Fighters's Kryptonite.
Let's talk about fighters and what attributes gave them the most trouble.
Trinidad's Kryptonite was movement.

I always thought that Carl Froch was open to the overhand right. "Hold your fucking hands up". It is a trait that annoys me with many fighters these days.

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Bruno's was not having the common sense to take a knee when hurt. Though I guess his senses were scrambled to be fair.
Anyone watched the end of the Bonecrusher Smith fight lately ? How the hell Frank stayed up for so long is a mystery - wouldn't get fighters allowed to take that many punches these days.
and Khan's kryptonite is his canvas addiction

Bruno was the British darling that was handily winning the fight and only had to stay up to get the decision. The ref was hoping he could raise Frank's hand even though he would have been standing unconscious.

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
If Jumbo Cummings had landed his punch a few seconds earlier in 1983 Bruno's career could have been very different - or maybe over
It's at the 8.15 mark

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Jesus....I tell you, not many guys lock up like that before they are knocked out. It is one thing to have a punch buzz you and you're on queer street, but it's another for you to just be cemented in place. It almost looked like Bruno was electrocuted when he got stunned...it's like if you break the current then Frank would immediately collapse on the ground.
I can't think of another fighter who would constantly get hurt in that manner....just go all rubber band man bending like a tree in the wind but not even attempting to circle out or drop to a knee.
-
Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Yet people still claim Bruno had a solid chin who just did not know what to do when hurt.

He wasn't constantly hurt you balloon

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Ah shadup. Many fighters, even those with a bunch of KO losses, never reacted or looked quite like that in the ring. I don't think Bruno was purely chinny as he did manage to fight through some horrible moments, but there was definitely something off with the way he reacted to big punches. It would have been less suspect if he'd been clean knocked out a few times, rather than as said look like he'd literally been electrocuted a bunch of times, even if he came through to win one or two of em.

I believe you misunderstood the context in which I meant that, Frank Bruno wasn't "constantly hurt", he wasn't always rocked like that in fact he took a fair few good solid shots from really hard punchers and shook them off, but when on occasion he did get rocked his reaction was always similar to what we saw in that clip and I have a hard time thinking of a fighter who reacted similarly. Most fighters when hurt they'll move or attempt to move and there's where the knockdowns come from, but it's as if Frank Bruno's mind was saying "We're fucked" but his body was saying "We're still in this" because he was still standing, he just wasn't moving.

I didn't mean it to read like all you had to do was crack Bruno once and he'd be done for, he certainly weathered through more than his fair share of times being rocked, but in his knockout losses he was turned into a sitting duck because of how he reacted when he was hurt....he was a hell of a fighter, I only wish he got to fight more of the top names in the 90's but that wasn't to be.
Hell even in the 1980's why couldn't there have been a Holmes vs Bruno fight? That would have been fucking class! There are dozens of fighters I wish Bruno had fought, I am not trying to hate on the guy. Bruno vs Rudduck would have been bad as hell too!

Roy Jones - Rap Skills
Kelly Pavlik - Jim Beam

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Winky Wright- a fighter who could pary his jab. Aside from Hop's dirty tactics, once he sacrificed his jab to pary Winky's jab; he had nothing else.
Jermaine Taylor: workrate. He just has no stamina to go beyond 10 rounds with any fighter that fights hard. 12 rounds.
Juan Diaz Outside game was his kryptonite. Great inside game only.
-
Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Jermain Taylor reached a level of success and just decided he didn't have to work on improving.
I caught up with him real fast too. Talk about a short prime. He really blew an opportunity for greatness.
-
Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
A huge one was that Lewis was a fucking lazy fuck who would not train so up fat or strait over look the guy he was fighting but when he was on he was best around. Also with Bruno he lacked ring iq he had no idea how to deal with being badly rocked for the love of god take a knee dude.

They are the same

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
Watching that Jumbo Cummings clump again it's surprising how fast Bruno recovered. If he hit the deck more when nailed it would have helped him.
On a side note he looked tiny compared to todays heavyweights - 217 lbs.

Ditto for Chad Dawson, he had talent but I'll be damned if he ever truly listened to a single word from any of his trainers.

Actually no they aren't the first one suggests Frank Bruno was constantly hurt the second one says Frank Bruno was hurt in the same way constantly.
But you're a retard with no soul, so carry on

Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
LOL...I got it.I think...
Bruno doesn't get hurt in every fight. But if he does get hurt. He just can't seem to recover.
-
Re: Fighters's Kryptonite.
What about Holyfield on the end of a jab. Sure some of the heaviest jabs at time..Foreman, Moorer, Lewis, Bowe but among a few who caught him flush and buzzed at one point or another. Just rewatched Stewart and even a Rodriquez stick him repeatedly before the end came. Probably Mercers best punch against him really.
Salido- Rules :-X
Norris- At times mistook sitting or downed fighters as still six foot tall and hit them in the head.

I really think Taylor maxed it out with what he had. He was never very fluid or much of a complicated over thinker in there, almost had a rigidity about him with that bow and arrow delivery and at times flat feet. He started to bust up before and after Hopkins but always a tremendous full chest of courage and damn it all attitude. He didn't really dog it with soft comp after Hopkins either, guy burned at both ends for sure though and very quick rise and fall.
