Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against ggg.
No thread for HBO's amazing card to rival lomachenko v linares.... Shocking!.
Watching on delay of course due to weird Canadian cable west coast delay.
Vargas v... Errrr how the Dickens do I spell that name, its like maritosayan but worse :S.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Vargas was looking pretty good in the first round and then vanes second cousin lands a good punch and stuns him bad... Who wins that round.. Who knows! 1-0 for honawhatevr

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
So far this is a really fun fight, vargas looks good but homovesian keeps coming and is getting to vargas, vargas plays silly games too and drops his hands, gets hit... Good body shots from vargas... I drank 12 cans of beer so I can see around 100 letters when trying to read vargas opponents name... Good fight though.

(spoiler)
All the GGG haters and people complaining about Muniga being his opponent will be gutted if they're bothered to watch this.
How the funk the Ring prospect of the year was deemed not worthy by Nevada to face GGG is ridiculous. Ali ain't no great shake shakes but still... for a man that beat Cotto he shouldn't have even been in the ring with the massive Mexican puncher.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
End of third round here(I know the fight is actually over)... It's a good one, vargas looks to be the more skilled guy and he starts the rounds off well but his opponent keeps coming and lands good ones in the third minute of the round, I have to think vargas will wear him down and he will run out of energy but still vargas is getting hit well.

Bloody hell that's almost as bad as his real name....
Vargas is looking good at times but then the fellow with heavy eyebrows is hitting him good later on in the rounds. No idea on the score cards, I think it should be fairly even.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
It's sort of funny(actually not really humorous at all) that soviet fellow has a few defeats and not so many wins, compared to vargas, the soviet looks to be a mug on paper but this git Is pretty good.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
If you're listening to Max, Jim and Roy... Vargas is Juan Manuel Marquez (he knows Nacho Beristan) and Azat is Gatti (he's a crowd pleaser who gets punched in the face a lot).
-
Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Azat is a solid little tough guy but Vargas is a really poor "world" champ, especially being an undefeated Mexican and all. The guy is getting mullered against anyone a bit decent (i've been losing money betting against him since he scrapped past Gavin McDonnel, probably will go through his career unbeaten).

I am listening to them... And they do mention nacho a lot :S....
I am sure vargas height and reach has helped him before but the Armenian chap is really getting past it, maybe he's not a great but it makes for fun watching, I have enjoyed this fight. Last round being shown here now,.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Oh dear 118 for vargas.... I didn't think so, maybe I'm drunk but I think the areminian gave a good account of himself and was certainly close to winning.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Oh dear Ali is down int the first round.... Munguia landed a good hook to the body too just before the knockdown..... Did hbo set up poor sadam Ali for a KO here... Down for a second time... Ali upset someone by beating cotto.... Munguia is very big.
-
Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Sadam should ask Curtis Stevens to stop holding the belt and jump in with a steel chair here or something.
-
Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Poor Ali he is down again at the end of the second round, he had a bit of success there but munguia is just way bigger and stronger.
-
Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Ali has some good moments in the third but the Mexican says do I look bovvered.... And comes back and hurts him more :S..... Bit of a squash match.
-
Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
Ali down for the last time in the forth from a left hook, ref stops it quick but I think it's the right choice, munguia was way bigger and stronger than him, Ali isn't a mug despite what people claim so its a good win for munguay, but I think you can't ignore the size difference here, a 21 year old guy who will end up at a higher weoghtclasss v a 147 guy.... Poor Ali I think he will retire now... Hbo set him up bad there.
Don't know if this means he would be a good opponent for golovkin or not but it's a bit bizarre he would be rejected but vanes was ok... I suspect hbo wanted the nsac to reject him so they can work that angle.

Alpha called this and he even warned me. Feel an idiot now.

Sadam ali gets a harsh time from fans but he really isn't that bad, in the current system of multiple title belts I think he is worthy of being a 1/4 champ, he certainly has some skills and speed he's just not that great. .. good for him winning a world title and I can't help but think hbo set him up to be slaughtered here against a guy way bigger than him.... I am looking forward to seeing more of munguia although I suspect he won't be able to stay at 154 for long without eating a lot of Mexican beef... I can see him being an alvarez opponent soon.
It actually turned out to be a fun broadcast, vargas v the aremenian was fun and it was interesting to see the munguia ali squash match.

Ali isn’t awful but I remember watching a few fights early in his career and was never that impressed. He has ended up about where I thought he would. A decent fighter but nowhere near the skills to be a top fighter.

Ali had a target on his back. Munguia got to him first, by chance as well, by getting ruled out for GGG and then Smith getting injured. Ali gave his all but never really had a chance against the big young gun. Munguia is far from polished but just thinking of a Hurd/ Munguia brawl is wondrous.
If Sadam continues he should return to 147.

Re: Saddam Ali v the Mexican fellow they tried to get in to replace Canelo against gg
You know what impressed me the most about Munguia? He kept his right hand at home and mostly caught the left hook counters Ali was throwing. I liked him, throws good punches.
