WBO and IBF super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe spoke to Fightnews.com in Bolton last night after IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods retained his title with a split points decision over "Road Warrior" and former champion Glen Johnson. Calzaghe confirmed a planned move to 175 pounds to take on the champion. He stated, "I thought Clinton deserved to win tonight. It was a close fight but the big ninth round for Johnson seemed to take so much out of him that the tank was empty for the last three rounds and Clinton dug deep to find that extra energy and resolve. I think he proved he is the best light heavyweight in the world now and I am the best super middleweight in the world so it would make a great fight. The UK boxing public deserve this fight to happen and I am sure it will." Sports Network promoter Frank Warren added, "It's not a problem, so let's do it. We will do our best to get it made. I want it, Joe wants it and Clinton wants it so we will work hard to achieve this fight." Calzaghe will first defend his IBF and WBO 168 pound titles against Aussie Sakio Beka (20-1-2) at the MEN Arena in Manchester on October 14th.
