Ali ko round 2. Ref stopping the fight.
Ali ko round 2. Ref stopping the fight.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I think several of the elite heavyweights of recent times would have beaten Ali.
Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe and a few others.
Ask Lennox Lewis who his idol is & he will tell you Muhammad Ali
Ask Lennox if he thinks he could have beaten Ali. He'll laugh & say No Way
Lennox idolizes him
I understand the sentiment of course. Let's face facts, heavyweight boxers for whatever reasons idolize Muhammad Ali. I am certain if you had asked Rocky Marciano about whether or not he would have beaten Joe Louis before they actually fought he would have said similar words to Lewis and Tyson....but the truth is Rocky busted up Joe, sure it was an older Joe Louis, but it was still Joe Louis and Rocky still knocked him out and I'd venture to guess that Rocky was actively trying not to hurt Joe as well.
I still think Tyson can't handle Ali's style so I doubt he would beat Ali. It would be a furious first round and Ali would have to be on his bike, but he'd tag Mike a few times in that first round and start to chip away at his confidence...I have absolutely no doubt about it.
Lennox Lewis on the other hand would start slower, Ali would win a few rounds, and then he'd stick in front of Lennox too long and BOOM goes the dynamite. Once Ali was getting found by the 1-2 it would all be a matter of time.
I think jabbers, guys with a more traditional or upright style would do damage to Ali. I also think the more workman like Evander Holyfield would have been kryptonite for Muhammad because he could box and move but had that same iron will that Joe Frazier had. Riddick Bowe on the other hand would get ate up by Ali because his hands weren't fast enough and he allowed fighters to get on the inside all the time.
I think Larry Holmes is probably right that he beats any version of Ali.
I think Joe Louis is in a 50-50 match with Ali because he was better than Tyson (anyone that thinks otherwise needs to have their head examined), and his ability to stalk down opponents and land pinpoint accurate punches was uncanny. Joe Louis never overreached, he never cut his power by smothering himself against an opponent against the ropes, he was an absolute MASTER of timing and spacing.
