    Default Calzaghe wants Woods!!!

    www.fightnews.com

    Sunday, September 3 2006

    By Craig Watt

WBO and IBF super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe spoke to Fightnews.com in Bolton last night after IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods retained his title with a split points decision over "Road Warrior" and former champion Glen Johnson. Calzaghe confirmed a planned move to 175 pounds to take on the champion. He stated, "I thought Clinton deserved to win tonight. It was a close fight but the big ninth round for Johnson seemed to take so much out of him that the tank was empty for the last three rounds and Clinton dug deep to find that extra energy and resolve. I think he proved he is the best light heavyweight in the world now and I am the best super middleweight in the world so it would make a great fight. The UK boxing public deserve this fight to happen and I am sure it will." Sports Network promoter Frank Warren added, "It's not a problem, so let's do it. We will do our best to get it made. I want it, Joe wants it and Clinton wants it so we will work hard to achieve this fight." Calzaghe will first defend his IBF and WBO 168 pound titles against Aussie Sakio Beka (20-1-2) at the MEN Arena in Manchester on October 14th.

One thing is for sure... Wood's wouldn't be getting [b]any[/b[ favours from the judges... again.

It would be a good fight IMO...just not the super fight that Joe said he was wanting....

Would certainly be big back home though...

Glen Johnson and Clinton Woods would be easy pickings for Joe . Hed have his way with both and would look good doing it . Its not even competative TBH . Joe Would steam roller Clinton Woods and pick Johnson to pieces .

Theres only two boxers Joe needs to be fighting out there and thast Bernard Hopkins and Jermaine Taylor

Well personally I thought Clinton lost last night. He would give a game performance against Calzaghe but Calzaghe is just too quick, too smart and too good for Clinton.

By the way what did you guys make of that decision?

I had Johnsonn by about 3 rounds. I think Duke McKenzie was commentating on a different fight to what I was watching. He kept going on about how tired Johnson was and how Clinton was backing him up, Johnson didn't take a backward step all night, he must have thrown more punches than Clinton and definitely landed more. He caught Clinton flush at least a dozen times in the fight, not sure if Clinton ever landed a big shot on Johnson.

It wasn't a robbery like the Toney Peter fight, but Johson was very unlucky to be going home with nothing to show for his efforts.

imo johnson is 3 - 0 agaisnt woods. woods was eating the right hand all night. johnson won the fight in the middle rounds, especially since round 9 was a 10 -8 imo. you dont get points for getting caught flush on the chin clinton!
