Am I the only one who feels that Al Haymon is actually bad for the sport? Since beginning of PBC we have already seen a number of catchweight fights (Garcia vs. Peterson was a joke), fighters missing weight and dodgy decisions. I'm worried his dominance will lead to further widespread corruption within the sport because money talks.
I think Haymon is doing some good work. Hell man, if you really feel something is amiss write to Haymon and ask him about it.
My advice is to be as courteous and as accurate as possible. Your letter will not be opened by Haymon so if you want him to hear about it be courteous and accurate.
Let them know how excited everyone at Saddo Boxing is about all the new developments in boxing and then slip in your question or complaint.
Thank them for their time.

Haymon is basically setting up his own version of professional boxing. He's going to cut out the existing sanctioning bodies and have his own PBC champions.
What that means is, if he's successful, is that you have PBC and then all the other promoters working with the WBC/A/O/IBF and so on. Boxing becomes even more bi or trifurcated than before, as it's highly unlikely that Haymon manages to sign every single boxing attraction out there.
For example, Kovalev-Stevenson is now an absolute nonstarter as Kovalev is on HBO and Haymon is never going to allow Stevenson to fight on HBO.
The best thing that can happen is for Haymon to bomb and the people bankrolling him to pull the plug. If that happens we go back to guys like Arum and Fishnets occasionally doing business with each other. Maybe these guys get into the habit of doing business while threatenend with Haymon and if/when Haymon does blow up they stay in the habit. So long term Haymon may turn out to be a good thing.
I'm down with Al Haymon.
Boxing on television is never a bad thing.
Boxing on cable or PPV prevented no less than two decades of young kids from watching or knowing exciting fighters with no major promoters.
The great action fights that could have made casual fans, devout fans are endless.

When the 3 networks were moving away from boxing and there were no internet forums, those cable shows were all we had. Plenty of todays superstars came up on them, the then casual fans just had to follow. More so found a reason to follow. Casual fans were stung and hopefully stick around to learn what they are paying for after "the fight of the century" turned into dud a couple of weeks ago. Haymon is providing serious new exposure for in large part mostly established guys, but great exposure to casual fans none the less. I do think the catchweight bs is out of hand for the sport in generalQuote:

I did. You wrote "Haymon is not going to allow..." That looks like blame on Haymon. But the system said that the fight would happen. Haymon and Stevenson said they were looking forward to the purse bid. The fight would have been on the Network that paid most but Duva/Kovalev were not in agreement with that. If Duva won the purse bid they could have had the fight on HBO. Haymon wasn't stopping anything. Kovalev was advised to ask to be removed from his spot. And then in the last couple days he signed an HBO exclusive deal!!! So it seems more about Duva/Kovalev not being willing to fight off HBO than it was about Haymon not being willing to fight on HBO. Until that exclusive contract the fighters could fight wherever paid most, that is the roadblock. Not Haymon. Your point was right, as of that exclusive contract it is a non-starter. The problem is where you placed blame. Stevenson shouldn't have to take less to cater to Kovalev. If he does good for him. I thought Haymon/Stevenson were the problem. I like Kovalev(except the racism, the monkey thing could have been a mistake but that interview from about 6 months ago there is no denying how the man feels) I would root for Kovalev. But it is clear by actual actions who stopped this fight right now. Maybe it happens, if Haymon and Stevenson are willing to bend over backwards to make it. But before Duva/Kovalev changed things it was straight forward and simple.
Don't know if he is good or bad for boxing. My guess is that boxing will ultimately benefit. However, many boxer destined for greatness may get their path impeded.Quote:

If Haymon's shows get ratings and he starts getting networks offering to buy his shows instead of him buying airtime then he'll be putting a lot of shows on free TV.Quote:

There is no silver bullet to making fans and fighters all happy.
But killing the ABC org belts is a good start.

Can't see it happening though. I can see boxing getting more balkanised and purses going up for a while if Haymon and this rapper chappie get into competition but I don't think Haymon will dominate boxing to the extent that UFC dominate MMA.
He's got a ton of money backing him, potentially hundreds of millions of dollars, but his backers can pull the plug on that cash at any time. If he can't show big and growing ratings/public interest in what he's doing then eventually the gentlemen backing him will pull the plug.

Hold up. Stevenson ran from the Kovalev to sign with Haymon, who then steered him away from Kovalev and Pascal. It is true that Kovalev backed out of the purse bid because his team was afraid PBC would outbid HBO and then they would be in a situation where they would have to breach a contract to make the fight happen. But, the whole Stevenson-Kovalev snafu didn't start yesterday. Stevenson signed with Haymon who wouldn't let him face Kovalev in the first round.Quote:

PBC on ESPN to Air 12 Two-hour Live Shows Annually on ESPN and ABC
ESPN will televise Premier Boxing Champions, a series created for television by Haymon Boxing, featuring top-level fights between many of boxing’s biggest names. The multi-year agreement was announced today. The first of 12 two-hour annual live Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN (PBC on ESPN) telecasts is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
ESPN telecasts will air live in primetime. ABC broadcasts will air on Saturday afternoon, with further details to be announced at a later date. ESPN Deportes, ESPN’s Spanish-language network, will also televise all PBC on ESPN fights as part of its Noche de Combates series.
Live coverage will also be available through WatchESPN on computers, smartphones, tablets, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One via an affiliated video provider. The agreement also includes worldwide rights via ESPN International.
Card details of the first PBC on ESPN telecast and subsequent shows will be announced at a later date. ESPN’s long-standing Friday Night Fights will celebrate its last show Friday, May 22 with the finals of the Boxcino 2015 tournament.

Haymon seems to have a microwave vision and has pulled a coup with buying independent voices. FNF and ESPN cards before it have done more for the sport and young careers than any overpriced PPV or "premiere network" stuffed with mere showcases have ever done. It was the point of beginning, growth and for many the comeback that you need in the big picture and miss with already established names. You have to have variety, journeymen in a hidden gem of a stand by 6 round scrap and they can't all be superstars. I think Haymon may have a short sighted view of the sport and fans lose here as will some very decent fighters without weekly exposure. Bad for the sport!
