Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
It sucks that they would do this to us boxing fans. I'm always interested in seeing two up and coming undefeated fighters go at it. But, if this is Hopkins' last fight (he claims it is) then my loyalties lie there. From the ringwalk to the post fight interview, I must ride with X.
Not for nothing, the sport is really gonna miss him when he's gone.

Why not just download them both the next day. You get to see both fights and save youself $59

Some people dont steal things / and DLing and watching on the computer, (probably having heard the result whether u wanted to or not somewhere) , is about 10% as much satisfaction as you get from watching it live not knowing what is gonna happen i think.

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
Cuz I'm a "Have to see the fight live" kind of guy.

Well not to split hairs but personally if you hand over $59 to watch Hopkins and Tarver I would say that HBO are stealing from you ;D
And I'm from the UK anyways so I can't get access to any of these fights regardless so I have to download if I want to watch them at all.

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
I really wanna watch that Cotto - Paulie fight card. Duddy's on it too. I'm not gonna lie, I kinda wanna see Tarver - Hopkins though. If both fighters come to actually fight, that would be a good fight. And since Tarver bet 250K that he would knock out Bernard Hopkins by 5, he's gotta fight. But I don't wanna chance blowing money on something that could turn out to be a 12 round slow dance.

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
I'm sorry, I just don't see Hopkins and Tarver possibly putting on $50 worth of fight. Despite having bought Hopkins-Taylor 1, I convinced myself the second one would be different and worth the money, which, needless to say, it wasn't. I like B-Hop, respect him, but at this point in his career he just doesn't make a fight very fun to watch. And I don't think Tarver will either.

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
where do you download them the next day

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
I have no interest in seeing Hopkins-Tarver, Hopkins should retire. If he wins, great, I'm a fan but I can't see that being a good fight.
I'm interested in the Cotto-Malignaggi fight, and If I had to chose one I'd choose the Cotto PPV. Still, why is that a PPV fight? Not really PPV level IMO, the undercard better be good.

It's not up on HBO's site, and if they're on the same night, there's no way HBO's going to cut into its Tarver-Hopkins PPV profits by showing another fight for free on its normal channel. I don't know where that Cotto fight is showing.
-
Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
The Cotto fight is just gonna be on regular PPV. Like Margarito's last fight was. Either HBO or Showtime took the fight because they didn't offer enough money. Actually, I think HBO offered the right amount but wanted to move the fight to Friday, the day before Tarver:Hopkins.

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
I just read the undercard for Cotto Malignaggi. I'm getting that one.
-
Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
I'd rather watch Cotto-Paulie, but I don't think I'll spend money on either, when both fights will be replayed on HBO the following week. I'm the live fight kind of guy also, but not for these fights at 50+ dollars.

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
got this from fightnews
Cotto-Malignaggi undercard!
Monday, March 27 2006
June 10 is on fire -- the super-steamed Miguel Cotto vs. Paulie Malignaggi showdown at Madison Square Garden will include the pro debut of Notre Dame football player Tommy Zbikowski and a middleweight title defense for Irish sensation John Duddy, announced Bob Arum of Top Rank today. Cotto, Malignaggi, Duddy and Tommy Z will be at a Top Rank press conference at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Wednesday. The Cotto vs. Malignaggi card on June 10 will include:
--Kevin Kelley, the Flushing Flash, 58-6-2, 39 KOs.
--Irish John Duddy, 16-0-0, 14 KOs. The sensational, hard-punching middleweight will make the first defense of his WBC/Continental Americas title.
--Notre Dame defensive back Tommy Zbikowski of Arlington Heights, Ill. This will be the pro debut for Tommy Z, a heavyweight. He is going into his senior year for the Fightin' Irish football team. When he played at Buffalo Grove, Ill. High School, Tommy was a quarterback and was named USA Today first-team All-America and was selected the Chicago Player of the Year.
--The Son of the Legend, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., 24-0-1, 18 KOs, Culiacan, Mexico.
--Hot featherweight prospect Juan Manuel Lopez, 10-0, 9 KOs, of Caguas, Puerto Rico.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arum said he plans to have six bouts on the Top Rank Pay Per View telecast. "It's an exciting card from top to bottom," Arum said. "We all know what Paulie has been saying about Miguel Cotto so I'm anxious to see how that plays out when the two get into the ring. Everyone wants to see Tommy Zbikowski of Notre Dame on June 10. Bruce Trampler (TR matchmaker) told me Tommy had a lot of amateur fights. This will be Tommy's first professional fight." Tickets are $300, $200, $100 and $50 and are now on sale at Madison Square Garden.

I thought he promised his mom he wouldn't turn pro? Wow...that'll be fun to watch. I won't watch either though.
Wait...are both these PPV's being offered by HBO?

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
I have no idea. I think the Hopkins Tarver will be a Showtime one. or maybe an independent station one(like the Rahman Barret PPV)

But Hopkins and Tarver are both HBO fighters. I don't know but if both were HBO then I would be furious.
According to fightnews Tarver-Hopkins is HBO PPV and it just has Cotto - Malignaggi listed as PPV. It also says Wright - Taylor is regular HBO.
-
Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
Of course HBO would want the very last fight of Bernard Hopkins' career. I wouldn't get Tarver Hopkins since it will be replayed one week later. Seems the Cotto Malignaggi one is a one showing thing.
-
Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
Cotto is an HBO fighter also. They will replay it. If not, they aren't being very loyal.

Tarver-Hopkins is on HBO PPV. the Cotto fight, as another poster said, is just independently on PPV (not HBO or Showtime)

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
Neither is exactly what I would call a pay per view worthy fight. Its just a lot of hype being drummed up by the promotors and companies like HBO to rip people off. 90% of all hbo fights are ppv now. Thats ridiculous. Niether one of these is something I couldnt wait to see.
Tarvers a one hit wonder waiting be disposed of. Hopkins is fighting his last fight and then riding off into the sunset. Can the aging former champ go up in weight to beat the one hit wonder before hanging them up for good? Or will tarver win and run his mouth again like he accomplished the impossible by beating a post prime aging champ who came up in weight to fight him to become a 2 hit wonder? What comes of this fight? Noone really cares what happens next. Hopkins has already stated his intentions to retire... and noone cares about tarvers intentions.
As for cotto- malignaggi. Theyre both young and we're waiting to see their greatness. But can either really make huge waves with a win over the other? Cottos seems to be developing with each fight, aside from shakey moments against 1 or 2 fighters. Malignaggi has his first fight in the spotlight is almost assured to appeal to a larger market of people that hate loudmouth, shoe shining braggards... Does he have freakish strength? unheard of speed? a gold medal? any kind of evidence at all that he's more than another sh*ttalker who hasnt been exposed yet? The only gimmick about malignaggi is the size of his mouth. So can cotto expose the little yappy kid from brooklyn, or can paulie be the guy that beats a Cotto whos not quite polished and at his peak yet by running and gunning?
To me, none of these questions is really worth paying the money for the answers. I could see if either of these fights were explosive fights and they wanted to charge for the rematches. But, I'm not willing to pay the money to see Cotto to fight against someone without a name and a huge rep at 140. .... Nor will I paY to see malignaggi dance and then talk about himself endlessly while styling his cool fonzie hairdoo and ask where he is on the LB 4 LB list after one fight.
While i salute Hopkins and celebrate his career as many boxing fans... I shouldnt have to pay to see an aging Hopkins risk his health to beat a bigger 1 hit wonder before he walks away from the game, to do it. Lastly, am I the only one that has a problem paying to listen to Tarver proclaim himself the "legend killer" while ignoring his weight advantage or the fact that much of his success came from being a opportunist who came by at the right time?

Re: Will you watch Tarver-Hopkins, or the Cotto PPV?
Here's my problem...being the chronic that I am...I will be watching both PPV's.
Reason being...
#1: As much as I hate the match up...Hopkins is my favorite of all time...so I aint gonna miss him on his last outting...even though I hate the fwockin match up & the weight. I am curious to see if Bernard can put a smack on Tarver.
#2: Cotto is also one of my favorites...so I aint missing that either...plus I am fairly intriqued by the match up. I am curious to see if Paulie actually has the ability to compete with Cotto. As much as I hate Paulie for his mouth...I like him for his speed & skills. Should be a good un!
#3: It is my drunken obligation to do the DRBR for those less fortunate than those that are stupid enough to actually shell out close to $100 for two home fights. ;D :drunks:
