Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Adonis Stevenson To Face Tommy Karpency on Sept. 11 - Boxing News
Absolute joke of a fight. People might criticize Kovalev's last opponent but that was a forced mandatory, Stevenson seems to be just taking nice, easy voluntary fights. Karpency poses absolutely no threat at all.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
I think that they did take that as they had no interesting options on the table at the moment so they decided to take something in order to keep Stevenson active and perhaps to tune him up for something better somewhere in 2016.

Joke fight, surely they could have a least rematched Fonfara failing anything else?

Ah ok, didn't hear about that and nothing was on boxrec for Fonfara when I checked. That's a decent fight, I suppose the winner of it will get Adonis in 2016:rolleyes:

Yeah, yeah, and yeah. What your saying is until something surefire easy comes along.
I hate to say this about any fighter but Stevenson is looking more and more like a coward. He's going to hang on to that belt as long as he possibly can and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks.
Hopefully he runs into a Junieski Gonzalez and gets his ass kicked. I've really lost patience with the guy.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Never heard of him..... never seen him.
He must, however, have a thing for Rayco Saunders (23-26-2), as I see he's fought the guy three times.
Gotta wonder where Adonis' camp dredged up... er... found this opponent.

Seriously, they have to aim higher. Beterbiev and Kovalev blazing war paths..new all fire Gonzalez making a name, Pascal fighting his balls off and heart out simultaneously and Ward walking into his house like he was banging his wife and Stevenson is fighting club fighters and spr middleweights. Tommy will be scrappy but this one in the words of Kovalev is a 'pizz'a chit'.

He did beat Chad Dawson a while back, which had a lot more to do with Dawson being shit and even still I think I had it about even. Would only make this fight passable if Dawson had done anything after Stevenson iced him, or shown a shred of his former ability that night.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
It would be interesting comparing Kovalev and Stevenson , if Stevenson fought Cleverly.
That at least will be interesting.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
People used to criticise Haymon for getting HBO and Showtime to pay out for appearance fights/easy defences for his guys on their networks. When he started the PBC people assumed that now he'd paid so much for airtime and his new business was on the line then he'd need to make competitive fights to get big ratings and grow his business.
This isn't exactly a competitive fight. Haymon must be supremely confident that he can keep getting increased ratings even while putting fights like this one on. I'm not so sure.

Chad Dawson. Now there's a fighter that has been going down in flames ever since that pitiful performance against Andre Ward. Yeah... Karpency got the decision against Dawson, but like you pretty well said... so what.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Stevensons such a bitch. Hed much prefer to get a couple of women in there so he can beat away at him. Its such a joke that scum like him get paid huge sums of money to fight in complete mismatches.

Michel wanted him to fight Kovalev, finally but they decided to go for Kovalev-Pascal instead, which left Stevenson without super good options at the time. Thus said, I am not saying that to defend Stevenson; After his past emerge, I have a bit of difficulty to rally behind him but I truly believe that it'S what happend. And now that he's with Haymon, god knows what can get between him and a solid fight.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Haymon is putting on a lot of boxing but they are poor matches. Quantity over quality.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Stevenson going on about "bringing a ko". Hope so chickenshat..that's what Tommy is here for ;D
More interested in Errol Spence jr on undercard fighting Chris Van heerden. Anyone familiar with Van Heerden?
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Van Heerden not a small guy. Wonder how those ribs will hold up though. Really like Spence composure. A lot to like early in career
-
Stevenson v Karpency/Spence Jr v Van Heerdon
I think Spence Jr will be a major star. Nice little fight so far. Chris is no slouch. Good first round. Two southpaws is always interesting.

I'm sold and hardly ever buy the build and 'hype' so early. Difference is..this kid looks the total package. Just a bit straight up at times that round but fun to watch!
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Spence took a stiff right hook end of round. Not a lot of pop, but he does get caught with more than a few standing in front like that.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Big brass here by Van Heerden
-
Van Heerden is a punching bag, and like all punching bags, very tough.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
That round should be rated R! Spence sits down on his shots like very few today, complete demolition
-
Spence has arrived. He's not lightning fast, but he's big, powerful and sound. It's clear to see why Thurman isn't looking to fight him. Let Spence earn it, fine, he's only getting better. Just obliterated the IBFs number 7 rated fighter. Then again the IBFs ratings are absolute garbage. Hell, Spence was rated lower that the guy he just dominated haha
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Vivian Harris should not be fighting anymore.

Spence is very good and Van Heerden is very tough. Very good is better than very tough, tonight for sure!
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
They can stop this. Next promoter/manager...Haymon...who put Harris in the ring should lose license
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Never thought I'd see Lennox Lewis as a baldy, sounds sharp.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
That was a pretty good round for Karpency. He landed pretty good. Stevenson not quite as comfortable against another lefty.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Poor Tommy did the 1 A.M Fred Sanford there, brutal. Stevenson runs around like he just beat a legend
-
Vivian Harris is finished! Fact as Fenster would say.
-
Stevenson wins! No surprises tonight.
-
They may as well have pulled a guy off the street
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Kovalev needs to knock Stevenson out so bad.
-
Karpency was trying to take the fight to Stevenson until Stevenson landed the lefthand that buckled Karpency's knees, from that point on Karpency was backing up and doomed to a short night.
-
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency on September 11th
Stevenson isn't going to beat Kovalev, but we shouldn't accuse him of avoiding him just yet. Stevenson has fought some "live" fighters. Karpency was just lucky to even get this fight. He did land one shot in the first that got me thinking hey maybe Karpency has gotten better than when I used to see him on ESPN...nope he's still crap.

Yeh he had the right idea and even landed a few decent shots, but Stevenson had that eraser. I was glad Stevenson finally sacked up and put Kovalev name in his mouth but doesn't mean a thing until you sign. I still see Adonis, or 'Pizza Chit' as Kovalev calls him, very stiff and rigid, I think Kovalev will knock him out. Watch his legs and the lurches he leaves himself in.

You are right, it was the only chance Karpency had. Stevenson does look a little stiff and out of position at times, and like you, I really want to see Kovalev in the ring with him.
With a good undercard that would be a PPV I'd be happy to pay for!
