Default Why do americans hate Ricky Hatton ?

He always comes across as a likeable guy and he did have good wins over Tysu & Castillo. And in the run up to the Tysu fight he was awesome against the likes of Olivera, Phillips and Tackie. I know they're C Class fighters but Hatton is a lot better than some of the dross out there. His form has dipped since winning the world title due to his stupid lifestyle I will say that. If he was Mexican I bet he would be more popular in the states. Why all the hate ? Surely Mayorga, Judah are worse personalities to like.

I like Hatton, but I don't think most American's like to see a minature John Ruiz. Don't sad click me for this, you wanted the truth. And he has been doing alot of hugging since he has gotten exposure in the states I think.

Besides English fans are so over-the-top that even if they wanted to like Hatton, the fans turn them off.

Maybe it's because of the Hatton forum.

The reason I don't like Hatton is because he holds and hits too much, and I hate his training regimine too much off time, too much letting himself go. I'm sure he is the nicest boxer in the world, but I don't rate boxers on how much I'd like to hang out with them, I base it on their work ethic and what they do in the ring.

That being said he has had some exciting fights and he usually brings it for the whole fight.

So I don't think I would say I hate Ricky, just not a fan.

I love Hatton; one of my favorite fighters currently. His style is exciting, though I'd really like to see more head movement and less bull-in-a-china shop type aggression. The boy can box but actually handicaps himself at times by not doint it at times when he should, IMO. Love the guy and I'll miss him when he finally explodes from eating too much

Dont see that in Hatton fans, Miranda and Pavlik fans are some of the worst around.

Like booing our national anthem when you where here? Or the fans in Vegas being completely drunken (I was guilty too) and obnoxious??

You have to remember to the general public in the states, the first taste of Hatton was vs. Collazo. This was billed as something the Hatton will clearly show his elite status. This was not the most stellar performance for him and I believe when you have your first showing on HBO people are going to galvanize their opinions around that. They don't care about the weight difference or how he looked years ago against Kostya, they were expecting a dominant performance. I did have ricky winning 6 rounds a piece but the knockdown won it.

I think most Hatton fans that go are mainly made up of Football fans and were acting like they were at a football match but most of them wont know who someone like Miguel Cotto is. They watch boxing only when Hatton fights.

Which is exactly why it is hard to cheer for Hatton.

Yeah the crowd did act like trash whenever the national anthem came on so I can understand why they hate him and his followers.

The only time I really saw hate towards the British though was when Tarver was schooling Woods. You could really sense the anger they had towards the Brits. Ofcourse a week later the Brits got revenge with Joes win over Hop .

Any brit that was coming over for the Woods fight was just taking advantage of the currency situation IMO.
