Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Lennox Lewis could box and slug, and it would be a 7 round fight tops, as Lennox clubs Ali into submission with thunderous rights and uppercuts.
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
I agree the tiny clay loses to the behemoth lewis
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Lennox Lewis would whip his ass. He was a good ol Canadian boy, Lennox.
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Lennox Claudius Lewis was born in West Ham London England which makes him not only a British subject but he is also a COCKNEY to boot
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Clay didn't have the power to trouble Lewis , so would be overwhelmed.
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Lennox Lewis
Lennox would use a 'slow-and-steady' pace to win a methodical 15-Round Decision over
the fast-moving Cassius Clay.
After getting tagged in Round 4 by a jarring 'left-right', Clay gets on his bicycle and becomes
the 'runner'.
By Round 10, Lennox would be 'bored' in chasing the 'galloping' Clay, and throws his hands
up in disgust while yelling at Cassius > "C'mon, let's fight. This is no track meet."
Scorecard .........{ 9-3-3 } in Rounds ......... Lennox Lewis.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"That's the exact same score I saw with my 'piercing blue eyes'. Cassius didn't come within an eye-lash of winning."

I would have enjoyed seeing that.
Much like seeing Ann-Margaret at Phu Bai, Vietnam in 1967.
Cassius Clay would have 'never' seen Ann in Vietnam. What a 'shame'.

It's a Canadian trait, luckily we got our hands on Lennox early enough where it could be instilled in him. Otherwise Lennox would have been another Audley Harrison (likely without the gold medal, though), or maybe another David Haye complaining about his toe hurting after a loss. ;D
All England gave him was a silly accent. He learned to fight in Canada, and got his genetics from Jamaica.

I think several of the elite heavyweights of recent times would have beaten Ali.
Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe and a few others.

Thank You, Canada for doing the ground work. Thankfully, the GB took him back to his rightful home and spared him being turned into Canada's other HW successes of that period - Willie DeWitt and Tom Glesby. ;D

I think in Lennox's case he is being a gentleman about it , but I will tell you this Larry Holmes thinks he could have beaten any version of clay prime for prime.

Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Dark Al Lord,
I'd agree with the above statement. Larry Holmes 'never' loses to Cassius Clay.
And he 'stops' Muhammad Ali by TKO 10. In most likely, a one-sided ass whipping.

@ryanman @WelshDevilRob Saint Mary is a parish located in the northeast section of Jamaica. With a population of 115,000 it is one of Jamaica's smallest parishes, located in the county of Middlesex. Its chief town and capital is Port Maria, located on the coast. It is also the birthplace of established dancehall reggae artists, such as Capleton, Lady Saw, Ninja Man, Sizzla and Tanya Stephens. Other notable residents of St. Mary parish include bestselling author Colin Simpson, who is the great-great grandson of noted slavery abolitionist James Phillippo, boxer Trevor Berbick, and acclaimed music producer Chris Blackwell who is credited with "discovering" Bob Marley.

Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Now this fight I can agree with, Lennox had height, power, he was very athletic in the ring, he could take a good shot, he was adept at tying up and sapping the strength and will of his opponents. I don't see Ali getting stopped early, but perhaps championship rounds....Lennox might give away some of the early rounds because he WAS slow to start at times, but once the right cross found it's mark it wouldn't have been long.
If you had a good/great jab, then you nullified Ali's movement and handspeed.

Yeah all that false modesty shit has to be taken for what it is. Nobody is going to come out and say they would beat Ali because people will hate you for slagging a guy as beloved as Ali.
A 6'5'', 250lb guy with the skill, power, speed and boxing IQ of Lennox is going to be hell for anyone who ever boxed.
Do I think a 200lb Cassius Clay whips Lennox? Not likely IMO.
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Lennox time travels to 1970 and gets knocked out by Foreman.
-
Re: Lennox Lewis vs Muhammad Ali
Foreman wouldn't have been able to touch him and would have got knocked out early, especially in 1970 when he was green as grass and hadn't fought anyone.

I understand the sentiment of course. Let's face facts, heavyweight boxers for whatever reasons idolize Muhammad Ali. I am certain if you had asked Rocky Marciano about whether or not he would have beaten Joe Louis before they actually fought he would have said similar words to Lewis and Tyson....but the truth is Rocky busted up Joe, sure it was an older Joe Louis, but it was still Joe Louis and Rocky still knocked him out and I'd venture to guess that Rocky was actively trying not to hurt Joe as well.
I still think Tyson can't handle Ali's style so I doubt he would beat Ali. It would be a furious first round and Ali would have to be on his bike, but he'd tag Mike a few times in that first round and start to chip away at his confidence...I have absolutely no doubt about it.
Lennox Lewis on the other hand would start slower, Ali would win a few rounds, and then he'd stick in front of Lennox too long and BOOM goes the dynamite. Once Ali was getting found by the 1-2 it would all be a matter of time.
I think jabbers, guys with a more traditional or upright style would do damage to Ali. I also think the more workman like Evander Holyfield would have been kryptonite for Muhammad because he could box and move but had that same iron will that Joe Frazier had. Riddick Bowe on the other hand would get ate up by Ali because his hands weren't fast enough and he allowed fighters to get on the inside all the time.
I think Larry Holmes is probably right that he beats any version of Ali.
I think Joe Louis is in a 50-50 match with Ali because he was better than Tyson (anyone that thinks otherwise needs to have their head examined), and his ability to stalk down opponents and land pinpoint accurate punches was uncanny. Joe Louis never overreached, he never cut his power by smothering himself against an opponent against the ropes, he was an absolute MASTER of timing and spacing.

no I haven't been there Ryan. I had a few friends in NJ who came from there though, one guy had a nice little snack shop, sold Jamaican beef, chicken and veg patties as well as some nice jerk pork, ackee & saltfish, sorrel drinks, Front End Lifter, Irish Sea Moss, Zion Roots Drink, maubi, etc...

Cassius Clay
Would 'most likely' have the legs to stay on the perimeter and fight from 'way' outside
against Lennox.
Cassius isn't winning the bout, but he would survive.
