Default Boxing in Mexico for British TV

    Hi everybody,

I'm posting in the hope there's someone out there who could recommend a great boxing gym in Mexico.

Our plan is to take a group of three or four amateurs from the UK to Mexico for a week's intensive boxing training at the beginning of June. We'd be filming their experience for an ITV documentary programme.

We're hoping to find a gym that has a bit of story, perhaps the home of a former champion, or of a trainer who has brought up some great boxers in the past. Perhaps it's a well known boot camp where anyone who wanted to spend a week training in Mexico would head for. Ideally it would be somewhere that would look good on camera as well.

Does anyone know a gym in Mexico that would fit the bill?

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

I'm crazy to go train in Mexico myself.

There are no stand out gyms as such, it's more of a great boxing culture where the country is flooded with good gyms and the ones who travel to the most gyms nd spar as many guys as possible gain a wealth of expierience and get the full benefit.

More time would be good but we are going to be doing other things while we're over there. We're starting out in the Monterrey area but could travel, even on to nearby countries like Puerto Rico. Only the US is out for visa reasons.

    Tom,
1st and foremost welcome to Saddos.
2nd I think it's great that you are doing this for the kids...

My opinion would be to get in contact with one of the sports GREATEST trainers. Ignacio 'Nacho' Beristain, especially right now that neither one of his major boxers is training for a major fight.
He is located in Mexico City (The capital) I can send you the info. on the gym in detail via e-mail if you'd like.

One of the more recent things I've been told is that Lupe Pintor (Bantamweight great) also trains kids around his neighborhood in a gym he built as is always open for things like this as nothing pleases him more then to help kids learn the sport tho' I don't have any info. on him. sorry.

    Good luck Tom...
