Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
Says they fight in a style that is not pleasing to fans, that's why they are not popular. This is his new reasoning for not having GGG fight Charlo. To add to the pile of reasons "we will never fight Charlo, if he is mandatory we will put it off until it is forced as long as we can, we don't have to fight him"
Has he never seen
Anthony Joshua 20-0(20KOs)
Deontay Wilder 39-0(38KOs)
Errol Spence 23-0(20KOs)
I could go on but let's talk about the defensive fighter he speaks of, Jermall Charlo. He has had 2 fights go the distance since the start of 2010. 20 fights, 18KOs. Does this sound like a "black defensive fighter"? I mean he is right, Charlo is black
If they said "we're after belts so he is not our target" I would understand. But the excuses are old. Say "we're after paydays" I don't really care the reasoning. But be honest FFS

Everything he says is wrong. Black fighters do sell. He didn't make Terry Norris fight like a mexican. Mexicans don't all fight one way. Dude is buck dancing insulting his own people to sell GGG.

Abel is so desperate to keep the 0 for GGG..why fight any other fighter if he can make a trilogy with Canelo..the money he must take as the trainer must be huuuge.
Canelo vs GGG is going to sell regardless of any controversial comments.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
All this does is make you more interested in Charlo. Why would the big bad triple G's trainer be so afraid of this fighter with these weak excuses?

I get what you're trying to do, defend his side. But your spin "all this does is make you more interested in Charlo" would only work if they intended to fight Charlo. They don't "we won't ever". But even if you ignored those words. They've said they want Saunders next. And after that is finishing out the trilogy. And that's if they win both. They really don't intend to fight him.

I am genuinely interested in Charlo now. Is he that good, have not really looked but will now.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
I like Charlo and think he is a very tough challenge for GGG. In saying that tho he does need to get in line. He has only just arrived at 160 and beat one fringe type guy. Can anyone blame GGG for taking the Canelo rematch? It raises his profile against one of the biggest stars of the sport, brings him the most money, gives him the opportunity to erase any doubt fro the first fight, and it's a fight he basically already won. Saunders is the logical next step. Unifies the belts, this raises his profile further, the money would be very good also. If GGG takes Canelo out then there would be no need for a 3rd fight. Charlo could get in then, but there are guys like Jacobs, Murata and Derevyanchenko who are just as deserving of a shot at GGG as Charlo is.
-
Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
Basically, all attacking fighters in the history of boxing are actually Mexican according to Abel.
-
Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
Abel doesn't want his man being 'boxed' ;D. They cannot all be face first trucks like Lemeuix Abel. Honestly recent Saunders and Derevyanchenko will untilize more of a back foot and all around boxing than Charlo I believe. Charlo can put hurt on people and has been calling out Golovkin for about year and a half now.
Why is he even talking about it like Canelo is concluded? Golovkin will need to beat him more than handily to get the nod I think.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
The problem is that there are a good amount of good middleweights but nobody is fighting each other. There shouldn’t even be a Canelo-GGG rematch because everyone knows who clearly won, but it is happening. Dont follow GGG and wait around for Canelo. Do what GGG did years back when he kept winning until he became known as the best because the lineal champ (Martinez then Cotto) wouldn’t fight him.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
Just watched this vid. Sanchez is full of shit tbf. So when he says “Black fighters,” I take it he means Black American fighters? And they don’t sell? What a fucking plank he is. I happen to think the style of most Black Americans is a sight to behold. But it’s a massive generalisation.
People probably won’t agree with me , but the main reason I’m a fan of George Groves is because his style is closer than any other fighter over here to that “Black fighter”style. Great jab, good movement, crouching style with a great counter punch.
And apparently GGG “Turned Canelo into Mayweather.” Bullshit! GGG actually made Canelo look like Mayweather! There’s a difference and it’s not complimentary. He’s his fucking trainer, tell him what to do .
This is why I can’t be fucked about this fight. A lot of shit talking while the division stands still.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
I might be in the minority but I still believe Canelo had the quality punches in the first fight..he didn't win but he didn't deserve to loose either.
The rematch will put every single doubt to bed..

The dodgy scores from the judge ruined the fight and took away the success from the fight that Canelo was doing to GGG.
On the other hand, Canelo has way too much control (A side) as the challenger to the best middleweight in the division with all the belts..Let's hope there is a knockout in this fight to completely ruin any chance of a trilogy.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
That is not an unusual opinion, you hear it a lot in Mexican gyms. Plus, my understanding is that Mexican/Mexican-American people buy PPVs at a higher rate than any other ethnicity, by a large margin.
Some years back Floyd himself told my friend, who was 15-0(10) at the time, to protect his 0 because an "undefeated Mexican fighter is a very valuable commodity."

I agree but I think that Canelo definitely deserved to lose. He controlled certain aspects of the fight and landed some good shots, but clearly lost.

Canelo waited too long in that fight to start throwing back. Canelo fought a negative fight and GGG should have pressed on the gas a bit more.

Hopefully Golovkin will just make it more certain this time without getting too desperate. Golovkin is too experienced to make a mistake like that again.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
also let me address the crux of this thread "they(black fighters) fight in a style that is not pleasing to fans"....I beg to differ. I mean SURE nobody likes to see anyone do their impersonation of Bernard Hopkins, but it takes talent to fight that way.
As a boxing fan I look specifically not at 1 style but 2 styles and how they go together. GGG is aggressive, he's a solid boxer, and he is certainly offense first. Charlo looks to be more of a sweet science guy and if they were to fight it would be Charlo using his footwork to draw GGG out and catch him with counters. GGG would want to get Charlo's feet crossed up or in a corner and go to work on him. Not a good matchup for a fighter with age on him....not impossible but not a FUN fight for GGG. Canelo was believed to fight with some Mexican stand and deliver and he made it difficult by being evasive...ugly fight, ugly result, but here we are with the rematch.
I think Charlo will end up being a big time somebody but he's going to have to be able to consistently deliver the offense in his fights in order to attract the fans. And as MMA (God I hate to even bring it up), but as MMA continues to grow you're going to see more and more fans want that kind of attack where they assume no attention is being paid to defense. That's what Mike Tyson did which everyone loved, that's what RJJ did that everyone loved, and that's what Floyd Mayweather eventually chose not to do and well he got plenty of heat for it but hey there's money in that too.

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
The irony is that GGG doesn’t really fight “Mexican style.” Against people like Monroe or Wade he does come forward a bit more and allow himself to be hit in order to get he KO. Against bigger punchers like Lemieux or Stevens, he completely stayed back and boxed. I’m not at all saying that’s a bad thing, but he has proven that he doesn’t want to stand in there and exchange with higher quality fighters/punchers.
Even Canelo he chose the safe route and didn’t step on the gas because he seemed trying to avoid the big counters. Again, I’m not saying it wasn’t smart but that he proves that he is more of a boxer than a brawler.

But what's being missed in this is that this "undefeated mexican" isn't a valuable commodity for his style, it's because his country will support him. The idea that there is a mexican style is preposterous. Barrera didn't fight like Chavez, or Morales, or Marquez or Alvarez. Not one of them fought like the other.
Mexicans are usually come forward fighters with chin tucked solid fundamentals. But each fighter is different.
Similarly, Joshua doesn't fight like Wilder who doesn't fight like Ward who doesn't fight like Charlo who doesn't fight like Spence who doesn't fight like Thurman. Hell, Charlo doesn't even fight like Charlo FFS.
The idea Mexicans, or "blacks" or " white's" or or or can be pigeon holed into a fighting style because of the country they were born or the color of their skin is ignorant. And the boxing media is shite for not calling him on such ignorance. But really it's worse than ignorant because the dude knows that, he's buck dancing insulting his own people to sell GGG like hey predictable mexicans buy GGG because he fights how all Mexicans like because Mexicans are all the same. Dude is a scumbag. Mexicans are a diverse people. "Blacks" are diverse too.

I'm not attacking you or anything. I think you are taking this too much at face value. This is all about perception. I think the point Grey was trying to make is that with the floyd advice is Mexicans perceive their countrymen as fighting in a Mexican style. As long as there are a lot of Mexican fans within media reach of the typical American Venue, those fighters will always have fans and make bank when it comes to media coverage. As far as there being a Mexican style, I'll agree with you... There is no uniformity as far as Mexican fighters go. I guess many hardcore Mexican fight fans would be hard pressed to outline the Mexican style if asked, but will look back at Barrera Vs Morales and say "That's it...." Its a perception of people knowing things when they see it. My personal affinity is for JMM as he wasn't just a face first brawler, he actually boxed beautifully when wanted to... so my habit is not to watch styles but fights and fighters. Perhaps the overall perception is that there is a consistent unspoken no "running", retreating or appearing non combative in the "Mexican style" for many of those fans. Which is why many of those fights could take place in a phone booth. There lots of stigmas running through Latino cultural history that influence perceptions and are carried down through generations. Machismo being one of them. Pride being another. A fighter moving evading punches and attempting to just score and win the fight on the cards is considered bad form up against these cultural based watermarks. I mean let's face it, Canelo might have been endeared to some Mexican fans, but came in second fiddle to Chavez. Chavez hadn't even accomplished much but because of who his father was and he was a big kid that, for a limited amount of time, was able to make up for his lack of defense, discipline, and other shortcoming by weight bullying and knocking out opponents while trying to please his father. That's why the fight between canelo and jr. had to be made. Canelo fought a modified style but wasn't always the typical man of the people and Mexican media darling till he erased Chavez jr and broke that legacy that he was being measured up against. Eventually he won many of the fans over when the other options had been eliminated from the major notoriety stage. As for black fighters fighting a non pleasing style. As i've said, there is no uniformity. But i'm guess Abel issued a blanket statement based on Floyd and Ward's recent accolades (especially when he feels his own fighter should be pound for pound #1 and is accomplishing more). Was it incorrect? sure. offensive? definitely. I think Abel is an intelligent coach who has seen a lot but may be not as PC or concerned with the social etiquette/climate that is happening now. He had 3 minutes to give an interview and spoke comfortably without the long winded anthropological explanation I just typed. Its just words from a person with his own opinions and perhaps dated perceptions, until you make it more than that...

Re: Able Sanchez "black fighters...."
It's a ridiculous and stupid comment, but it has generated a lot of attention ..... so there you go.
But, I can't help responding with Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, Nigel Benn, Evander Holyfield, George Foreman, Ron Lyle, Cleveland Williams, Earnie Shavers, Gerald McLellan, Bob Foster, Henry Armstrong, Joe Louis .... the fucking list goes on and on and on.

To be fair he would respond by saying he never actually said black fighters all have the same style :D
He was answering a question about Canelo and made the comparison between him and modern black fighters adopting Floyd's style which the Latino fans are not fond of. That was all.
