Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan
He didn't get it all right. I disagree with some of his decisions, particularly his war on drugs. But goddamn, what a president!

I did not like him and Thatcher. They were everything that was wrong in the 1980's.

Re: Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan
Reagan.
Government grew massively under Reagan. 60 000 new federal employees, an enitire new department created.
Tripled the deficit, tripled the national debt.
Raised taxes twelve separate times, including the biggest tax increase in Americanhistory. This was to make up revenue for his huge tax cuts for top earners. The tax increases all fell on low/middle incomes, starting the huge shift the unequal underperforming economy we have today.
Gave amnesty to seven million illegal immigrants.
Deliberately weakened the dollar. Actually created a policy to weaken the currency.
Ran away from radical Islamic terrorism. When a suicide bomber killed 241 US Marines in Beirut Reagan ordered the Marines to sound the retreat and leave immediately.
Appointed two Supreme Court judges who upheld Roe versus Wade.
Traded arms to Iran for hostages, then lied about it to the American people, then got caught and had to admit it.
Vetoed international sanctions on apartheid-era South Africa.
Funded the rebels in Afghanistan who became the Taliban and Al Quaeda.
I could go on.

Also per your "B-b-b-but he increased the national debt" the Democrats had Congress and therefore the power of the purse, but I mean far be it from ME to tell YOU about how the American political system works.

In which case the GOP are responsible for all the spending under Obama.
Reagan's administration proposed all the budgets, including creation of an entirely new government department. The administration draws up the yearly budget and sends it to congress. Congress add on their own earmark spending and then pass it. That's how the political system works.

A lot of it, yes....all of it? No. Let's not forget Obama's Democrat Majority Congress for his first 2 years as President.

...but Speaker Ryan is guilty as well of spending more than we needed to.

The deficits in Obama's first two years weren't down to Obama spending money, they were down to the collapse in government income due to the economic collapse of 2008.

I'm happy to blame Obaba for things he should have done. No crackdown/prosecitions on Wall Street, allowing massive mergers/less competition and so on. Of course Trump has done even worse than Obama in both these respects, even saying he;s going to scrap what little financial regulation Obamam enacted.

He shouldn't have thrown the nation's police departments under the bus.

There's a problem in a lot of police forces. Obama is the first prez to really speak out about it. It's a problem if nobody speaks out about it, it's a different problem if somebody does. Eventually it'll have to be dealt with somehow and Obama made a start on this. He's not throwing anybody under a bus, he's acknowledging a problem that exists. It may be some time before there's any more movement towards doing anything what with the current mob in charge. It's going to be interesting to see the current administration's reaction to incidents like this one.

“If we are to sustain the unity we need to get through these difficulties, if we are to honor these five outstanding officers who we have lost, then we will need to act on the truths that we know … America, we know that bias remains,” - President Obama
Oh he spoke out about it alright.....right over the dead bodies of 5 police officers who died because Black Lives Matter murdered them. Yeah such wise, much great words from all seeing all knowing Barack Obama.
I don't LIKE the Police, but I have enough fucking sense to respect them and stay out of trouble....apparently that's asking too fucking much from a section of our society.
