    Default Going up in Weight

Ok i know there is other posts probably referring to this. Well i have seen similar posts but not exactly what i'm asking for.

I box at 152, well at least used to box at 152 but walk around at about 160.

Now the problem is becoming that I cannot make 152 no more, and when i actually DO make it I feel like i'm about to pass out and have no type of energy to fight.

Well i am to little for 165.

I am 5'10 and am trying to go up to 165, but i need to get a little bit wider to compete with the other 165 amateurs, i have seen them and they are about my hight and alot wider look way more heavy set. I am guessing they walk around at about 170.

What is the proper way to pack on pounds and mass?

People told me to drink protein and keep training and also do more weight training. This is what I started doing and am now walking around at 165, I do look bigger but not as big as i need to be.

    Any Advice?

Eat a lot of protein too. That helps.

    :P

Protien alone won't make you gain weight... You need to have more calories going into you're system than are going out. Protien contains about 4 calories per gram but you're body doesn't use much of it unless its in starvation mode.

Eat a lot of clean complex and simple carbs... Pasta, Wholegrain cereals, oats, bananas, Raisins.

Make sure you give you're body enough time to recover. you don't need to hit the weights to put on mass for boxing, I'm sure it helps but if you're just wanting to move up a weight and be able to hit hard at it change the way you do you're bag work, be explosive in you're movements, go as hard and as fast as you can, really use you're legs and shoulders.

You're legs should be where you try and put the weight on but there aren't really any weight lifting you can do to you're legs which is going to keep you're legs loose and limber. Add hill and stair sprints into you're road work.

You'll get dense, strong legs in no time. It may be worth a program geared at bulking you're upper body up but in my opinion if you'e worked you're legs properly what you already do should be enough for the upper body, as long as you work the legs and make you're bag work explosive. I don't know the exact science but if you're legs don't grow, you're arms can't grow past a certain point.

Other wise you'd end up like an upside down triangle and you're balance and anchoring would be awfull... when you're walking around... lets forget about throwing punches for a second... it'd be like punching whilst hanging from a rope

No wonder you can't make your old weight, your starting to physicially mature. I was 5 foot 10 and just over 11 stone 1-2 years ago then I suddenly shot out to 13.5 stone in a matter of months...

That sounds about right to me. I think it is the fact that i'm physically growing into a bigger man and cant stop the natural growth.

Only problem is now that i am to little for the next weight class which is 165...

I have the same problem, I fight at 81kg but I am naturally about 85-6kg (thats in training aswell ) which is a ouch small for heavyweight (most are about 90kg) not sure wether to cut my losses (I hit harder than most guys well over 90kg) and fight at that weight or go for 90kg or stay at 81kg...
