Is Floyd finally retired?

Let's imagine (for some strange reason) that Canelo sparks out GGG cold in the 9th round and immediately calls out Floyd for a rematch.

Would Floyd consider another last and final fight in May 2018 that could possibly do record breaking numbers?

Floyd looked old, fighting out of his natural weight class and took way too many shots from a novice (even if that was part of the plan).

Is Canelo the only fighter that could bring Floyd back?...or have you had enough of Floyd?

(I'm sick of the constant talk about pay per view sales etc and Stephen A kissing his arse all the time)

Floyd is retired. By May 2018, he wouldn't have fought a proper pro boxer in a meaningful fight for nearly 3 years.
At his age, there's no such thing as easy money..........well, apart from the other night.

If GGG sparks out Canelo there would no Floyd comeback because he would hide behind his settee hoping triple G does not call him out.

People will ALWAYS buy his fights and sure it's a tribute to how much of an asshole he is...people want to see him get KO'd and after that they'll want to see it again, and again, and yeah keep those rolling.

Don't get me wrong, Floyd is SUPREMELY skilled in the ring...he's too skilled to take credit for fights that were in his favor well before the bell rang ergo my great dislike of him. Ray Leonard challenged himself, Ray Robinson challenged himself, Duran challenged himself, Hearns challenged himself....Floyd looked for ways to tilt fights in his favor FACT he always did it, ALWAYS....Floyd is a great fighter, with a very padded record that is his legacy.

Also Hatton looked rubbish struggling to win the title at welterweight. Hatton relied on bullying and roughing up his opponents at light welter and he could not do that as effectively at welterweight.

Ricky fought Luis Collazo at 147 before the Floyd fight, and he looked like shit. He fought again at 140 and after that Floyd was ready to fight him......at 147.

Hatton like Arturo Gatti was one of those guys who just bulks up and out muscles and overpowers an opponent now I'm not saying Ricky would have beaten Floyd at 140, but I AM saying Floyd didn't face THE BEST Ricky Hatton just like he didn't face THE BEST Miguel Cotto or Mosley or De la Hoya. And there are guys he never fought, plenty of them in his era who were extremely worthy of a shot at him and why not? Everything you listed can easily be explained except Paul Williams.

Margarito and Cotto, when Floyd fought Gatti Cotto's people were approached about a Floyd/Cotto fight and they said they weren't interested at this time. Later when Floyd was still with Arum he said he would fight Margarito for 8 million, Cotto for 10 or ODLH for 15. Arum said the money wasn't there. So Floyd left. This is all in Dan Rafael's archives. Floyd had a small window to buy out of his contract that would expire in a matter of 2 months. Arum offered him Margarito but it came with the addendum of 1)a contract extension and 2)Arum said he wasn't willing to negotiate an ODLH fight ever. So Floyd paid 750k and was a free agent. Only then did Arum offer him Margarito for 8 million free and clear. Which obviously is really a slap in the face offer of 7,250,000. And how about "the money isn't there", well Floyd fought ODLH for far more than 15 million and Cotto for 40 million. So, the money was there.

But speaking of ODLH, Oscar said for years he wouldn't fight Floyd because of respect for Sr. also easy to find. So again, timing isn't Floyd's fault.

Mosley, Floyd offered Shane the fight before he caught Oscar. Shane said he didn't want to step on Oscars toes. Then Floyd offered him 6 million after fighting Vargas. Shane said he had a toothache, said he needed a vacation, he fought one month later than Floyd offered and for I believe 1.5(might have been 2). They turned down an expected offer, another offer, before they even saw it. Is that the action of people looking at a fight?

In 21 years and 5 divisions there are going to be some guys missed. But people are wrong about who. Floyd should have fought Cassamayor, should have fought Paul Williams and should have fought Winky Wright. Those were the challenges. They go through fighting the best coming up and then slow down a bit once they reach the top and pick beatable opponents for the most part. That's the business of boxing unfortunately

Yes, big win and full credit to him. I thought the Cotto fight was a good one too albeit I'd rather have seen undefeated Cotto vs Floyd, I'd rather have seen undefeated Cotto vs Pacquiao too or just Cotto with a trainer in the corner vs Pacquiao but hey that just goes to show I don't just shit on 1 dude for padding his record a bit, Floyd knew when to get the deals done for certain all credit to him.






One DOES wonder if Canelo was to beat GGG would Floyd be tempted for a rematch to capture the middleweight titles? I highly doubt it, 50-0-0 is a well rounded good solid retiring record...I doubt he'd have much trouble, but you never know and with any fighter you're always going to want to take that 1 step closer to greatness even if you're already considered a great.

Cotto was always going to be a tough fight for Floyd because he could bang, but he could box and he could switch up righty to southpaw and he could JAB....however by the time Floyd fought him he had some fire taken out of him AND had switched trainers which I think he's never been the same since that time anyway...how can you fully trust anyone in your corner when a trainer who is your blood relative allowed for Margarito to load his wraps? That was a turning point in Cotto's career where he basically had excellence stolen from him...not that he would have remained undefeated forever but Undefeated Floyd vs Undefeated Cotto would have been the BIGGEST test for either fighter bar none Prime vs Prime no angles, no waiting until just the right moment, none of that bullshit. It would have certainly been a bigger feather in Floyd's cap than how it is now and Floyd had his troubles with Cotto and it's not seen as all that impressive of a win.

That was a turning point in Cotto's career where he basically had excellence stolen from him...not that he would have remained undefeated forever but Undefeated Floyd vs Undefeated Cotto would have been the BIGGEST test for either fighter bar none Prime vs Prime no angles, no waiting until just the right moment, none of that bullshit. It would have certainly been a bigger feather in Floyd's cap than how it is now and Floyd had his troubles with Cotto and it's not seen as all that impressive of a win.

Floyd had seen Cotto being stopped and fought aggressively to try and do the same. Floyd got a bloodied nose for his troubles and took more chances than I have ever seen since moving up to the weight. It was an entertaining fight but am sure Floyd was disappointed that he did not stop Cotto.

Oh yeah of course but the caveats in THOSE fights were Margarito had loaded wraps and in the Pacquiao fight he didn't even have a trainer in his corner.

Canelo Alvarez would have knocked Conor McGregor out 'in one round or two rounds'

Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar Del La Hoya believes Saul "Canelo" Alvarez would have taken far less time in finishing Conor McGregor than Floyd Mayweather did.

Mayweather took on McGregor on Saturday night (26 August) as he defeated the Irishman via a 10th-round stoppage in a big-money fight that has been overshadowing Canelo's own upcoming middleweight title fight with Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin on 16 September.

Del La Hoya was never a fan of The Money Fight and made no secret of what he thought about it just a couple of days before it took place.

Despite him previously claiming that the contest could ruin boxing, it turned out to be fairly entertaining and competitive with the "Notorious" receiving credit for going 10 rounds with Mayweather.

However, DeL La Hoya believes the only reason McGregor lasted that long was because "Money", who notably bet on himself finishing McGregor in under 9.5 rounds, let him.

"Because Mayweather let him," De La Hoya said on The MMA Hour. "The first four of five rounds, he let him do that. The punches are coming from different angles. It was a bit awkward to watch, actually."

The former boxer added that Canelo, who he promotes, would have knocked McGregor out early on and that combat sports fans will see what a true boxing match is next month.

"After seeing Saturday's fight, Canelo probably would have knocked [McGregor] out in one round or two rounds," he added. "Canelo is a knockout guy, he's a guy who's not gonna trick people into making a fight last longer than it should last."

"I'm glad all these people spent their hundred dollars on watching this event. Now on Sept. 16, they will know what two pure boxers will be demonstrating and showing. ... You'll find out what a boxing match is."

Despite not being a fan of the Mayweather vs McGregor match-up, Del La Hoya maintains that he respects anyone willing to step up and fight. However, he wants to see cross-code fights end from now on.

"I respect any fighter that gets into the ring, that's the bottomline," De La Hoya explained. "The fact that McGregor even tried, there's huge respect from my part to him."

"I respect the UFC, I respect any UFC fighter that's in the Octagon, I respect fighters that put their life on the line. What I'm trying to say is they're two different sports and I don't want to see anything like it again.

"I probably will even go to his fight or buy his next fight when he steps into the Octagon again, because he's an amazing guy."

Yeah, let's talk about this.:rolleyes:
But going back to Oscar's statement, I agree with him. Canelo would wipe McGregor out early. Styles make fights.
But it doesn't really matter how you get the win, it's getting it that counts. And Floyd did say "it'll finish when I want to finish it."
And guess what Oscar? Floyd beat Canelo.
Still, Floyd was so shit that you lot can't stop talking about him after he's retired. Dear oh dear!

I hope he does stay retired. I always knew he'd comeback for 50
But at 40 he's past his prime and should stop while he's ahead.
He could still beat Thurman, Spence or Crawford (maybe)
And I'm sure he'd beat Danny Garcia or Jeff Horn
But he should just call it a career and walk away IMO.

From what I saw of Floyd, he is not beating a top WW anymore. He will only decline and he didn't look impressive against an MMA fighter. He is a shell of his former self.
