European Championship 2016
The 2016 UEFA European Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2016 or simply Euro 2016, will be the 15th edition of the tournament. It is scheduled to be held in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016.
Spain are two-time defending champions.
For the first time, the European Championship final tournament will be contested by 24 teams, having been expanded from the 16-team format used since 1996.
France was chosen as the host nation. The matches will be played in ten stadia in ten cities: Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Étienne, and Toulouse. It will be the third time that France hosts the tournament, after the inaugural tournament in 1960 and the 1984 finals. The French team have won the European Championship twice: in 1984 and 2000.

Re: European Championship 2016
I think france will win it, they have a very good team and to be honest the french are just crazy in general, I think all the trouble that has happened in paris and now belgium will activate their good kind of mad french circuits and they will pull it off.

Re: European Championship 2016
You are welcome. I did not want you to miss it with your busy schedule trainspotting.
I started the thread after the brilliant victory against Germany. Undefeated in the group stages and beating the world champions shows that we can go far this time. More than any other time.
We are going to find a way. Find a way to get a way to get right.

I prefer "3 Lions". Lyrics included "30 years of hurt" . That could be re-released now as "50 years of hurt!!" 😂😂😂😂
It's not even April and the false hope has started. Smh.

Obviously I'd love us to win, it's a big ask, but do-able. Better chance than England though. I'll be going over for at least one of the games.
But if you put a gun to my head, I would say France followed by Germany.
Don't be fooled by the other night. If there was a "friendly World Cup", England would win it every time.

We are rubbish and have no chance. :(

unless they play the netherlands in the final :S
Amazing that the dutch didn't make it to euro 2016.
-
Fuck me after last night I think I'd better revisit my hopes for Italy. Absolutely Shocking performance. They don't usually do well in friendlies, but last night was terrible.
-
Re: European Championship 2016
Over the years all expectation has been drilled out of me.
We are capable of getting to the semis after which anything can happen but we're capable of going out at the group stages just the same - whatever happens I bet we need a win n our final group game. We always do
-
Re: European Championship 2016
Actually just checked the format of the competition - the four best third place teams go through even.
Even we'll get through that group !

4-1 against German, I would be embarrassed.

Yep, it was awful. But they'll be better at the tournament . At least half of that side won't start in France. Just to put it in perspective, that is the first time Germany have beaten us in 21 years, and they have NEVER Beaten us in a competitive game.

I would have belgium ahead of england, I think england would struggle badly against them if they come up against em in the knockout stages.. Belgium are a bit like the dutch, who england have been having trouble beating for the last few years, they have the physical strength and a lot of skill, ranked number 1 in the world too(I don't agree with that though).. apart from that i think it's a pretty good ranking.

Re: European Championship 2016
come to think of it, I think england might be like germany of 2002, back then the germans were coming off a bad tournament 2 years earlier when they left in the group stages, they replaced a few of the older guys, matthaus, hassler, babbel and so on, whether through retirement or just no longer having it, frings, ballack and klose got their chances and became very good players... In 2002 germany had leverkusen coming up as a surprise team with a couple of the germans 2002 world cup team coming from them(ballack who scored 3, neuville scored the winner against paraguay and ramelow in defence), england have leiceister leading the league as a big surprise and a few of their players seem to be making an impact internationally...... I think england are going to the final :S

IT STARTS!
It's uncanny, Leicester is the 16th largest city in England. Leverkusen is the 16th largest city in Germany. And it's 2016!
Oliver Neuville wore Adidas boots, Vardy wears Adidas boots.
And spookily when you spell "Ramelow is a champion" backwards and upside down on a 42 font in wingdings format, it reads "England will win the Euros!!" 😂😂😂⚽ï¸

Re: European Championship 2016
The 2000 France squad was pretty loaded.
It should be a pretty intense competition this summer, every time I think "Well Belgium shoul dbe the team to beat" I remember that Germany is still extremely good, Spain is still good although the window is closing on their Golden Era as guys like: Ramos, Busquets, Iniesta, and Cesc age out. France has major talent, Portugal still have Ronaldo doing great things, England has talent but they have Woy running the show so I doubt things go well for them although I certainly hope they do well and the Republic of Ireland do well.

And don't forget the "Welsh Pirlo" Joe Allen haha
My people are from England, Ireland, Scotland, and France and not Wales.....so that explains my hoping for certain teams to do well.

Re: European Championship 2016
So, Marcus Rashford scores within three minutes on his debut. Surely he's got himself a spot on the ferry?
Also, Ryan Bertrand. I don't understand how he keeps finding himself in England squads.

Rashford looks like a very strong player, he's in great form at the moment.
Bertrand is a difficult one to assess, he's certainly not at Leighton Baines' level IMO but he's a solid player, never going to be mistaken as the best on the pitch, but who else could you put there? Ashley Cole is a bit old, Danny Rose has his moments, Clyne can play on the left but is better on the right, Gibbs is alright but typical Gooner he's always injured, Chillwell will eventually be the man there.
If I was to manage England and everyone was healthy I'd run out this team:
ST: Sturridge
LW: Sterling RW: Vardy
CAM: Barkley
LM: Alli RM: Henderson
LB: Rose CB: Cahill, Stones RB: Clyne
GK: Hart
Subs: Forster, Walker, Smalling, Delph, Lallana, Wilshire, Rooney
But that's a very Football Manager kind of lineup....too attacking I guess. I would even think playing Rooney as the CAM and moving Barkley back to where Hendo is and Hendo to the bench would work well too, in theory
