Just saw this has been announced a few places. Sept 17th on HBO and Canelo will go back to 154 for it. Must admit this is the Smith brother I haven't seen, how good is he? Pretty safe to bet Canelo won't be fighting GGG now I'd think.

Apparently, This Mexican fucks around like that. :p
Ah didn't check that out sorry, obviously this was going to happen then. Not to impressed just watching a few clips of Liam Smith, looks like a mismatch.
I like Liam Smith, and I think he's a decent fighter, but here he's being served up to the dogs and is likely to get bashed up in this fight. He's young, and I hope that if he is starting to ship too many shots, the corner pulls him out.
Oh great. Looks like Canelo wants to get all blush in the face and be a tough guy again. What a chump. Respect to Smith but it's a bit like a spoiled brat storming into a toy store and demanding a discount. Nice chunk of change and spotlight for Liam but he should put a bow on the box of that trinket. So much for being too big for jr middleweight eh red?
Figured Canelo would fight a softie instead of a challenge. I will be surprised if his bitch move with GGG doesn't have significant negative impacts on this fights numbers. Think Canelo hurt his brand/image by calling GGG out and then ducking him like a punk.
Seriously??
Quite the opposite for me. Canelo is an established, carefully manufactured brand. Anointed the new "greatest thing in boxing" (now there's a distinction that has dropped in value)..... Canelo can do nothing short of actually saying in plain Spanish that he has no intention of going anywhere near anyone who poses a real danger to him unless he has a serious size advantage.... and Oscar will spin it into some sort of "marination" theory.
His PPV value is bullet-proof, helped along by legions of Braille-reading fans.
I honestly don't know why anyone would want to fight Canelo unless it's just for the payday, no one is beating Canelo on the scorecards I think that's pretty obvious by now so unless your like ggg who's coming for the ko why bother fighting Canelo except for the payday.
I like Liam Smith, he's a nasty little fucker, I remember in one of his recent fights he give someone a good dig and you could actually hear him cackle afterwards, always gets a good smirk on his face when he hurts someone.
He was pretty much punch perfect in his last fight against a bum, unfortunately there is no way that I can see him beating old ginger flaps, I'll be seriously fucking cheering Smith on regardless
The payday is what drives all professional fighters. After Floyd and Pacquaio had won countless world titles, they were still driven by the payday. The payday even convinced Jean Pascal to fight Kovalev a second time and take another bad beating.
Canelo is very good and he's also a bully cunt and the biggest draw in boxing right now. He'll have no shortage of guys lining up to fight him for that fuck money.
I would love it for Liam to pull off an upset. It would be magic.
The Mexican community should never buy the ppv event.
Canelo is just turning out to be junk now...he's chicken! He's waiting GGG out who turns 35 next April. It's bullshit and boxing is the big loser.
Does Liam Smith not blow up above 154 on fight nights? He doesn't look smaller than Canelo. It's not unfair if a fighter makes weight the same way everyone else does, whatever you think of Canelo he's not the only guy who can move weight easily. Of course the catch weights were a different thing, and I'm not defending this fight or anything, but Canelo isn't any bigger than the Charlo brothers or Andrade.
Well if true i think he should just drop the belt at 160 and fight at 154 which is fine with me if thats the weight class he chooses to fight at but he needs to make up his mind. I still do not get how he gains so much weight i have seen him in person he is not a very big dude.
he already has given up the wbc belt, shame the fight with golovkin didnt happen but I think fighting cotto and khan as his two "middleweight" title fights is not proper preparation to take on golovkin. If golovkin is taking on eubank jr next and canelo v smith, then maybe they are trying to build up a uk fanbase for a potential golovkin v canelo fight.. Canelo certainly needs some fights v real middleweights before he takes on golovkin though in my opinion.
I think that is wishful thinking, Eubank Jr yeah maybe, Smith on the otherhand is not known outside of boxing fans, Callum is probably a bigger name and its Liam that has the world title, if anything a Canelo v Smith fight will raise Smith's profile in England and not old ginger flaps
Understand why everyone thinks this is shit because Smith is unknown in the UK let alone the US. And Canelo has blatantly swerved Golovkin. However, I think it's a decent fight. Smith is a bit of a lump at 154 too, and a solid box/puncher.
They will though, cus they love boxing
I told myself I wasn't going to buy Joshua fight but low & behold Saturday evening I was pressing that box office button.
It will be on boxnation here but it's not Ppv worthy IMO. Canelo is saying Liam's a knockout puncher which is an attempt to try & fool the fans. He bigged up Khan too but he wouldn't big up Golovkin which tells a story. He doesn't see a threat in Liam.
Beefy looks good to me. He's not supposed to be the best of the 4 brothers but he's achieved more as a pro and I'd rate him above Callum until his younger bro proves himself at world level. I think beefy gives Canelo a better fight than Khan did but get worn down
Callum is better fighter and has more potential.
According to his boxnation bio he sits around the house and walks around at 163. But according to him....

I’m a big 154. A lot is made of Canelo coming in the ring at 180."
"I’ve said to people, if I wanted, I could get in the ring at 180. But I choose not to. On the night, there would not be a big difference between us size wise. It’s a fight I’d love. I was too big for Amir when I sparred with him for that fight. I kind of knew it was going to happen. It was always a case of could Amir go to points?"
“If Amir could get to points, he might do well. But he didn’t make it because he was too small. Amir is a 147 fighter. You’d have to chop my leg off to make me a 147 fighter.”
I didn't realise that he sparred with Khan, that would have been an interesting watch
seems like a mismatch, but is it
Canelo didn't do an amazing job on matthew hatton and Ryan Rhodes gave him a fight
smith would beat both of those fellows
I agree. I don't think it's a mismatch. But what I reckon will happen is Canelo will come in overweight, take a relatively small fine and because he's so big, beat up Smith , but Smith will keep his title. Everyone's a winner.....except the punters who get conned yet again.
I want Canelo tested. Has he got a vagina or not?

Well that's his next ring walk music sorted
I was wondering if there has been a worse HBO PPV?
I have never even seen Smith fight which means most fans haven't unless you are British most likely. Canelo may not even be the best at his weight. He could potentially be 4th best. This would be a fine boxing after dark main event or even a good undercard. It's nowhere near a PPV main event status.
Maybe some Mexicans are dumb enough to buy it because canelo is their best fighter but hopefully Americans aren't that stupid.
Saw they have Luis Ortiz vs UStinov on as well. Decent but should be a blow out for Ortiz. If they don't put a couple of serious fights on there as well then it's an horrible PPV card agreed.
His last two fights have been PPV for sure, can't remember about the few before that. The undercard for the Khan fight was hurting as well, so I guess this is the format:rolleyes:
Talking now that it'll be regular HBO. Still a wuss though ;D
I think this is a quality match up!! It's not PPV for sure because of Smith being Unknown to the masses. But the people who actually know Liam and how good of a boxer and a tough lad he is, we know this will be a great match up. I've been to three of Liam's fights recently and his last fight although it was easy he ended him in clinical style. Listening to the interviews before hand all the boxers were saying how sharp and switched on he was for this fight, just warming up on the pads you could see that Liam meant the business. Frank warren had told him he could deliver this fight and he has and full credit to Frank for doing that!
Liam needs this break to show his level and he's big for the weight and can get inside and has a good defence. If people think this will be a walkover they will be surprised, I'm expecting a good competitive match up and I'm rooting for Liam all the way!!! He will do better than Khan I can promise you that
Liam has more of a chance to beat Canelo than Hatton, Ryan and Khan. That is for sure.
that's true but it also doesn't take much for british fans to get behind a fighter from blighty, maybe it won't raise alvarezs profile that much but it'll do something for him..
Canelo Alvarez could fight Billy Joe Saunders after Liam Smith - Boxing News
Bill joe saunders for alvarez if he beats smith..
