Default the body punch that finished Hatton

Been out of this place lately..all I'm sure of is that this forum has been crazy after the Pac-Hatton fight. I just re-watched the fight and I noticed something no one really mentioned. Well maybe a few of you guys saw it too. Look closely around 0:46 seconds (I think that's exactly the time) of the 2nd round. HBO switched the camera angle simultaneously with the punch so maybe that's one reason almost nobody saw it. But after that you could see Ricky backpedalling all the way to the other corner. Never saw him did something like that his whole career. I thought he took a straight left on the liver. Ricky use to grab his opponent's arms when he's hurt but I think that punch was the money punch that night for Pac. And again watch closely, Ricky never threw another right hand after that. Just left jabs and a couple of left hooks. He was protecting his body I think. and the rest was history. Congratulations Pac. You're the fukking man. So long guys.

Maybe so. But i'd put my money on the punch that put Hatton to sleep as the punch that did him in.

I watched it again. Ricky was badly hurt. He was thinking twice after that. trying to keep the distance with his left hand. warding off a few times. Sure the final punch was the shit. But the body punch made it happen. How ironic it is..Ricky was the king of the punch to the liver. and now he hates that punch for sure.

I didn't notice that so will have another look when I get a chance... From memory though, his problems in that fight started long before :46 of round 2... I think around 20 seconds into round 1...

He took a lot of hard hits though while he was on the attack so would have been hurting from just about all of them..

You got a good observation IMO... Hatton from that point is quite defensive...

There's another body shot from a PAC right hook at 0:20 of the 2nd round... I think this one also hurts...

I missed the first one that prodigy mentioned, but I remember that second one with about 20 seconds left in the 2nd round. I do remember thinking hatton looks like his protecting his body more than his chin. But actually ricky couldn't protect himself at all.

After rewatching again and again Ricky was throwing punches but seem like he was not fully committed to his punches after those body punches. Seem like he was more concern getting hit again in the body. I think it slowed him down, his speed and footwork went out the window when he began to worry about body punches.

Ricky did say in an interview i believe; " he hurt me with his first punch" or something like that.

hopefully pac did develop a wicked bodypunch, it will be very useful against a defensive genius.

Mayweather has never had problems with body shots, Castillo couldn't hurt him, and he's a way better body puncher than PAcquiao. Nor could Oscar which is the only place he really landed regularly on Floyd.

Hatton was done the moment he couldn't get in fast enough, it took about 15 seconds for me to realize he was screwed and that there was no way he could possibly win the fight.

I remember seeing that punch from the stands because I saw it jolt Hatton a bit. Although I think Hatton's depleted punch resistance is really what finished him.

I think it's safe to say that Hatton was hurt by just about every punch Pac landed.

Exactly what I was gunna say. Also, he landed near every punch he threw. Do you think Mayweather Sr, as a defensive trainer, told Ricky to block those punches with his face or you think Hatton didn't follow the gameplan?

saw this on youtube..a better angle. I knew that most of the time Ricky's defense involves his face, but after the body shot he was just a sitting duck target. a left straight to the gut. Isn't that the same punch Pac used to knockdown his sparring partner? I agree it won't be effective against Mayweather. he's gonna eat a counter left hook if he tries that. and considering Floyd's stance...it's won't be an effective punch.

I noticed that too. Not sure that that was the reason the ko punch landed (no headmovement + low hands made sure of that) but he hurt him with a body punch. Almost as bad as Juan Urango did.

Yeah maybe hatton's prime chin can take that left cross.
