I got an everlast speedbag last weekend, I get to inflate when I get home from work in about
5 minutes!!
Any recommendations on starting out with it?

For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
be paitent if it's your first time...and have fun i broke mine off of my stand a few weeks ago![]()
Is this your first time with the speed bag? If so you can just go slow and get a feel for it. You probably heard of the 3 punch rhythm 1-2-3, 1-2-3. Getting a feel for the rhythm is what you want to go after when you starting out.
Later when you get better you can actually use real boxing punches, shifting your weight, and incorporate short footwork into your punches. If you continue to improve you can increase the speed and quickness of your hands in coordination with your feet, and work on setting up your punches, and tactics that you would use in a real fight. It's okay to be a little winded with the bag but it's important that you learn how to pace yourself as to the length of fighting that you want to be accustomed to.
Learning the speed bag tricks isn't necessary but it can be a lot of fun nonetheless. It's a lot of fun if you have a lady watching you.![]()
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
It is my first time on the bag, I think that I didn't inflate it enough.
it doesn't spring back as much as it should it's like 1....2..........3

it could also be your platform. chances are it's shit... most home one are, so the bag makes no difference.
How can I tell if it is in fact shit?Originally Posted by Von Milash

A good platform doesn't vibrate. If it is the platform it'll vibrate more than it should which can can slow down your progress. It's an easy fix if you just add a piece of plywood.
Vibration doesn't bother me any, I have a speed bag platform built right into a portable basketball pole. It shakes plenty, but I've gotten to the point that it doesn't throw me off at all.
The problem could be very well be your technique, you've never hit a speed bag before so you might be hitting it wrong. You don't want to rake the bag with your fist, you want to hit it with a front circle punch hitting with the side of your hand, and then hit it on the rebound. If you're not fast enough you can work on a 5 count instead. Once you get a feel for the rhythm you can work on real boxing punches, slipping, and footwork.

Mario Lopez was on Live with R and K and he was hitting a bag on a shakey platform and stopped about 3 seconds in and said (basically) this platform sucks.

"It's an easy fix if you just add a piece of plywood." I have a speedbag in my garage. It's an everlast platform, but I threw away the swivel and the bag it came with, and got an extra small bag and a pro swivel, but the backboard is kind of...slow. How exactly would one put a piece of plywood on there? Forgive me, I am no good with wood and tools...Thanks!
