Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
When Marciano put them gloves on, he went out at the bell and gave his heart and soul, EVERY SECOND OF EVERY ROUND. Every punch he tried to knock you out. He never took any time "OFF" during a round, he never "BURNT THE CLOCK" during any round.
What a true warrior. 49-0. TBE.

Re: Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
Marciano fought bums for over half his career.
His record against real opposition is 18-0.

18-0 with about 15 KOs............. not too shabby, eh?

Rocky reminds me of a baseball player with a bomb of a susy q in his hands.

The question is whether he fought bums because a) that's all that was available at the time, or whether b) he fought bums while running from better fighters. I'd guess the answer is "a", so it's academic, really. He fought what was available. He may not have been a smooth boxer, but he was fierce and constantly pressed the action, making him a huge crowd favorite.

This pathetic list is only an example of the shit competition Marciano fought.
These were fights 28-35 in his "legendary" career.
His first 24 fights were equally terrible.
Surely 49-0-0 ain't that hard if all you face is garbage...
Re: Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
Rocky Marciano
Like an Old Northeast Football Team with a 'bruiser' Fullback.
Every play 4-Yards, and a bowl-of-dust.
He just kept coming forward, daring you to stop him.
And, you couldn't.

He fought what was there, Mister Dingleberry. Plus he did it in half the time Floyd did. Think about it, the man was a warhorse, a pitbull, a fighting machine, a dynamo, and probably didn't think about complaining.
WOW!!! He was so great he beat a bunch of shit filled tomato cans in half the time huh?
Congratulations to him and you! He's the perfect hero for all you dim witted losers!

Good to see you finally telling some truth about Mayweather at the end of your post.
I have no issue with Marciano's career. He fought some bums and he fought some very good fighters. Unlike Mayweather he couldn't run up and down the weights avoiding fighters, he just fought who he could in the division available to him a little bit like Wlad does today.
Marciano was a limited HW in that he wasn't very big or tall or technical, but he always found a way and you have to respect that. I respect Mayweather in a similar way, but think he cherry picked the last decade of his career and is plain boring and ugly to watch.
Re: Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
Rocky 49 wins not defeats, hell of a record tough SOB's back then they fought once or twice a month
not one or twice a year, like this bunch now a human pit bull old Rocky.:)
Re: Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
The weird thing with Marciano is that his toughest competition was not only old, but also small. For some reason all of the big HWs had taken a break for a while. Not that size is everything but he was pretty small and fortunate he didn't fight a decade later against guys 20-30 pounds bigger than him.
Re: Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
How many atg's Floyd beat?
When did he fight them?
What were the circumstances?
How many of Floyds opponents would make it through to the top in pasts eras?
Statistics are there to serve other statistics. Attempting to ridicule one ATG to make the case for another is a slippery slope.
Re: Rocky Marciano: a Fighter who left his SOUL in the ring
Not sure why Floyd is being brought into this thread...
His haters are just obsessed with him and can't stop mentioning him.

You know..... Miles talks a lot of shit.
But this is an excellent post. ;D
Seriously though....
No hate... no bias... no lack of objectivity.
He gives both Marciano and Mayweather their props, but mentions their limitations also.
I guess that's what you get when you're not emotionally vested (love or hate) with a fighter.
You go.... @Gandalf !! ;D

Marciano fought mostly bums.
Did he ever duck anybody who was available? (Serious question)
That's what tells the story for me.
You see... if they're mostly bums, as you put it, it takes away from the necessary skill level to have remained undefeated throughout his career. But it doesn't take away from his greatness, because you have to look at him in the context of his era. Let's say he was lucky enough not to have crossed paths with someone of greater skill... or heart... or power... etc.

It takes away from his greatness because he fought very little great opposition!!
He was around in a era where there were only bums... So he can only be regarded as Undefeated King of the Bums.
