Floyd should have done more.
I am a big fan of floyd mayweather but he should have done more in his last fight against manny.
I had the fight 8-4 or 7-5 in his favour and watching the fight again a lot of floyds pitty pat Moseley jabs were taken on mannys gloves.
He was the boss on the night and never looked in trouble but he never seemed to have manny in any serious trouble either but it was more frustration.
I agree with floyd Sr that he should have pressed it a bit more with more combinations to cement the win.
Winning is important whether it's an inch or a mile but floyd could have at least shown us a bit more than second gear!
I know that's how he fights and he plays an excellent chess game but at least one of the rounds he could have shown alittle bit of the beast mode.
-
He won. That's what he always does.
Look, I'm not falling for this BS of Floyd Sr. suddenly becoming critical of what Floyd does in the ring. The words were probably put in his mouth by Floyd.
Part of Floyd's exit strategy? Maybe? I don't take anything at face value that comes from Floyd's camp.

Re: Floyd should have done more.
Floyd total dominated manny I had it 9-3 and I only gave manny a 3rd round because I felt I needed too, really 1 sided fight not sure what else floyd could of done to be honest.
-
Re: Floyd should have done more.
Floyd won the fight, without a doubt, and I can see a solid case for 9-3, or even 10-2. That being said, I feel that the fight and performance by both competitors was underwhelming. I know many will just say "that's just Floyd's style" and point to his defensive brilliance, and maybe they are right. For me, I compare his performance to Pernell Whitaker, another defensive whiz who took on his biggest threat in Julio Ceasar Chavez and Sweet Pea was much more impressive offensively. To put in perspective, Ehitaker was credited with landing 311 punches (and he stood right in front of Chavez and was so slick he shut down an offensive juggernaut) where Floyd landed 148. Floyd is extremely effective in the ring and a great boxer, but I don't see myself buying anymore of his fights or even caring much if he wins or loses, his last fight was enough for me.
-
Re: Floyd should have done more.
I would have loved to have seen him get aggressive and close the show, but he's at a point now where he's going to take ZERO risk and just focus on retiring undefeated.

Bean-Hole
Maybe you would have 'loved' to see Floyd smash the little guy's face in, and dislodge his brain.
Is that what you're saying.
You're probably the type of guy who enjoyed watching Muhammad Ali getting his brain
'scrambled apart' by Larry Holmes.

Wasn't Parnell 10 years younger than floyd in that fight ? At floyds age pernell was getting stopped by Carlos bojorquez.

What you did not give Manny the 4th round where he rocked Floyd?
-
Re: Floyd should have done more.
Floyd should have done more!
I am unsure if he was unable to because Manny is good or that he could not be bothered since he does not fancy it any more.
Either way Floyd is not worth the money he is paid and he is laughing all the way to the bank because he is on a fat contract and getting away with his non-entertainment.

Yea I gave manny the 4th 6th and 10th but the 10th was close just saying manny only had two strong rounds

Re: Floyd should have done more.
I think Floyd's injuries kept him from getting the KO. Riiiiight?

Re: Floyd should have done more.
Bob Arum

"We're talking rematch for late this year, or early 2016."
That's possibly, another '9' figure pay-day, of course less my 'cut'. Hee Hee."

Yes, Pea was about ten years younger. That was just one example though. When Evander Holyfield was hyped to fight Tyson the first time, regardless of his actual age he was ancient in terms of wars n wear n tear. Despite those limitations he put on a hell of a performance and got the stoppage win. BHOP was close to Floyds age when he fought Tito, another big hype match up. Hop put on an ATG performance and destroyed Tito.
Look, Floyd is the best of his generation and a very skilled fighter. He is great at doing just enough to win rounds and "dominate" a fight. He is also very boring to watch and vs Pac could have stepped on the gas and taken some risks to give the fans their money's worth and he never did. So, I don't hate the guy or think he's a bum or coward, but I have zero interest in ever paying to watch him negate the other guys offense for 12 rounds again. If that is worth 50-100 bucks to U to see, knock urself out.

Was Holyfield ever a slick boxer known for his defensive skills? Bernard was fight a blown up jr welter who had illegal handwraps to give him power his whole career but Bernard knew he couldn't hurt him since he got caught cheating in the dressing room before the fight.

I would say Tito was closer to Hops size than Manny was to Floyds. If Tito was a blown up Welter (he had just blown out the universally recognized #2 middleweight in his previous fight), then Manny is a blown up Flyweight. It's a stupid argument and insignificant post Rocco, quit trying to argue semantics. Bottom line- Floyds a great fighter but should've done more.
-
Tito just bet the number 2 with LOADED GLOVES. Bernard made sure Tito had normal regulation wraps for their fight. So he knew he could go after him.
Also I'd argue that Manny is a more multidimensional fighter than Tito. You have to worry about Manny's movement, his angles, his speed his combos. Tito needed to be set up on the front foot to throw. Bernard put on a masterful performance never letting him set to throw but as I said before Bernard knew that there would be less power on Tito's punches because of the legal wraps.

Are you REALLY trying to argue this?!?!?!? Manny had recently been knocked out, was past his prime, much smaller and fighting with a TORN ROTATOR CUFF!!!! Tito was in his prime, just as big as Hop, undefeated and coming off the annihilation of #2 guy at 154 (Vargas) and 160 (Joppy) and was a HUGE favorite to blow Bernard out!!!!
Again, question was should Floyd have done more than land 148 punches (most insignificant) and the answer is YES!!!! Previous fight of the century was Ali vs Frazier 1. Watch that fight and compare to the Floyd vs Manny farce. Watch Taylor vs Chavez 1 and then compare to that farce. Watch Hearns vs Leonard/Hagler n compare those to that farce. Watch Evander vs Bowe/Tyson n compare. Carbajal vs Gonzalez. You get the idea. Floyd's great, but could care less about the fans. For almost $200m for the last fight, he should've cared and done more.

Also, just to help you out, Tito didn't have loaded gloves, his hands were wrapped in a manner that was legal in Vegas but illegal in New York so he had to re wrap them. Margarito had loaded gloves vs Mosely. You're welcome for the education.

You seem to lack the ability to grasp the reality of THIS fight and the fighters involved and are instead comparing the words used in promoting the fight like "fight of the century" to past fights fought by different fighters. They chose "fight of the century" because it was going to generate the more money than any other fight this or last or any century(probably all combined). Floyd is not Hagler or Leonard. He is not Holyfield or Bowe. He is not anyone but himself. He fought exactly the same fight he always fights. So how can you say he should have done more? Pacquiao should have done more. Pacquiao is the one who threw 500 less punches. Pacquiao was the one who connected with less than 82 punches. Pacquiao was the one who made little to no effort to cut off the ring or attack recklessly to take his opponent down. Mayweather fought to the blueprint he always fights.
You look like a fool suggesting that Floyd be someone that he's not. Hes the highest paid athlete in the world 3 years running. He's the highest paid boxer ever. He's the reason everyone bough the fight. He must be doing everything just fine. It's chumps like you that are still trying to put the blame on him for dominating Pacquiao that are a fucking farce.

You're completely bat shit crazy Rocco. Watch Floyd's fights vs Judah, Hatton and Chico again and compare to the farce. He tried for the stoppage in every single one of those fights. Watch his fight vs Gatti n N'Dou. Same thing. He threw combinations n actually walked guys down.
Of course Manny threw less punches than usual, he had one arm working correctly and Floyd was 100% focused on lateral movement and perpetual motion of his feet. This isn't to let Manny off the hook, his performance was equally horrendous. Floyd was the superior fighter though, so he should've done more and closed the show like ATGs are supposed to. That being said, if you are looking for a critique of Manny to unbunch your panties, here it is: Manny didn't belong in the ring with Floyd, was clearly an inferior fighter and has been classless with his behavior/comments since losing fairly to Floyd.
Do you even watch boxing? Are you even a fan, or just an MMA guy on here trolling? To make some of the statements you make, it makes me wonder...

Pacquiao's injury is pure fiction. The fact that you're willing to give creedence to that load of shit excuse shows you aren't fit to judge this fight.
Manny was the fighter of the decade. Manny was the P4P#1 or 2 fighter in the world for years. Manny was supposed to be Floyd's kryptonite. Gatti, N'Dou, Hatton, Zab how do they compare?!? What kind of joke are you! HAHa!!! Besides, those fights happened 10 to 15 years ago.

Don't want to inject myself in this, but I don't think these are fair comparisons. Hatton and Chico kept coming at Floyd(who was much younger and had his legs), and Judah was always fairly useless in the late rounds. Pacquiao was still dangerous at all times and Floyd is old now, the only surprise to me was that he wasn't made to fight at a higher pace, nobody should be shocked that he didn't given the choice. Even in much better form he has clearly shown he's willing to cruise through fights, think about Baldomir or tha Brusseles guy, or Guerrero for that matter.

Re: Floyd should have done more.
I think floyd can't do anymore.
I wish he did do more but I suppose like Hopkins he nullified the opponents output and in a way that was a great achievement.
His hands are worse so he can't throw the combinations that he used too.
I just wanted a little taste of aggression in one of the rounds but in hindsight I suppose he never had too.

So, if I understand your logic correctly, Manny doesn't really have an injured shoulder, he's just having surgery as a cover up? Does that make ANY sense to you at all????? Seriously, that is an asinine theory.
Once again, you fall off topic and try to argue semantics. You said Floyd never fought different than he did vs. Manny (which is irrelevant to the conversation, but whatever) and I gave you multiple examples of where he fought with more aggression and closed the show. Despite any nuance or caveat you want to focus on, Floyd fought in a much different manner in those fights as well as his fights vs. Ortiz, Guerrero and JMM. He should've done more vs. Pac to earn his paycheck.

Re: Floyd should have done more.
Floyd fought differently 15 years ago when he was younger. He is 39 years old now. and was fighting the fighter of the decade, the guy that was supposed to destroy him. The guy who 80% of the public thought was going to KO him. It's his prerogative to fight a defensive fight. As the highest paid boxer ever and the highest paid athlete in the world 3 years running his recent style must be enough to satisfy fans otherwise he wouldn't be the money maker that he is.
YES it's true, Manny has no shoulder injury. He has an ego injury. He has a public image injury. He has an I've been exposed injury, but not a shoulder injury.
Pacquiao reportedly reinjured his shoulder. The initial injury was from a skiing accident from 2008? Manny's strength and conditioning coach of 5 years, hired in 2008, has gone on record as saying that Manny never had a shoulder injury. This is the man who helped Manny win titles from 130, 35, 140, 147 and 154 pounds. During this time he had fights against Oscar, Hatton, Cotto, Margarito, Mosely, JMM & Bradley. Where were the signs of an injury during any of those fights? Look at the timeline for these fights...Manny never took any time off. When did this alleged injury occur?
Surgery is a vague term. It can mean as little a a local anesthetic and a small incision and walkout 15 minutes later. So I'm sure Manny had some kind of surgery. I doubt it was invasive or had anything to do with a pre existing shoulder injury.
His "surgery" was to repair his damaged image in the Philippines and to the gullible public (that's you).
Bob Arum has a great quote that you may find shocking (since you seem so dim). "Yesterday I was lying, but today I'm telling the truth."

Re: Floyd should have done more.
Why pay sky high price for an old faded Floyd who provides no entertainment value? It is insane and the equivalent of paying these prices to Muhammad Ali after he fought Frazier the third time.
Since when did 80% think Manny would win? Stop making this stuff up Rocco.

HBO did a fan poll before the fight. The numbers were ridiculous in Manny's favour. I'm trying to find the exact stat but it was waaaayyyy off like 80%.

Also, just to help you out, Tito didn't have loaded gloves, his hands were wrapped in a manner that was legal in Vegas but illegal in New York so he had to re wrap them. Margarito had loaded gloves vs Mosely. You're welcome for the education.
FFS mikeeod..... quit trying to argue with Ruth using logic.
Ruth is well known here for getting an idea stuck somewhere between his thick skull and the half ounce of gray matter than passes for a brain..... and then beating the idea to DEATH. He once posted in 27 straight posts that Pac was a PED user. He actually posted that Floyd is TBE because his Lamborghinis are shinier than anyone else's..... and because he went back to chopping wood before the Pac fight. Oh..... that, and the fact that he owns his own promotional company. Ruth has been peddling the illegal handwrap argument for years, and is blind-deaf-and-dumb to any logic whatsoever.
He won't thank you for the education because he doesn't believe in that concept. He'd rather peddle the same regurgitated shit over and over hoping that the one-millionth time he says it..... it becomes true. Do what the rest of the forum does....... LAUGH AT HIM.

Re: Floyd should have done more.
Fact is Tito just wasn't very good without his illegal wraps.
Just like Manny isn't that good without his PEDs.

"First I would like to say that my deputy commissioner and my commissioner did a diligent job that night. The rules are clear and fair. Mr.Trinidad did not violate the rules, that's why there was no suspension. Extra tape and gauze can be applied if the trainers agree and the commission approves, grounds for that will be protection only cause of injury. Under no circumstances can there be double layers of tape, which in this case there was none. The New York State bylaws say you cannot have tape on skin so the commission made them rewrap because of that fact alone." (NY State Athletic Commission Chair Melvina Lathan)
One of several quotes from authorities on the subject.
Of course, they may as well be written in Swahili as far as you're concerned, because it doesn't fit your crybaby agenda.
How sad it is to know that a fighter you hate so much is an ATG and HOF'er.
Must stick in your craw, huh?

So his hands were taped and the wraps were applied in a way that did not comply with the rules?
The rules weren't violated because Hopkins corner member saw the violation while they were applying the wraps and the commission ruled on it and made Papa Trinidad re-wrap the hands.

Rocco, take your A.D.D. meds n try n focus. Topic is Floyd doing more vs Manny two weeks ago, not the legalities of Titos hand wraps in New York back in 2001. Try and stay on topic.

Hand wrapping rules vary from state commission to state commission... and the way Trinidad had his hands wrapped were very legal in every other state. New York has different rules..... Naazim Richardson was keen enough to catch that, and had the hand re-wrapped. Here's an interesting article on hand wrapping for you. It seems the issue with hand wrapping spreads to most boxers, who at some point or another face some sort of questioning from the opposite camp.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/13/sp...xing.html?_r=0
Here's an excerpt from that article you might find interesting as well....
"Rules vary from state to state. In California, only gauze and surgical adhesive tape are allowed. In Nevada, trainers can apply only gauze, not tape, to skin. But some keys are universal, Roach said, like spreading the gauze evenly across the fingers, or protecting the knuckles with the right amount of padding".
Richardson himself defended Trinidad from undue criticism by stating as much.... and making a very pronounced distinction between the Trinidad hand wrapping issue and, say..... what Margacheato was convicted of after the Mosley fight.
You said Trinidad always had illegal wraps.
Obviously..... you're dead wrong.
But don't let the facts stand in your way.
Again...... none of this fits your agenda. You're a hater. Actually..... you're worse than just a hater. You're a blind hater, who has no use for facts. Fortunately, I'll always be around to show you the error of your ways.
You're welcome.

Re: Floyd should have done more.
At least, there is some sanity here now.
As I was trying to emphasize immediately after the fight, Floyd should have done more because he promised us that he will knock Manny and because this is the supposed to be the Fight of the Century. He is being booed everywhere he goes because he truly does not deserve the win in a fight billed as " THE FIGHT" of the century. Now, it has become the "NON-FIGHT of the Century".
A disgrace to boxing and what it stands for. That is how it will be remembered in history and it makes me frustrated coz I promised to tell this to my children and grandchildren supposedly as one of the best fights I have seen. Now, it has become a reason for many casual fans not to watch boxing anymore.

It's nice for you to re-join the conversation @mikeeod. Here's my last post that you never addressed Pactard.
