Marquez Says There Have Been Talks For Miguel Cotto Bout - Boxing News
Cotto UD
JMM should be retired by now or winding down his career doing a seniors tour like Julio Ceaser Chavez did not fighting Cotto at catch weight.
Great. The pretend ex middleweight champion fighting a used up welterweight...at catch weight. Boxing is becoming a freak show.
If marquez holds up he'll win if it goes the distance. He will counter and maybe start to pressure cotto in later rounds after they have a counter duo the first 5/6. As much as a cotto fan i am. I dont think he's the same anymore and will break down.
Marquez is spent, he is 42 and was never even close to a natural welterweight. Also wouldn't have fought in over 2 years if he did come back. I think Cotto would be way to strong now assuming he makes 150 ok, could have been a hell of a fight years ago.
Everyone ducking GGG so bad it makes him seem like a God.
Where are the throwback fearless fighters?!
Nigel benn would fight GGG in a heartbeat.
Good comparison, @Master
Except that I think it's a better, more competitive version. Both JMM and Khan are campaigning at welter. Difference is Cotto is legitimately a LMW, while Canelo is a full-blown MW. A Cotto on fight night will weigh around 154 to 156, guaranteed. Canelo meanwhile, will come into the ring at around 175. Assuming Khan and JMM would be around the same size, there's no comparison in the weight differences. Also, a bulked-up JMM could make his punches felt on Cotto more than a dancing Khan would on Canelo.
Its just a useless fight. I mean who cares??? Two massive 'names' off of defeats and huge inactivity doing a mutual money rebound at a ridiculous catchweight..on ppv?! Marquez has a single win above 144. It was against a battle thrashed Alvarado who was moving up to in weight. Does anyone think the result will be a true statement as to what they can do next at like weight? More like one grows old, or already has, right before our eyes and calls it a career that night.
All four fighters with respect can do a lot or make much more actual 'competitive' fights at weights already. Yes, fighters do fight for money but this shit is becoming the scrooge mcduck golden round table where they are all in on the joke. Sorry to be so negative bud it just blah ;D
I'm just trying to figure which thought p*sses me off more....
Canelo clubber langing Khan into a corner and teeing off.

Or marquez racking up one of his 5 punch combos around the cotto muffs only to have cotto stare at him blankly and go to the body.
Ruslan Provodnikov at welter being mentioned ???
Why can't Cotto shoot his last bolt at jr middleweight ffs?
In fairness, who is at junior middle that wouldn't be a nightmare for Cotto? If you look at the top 10 rankings literally all of them could well beat him. I agree Provodnikov is a bit of a cherry pick, but then again Cotto doesn't have a title or anything, and it could still turn out to be a hell of a fight if he's not totally up for it.
For real?
Other than Trout, who already beat him, or Lara, who is a stylistic matchup nightmare for many fighters, I don't see too many names in there that would trouble Cotto very much. He's closing out his career, so I don't see him fighting anyone who doesn't have a big name attached to him. It's a luxury afforded to every great fighter approaching retirement, so why should Cotto be any different?
I was thinking Charlo, Demetrius Andrade. Not knocking Cotto at all, half of it is those wouldn't even be big scalps for him, I'm all for him taking on an easier fight or two to go out on. If he makes Provodnikov come up in weight much though, it's a bit pointless imo, although it would still be a fun fight.
I agree. Good options. I think the only reason provo is getting called up is because Canelo destroyed any credibility left in beating kirkland with that massacre. Same type of fight at middle. Only provo coming up, has been through a few wars and used to train at the wild card (joel diaz won't change much--probably nil this soon) so they have the blue print on him already. All that becomes a rather disappointing reason to give him 16 mil (isnt that cottos going rate with roc nation for a fight) for beating provo at middle.
That's kinda what I was thinking. It'll be trumped up into some absurd CW for an already smaller guy and non welterweight coming off some serious wars and Provo being seen and already a bit known is the only selling point I see. I just think a guy who cannot compete at the weight where he just held a title and won't even attempt decent comp a division below should be done with the sport. I'd say Trout as he's been hurt badly a couple fights ago and Cotto thinking revenge factor while facing legit top ten 154 comp. Buy he is with Emperor Haymon, so highly unlikely. Cotto is ranked 154, he needs to fight there otherwise its again turned into divas just shaking the money tree while actually achieving little. That's said nothing is confirmed, we'll have to see.
Agreed, for me Cotto has paid his dues and can be a diva, great career and been a really fun fighter to watch for as long as I've been into boxing. I've picked wrongly against him a whole bunch of times, but I give myself credit for calling that Martinez was a sitting duck, seem to remember debating you on that point come to think :p
Just saying fighting Provo at anything above welter(which it would be) is a bit lame and has a sideshow feel. Why not fight Brandon Rios at 155:rolleyes: Not much of a match up unless there is a big change in form from both guys, Cotto will win it however he wants.
