which is massive and will do nothing for him as a championship distance fighter.Quote:

I guarantee you after this fight or against someone who will make him work over the distance that his weight training will be brought up as a reason he has stamina problems over the distance. He fines doing the amateur distance but wait until hes made to work past 4 rounds. He will end up like Haye, Price and Bruno. To be a better fighter he will have to change trainers because its clear hes spending too much effort on body building. 18lb of muscle when you are already big is a big increase and thats not from circuits, sprints, bag work, sparring, even general weights etc, he has been trying to put muscle on amd I dont think its been for any operational reason, just for his ego but it will come back to bite him and hearn in the ass.
