Where has Figueroa been? Was his last fight against Burns?
Figueroa and his brother have been training in Indio with Joel Diaz. Since the DeMarco fight Omar promoted a couple fight cards in the McAllen area.
Anyone seen Figueroa training etc? Long road back a yr and a half out and jumping up full 147. Always like Guerrero but definitely on a bad run now. Not a bad card but going head to head with HBO triple header. Going to be a busy Saturday!
Brandon Figueroa is also fighting on this card.
Nice, this dude puts on a show. I remember that fight he had with the Japanese fellow who's name I forgot. That was a battle.
He always seemed like a decent kid. I know he had the option of going into another pro sport, I think it was baseball. I hope he continues to have success
There was a strange moment where figs was on the ropes and the jap had him. The jap hesitated for a second and it looked like he gave figs an escape route. Watch it it's strange see if u see what I say. By the way I don't mean jap in the derogatory terms, he was game and I've seen him before, I just forget his name. Very happy to see this on network.
Ps I think that was the fight where berto only most hit himself and ended up screwing up his shoulder requiring surgery. He was never quite the same after that
Card starts at 7 here. Bit of a cluster with no clear order with 2 hrs on regular Fox, main event, followed by 2 hrs on FS1.
Good thing I looked on here. I totally forgot that this fight was today so I hit record.
Like to see Szpilka do well here. Kownacki is just massive and definitely a step slower of foot.
Brutal finish by Kownacki, Szpilka just drops his hands and takes a half dozen bombs before falling into a heap!
This could be a real display of levels. Hey shocker Marcus Browne fouls an opponent :-X. Browne hitting him with everything 1st
Figueroa not in the best shape
Didn't think he would completely let himself go during the layoff.
Edit: I stand corrected
It was an exorcism.
That was depressing inside use to be guerroros place I guess he is done. His berto fight was a classic I'll will miss him. All the guys I've followed are old, very depressing
After 1st definitely didn't see him walking through Guerrero like that. Roberts chin just evaporated. Bit weird but totally devastating.
Hey I'm at work i need to keep running in and out is there another fight
Any of you a bit depressed about Guerrero? Don't get me wrong. I love figs and his balls to wall technique so I was happy about that but watching Guerrero get beat so quickly and lose his fight plan so early really bummed it out. Not taking away anything from figs, love the guy, just sad to see the ghost being a ghost of his former self. I don't even think him sticking to his original plan of not going toe toe wouldn't have helped him.
So Guerrero lost and his best days are behind him as a boxer. He must have made some good money particularly against Floyd so should do what Maidana did and retire.
For me it's harder when aguy suddenly doesn't have it. Guerrero has been declining for years. I think with improved health and longevity of careers we sometimes lose sight of how long things happen. He's won 2/7 in 5 years. 5 years is an eternity in boxing. For example I'm not sure SRLs first run before retirement was much more than that.
Edit-first portion of his career was 6 years 10 days. Had 7 fights after that.
I think it's also partly me facing the fact I'm aging as they are
Remarkable turn around after that 1st round as I did not see skinny fat inflated lightweight Figueroa being able to overcome rock solid ripped Guerrero at 147. Masterful inside fighting by the smaller man. Yes, Robert has been slipping, but up until this fight, his chin looked mostly in tact. I've never been so wrong after a 1st round.
I kind of thought the same thing. Guerrero has definitely been slipping the last few years, but he looked by far the stronger fighter in the first round. I was thinking that Guerrero was too big of a step up as a comeback fight and at a weight he has never fought at before. After the first round, I found out that I was completely wrong.
Guerrero fought a very bad fight and good that he has the sense to call it a day. He kept on running back in to get hit with the same shots again and again and it made absolutely zero sense considering that he won the first round by watching the distance and using some common sense. He won't need any chiropractic adjustments after that fight.
Guerrero and his family's story is a proper heart warmer. They've earned a rest I reckon.
Guerrero looked awful
Figueroa is always entertaining. I'm not sure if he makes it back to 140 tho.
Definitely Guerrero has been a stand up guy sticking with his wife during her illness which last I heard she is in remission and I hope that's true. He gave us a lot of good fights during his career and I admit I thought he might bang up Floyd a bit. I hope he had some loot stashed away and can chill for a while till he decides what he is gonna do unless he always know. But thanks Guerrero I was a big fan for many years. You were game and great to watch

Probably one of the more down to earth guys recently and he was always in tough. Very much earned his spot. I gave him some stick early with his occasional billy goating and Yordan fight but very respectable career. Still have to say the turn around between the first and second round was so unbelievable. Figueroa looked terrible early and his attitude was pretty much 'meh, yeh I got fat' and it was as if Guerrero lost everything instantly. All the best in retirement and hope it sticks.
