Default Anyone believe Joe Calzaghe is going to stay retired?

Im conflicted on this one, I think he's got 1-2 more fights in him. If Chad Dawson scrapes by Johnson and looks lackluster I could see JC calling him out because the risk factor wont be as high. It gives Joe even more bragging rights. He beat 2 of Americas Hall Of Fame Lightheavies and one of their talented up and comers. There is also the winner of the super 6, doubt he can make 168 comfortably but could easily get the winner to fight at 175..

Anyone see what kind of shape he looks in?

Im the same im not to sure. I dont think he should attempt to come back to 168 though, hes a big guy and usually walks around at around 200lbs.

Hes been on the equivelent of dancing with the stars over here and he looks fit but very bulky around 190 if i had to guess.

He said he did strictly come dancing because he became bored and wanted a challenge, I think the main reason he split from his long term partner was after he was retired maybe a coinsidance? I have this feeling he might come back but he better make is sooner rather than later hes coming upto 38.

I think by all acounts Calzaghe is missing boxing a lot more than he thought he would.

A comback is a real possibility.

Exactly. I agree after the Jones fight there was really nothing left to prove at 37, but now with the super 6 unfolding and any one of those fighters can make 175 and look good as well as Dawson considered the heir apparent, it could be interesting.. Maybe he might set his sights at Cruiser? Who knows, I just dont feel he is done yet

Go to 3.35 of the video here, and this shows Joe likes to change his mind!!

He says if he was ever on strictly come dancing you have permission to shoot him!! Similar to when he said he wouldnt fight RJJ in 2004 when he said he was shot to bits, i honestly think he will come back.

No way....Calzaghe will not come back.

He was my favourite fighter when he was active and after Jones Jr I wanted him to have another couple. But, not now. At his age and with the hunger gone a little, there is no point.

He would have beaten Dawson quite handily and Hopkins again too. But now he is settled, he should let it be.

    He's done his work.

Chad Dawson is worth 2 bob at the moment he doesn't make any money. That's not ever happening.

Yes I agree at the moment there isnt a real big fight out there for him, 100% he would comeback if there was a superstar/big money fight out there.

I cant see it being the winner of the super six for the simple fact when does this end?? Surely its to long for Calzaghe to be waiting about for the winner.

I feel the same way. I can't exactly figure out who he would fight. The Super 6 is going to take waaaay too long. Chad

Dawson is not ready for him. But not far behind. He is getting better with every fight.

I wish Joe well in retirement.

    agreed

the sort of guy that would of spent a hell of a lot of time deciding whether to hang up the gloves or not and eventually doing so

JC likes to play the possible return card because he like anybody else would be a fool to turn down a multi million pound offer if its available. Hopkins is genuinely the only possible opponent left for him. If bhop was to somehow devastatingly win his next fight and call out JC and the american demand for it was big enough for them to offer JC oscar/floyd style paydays then of course he`d return.

Otherwise you`ll never see joe in a boxing ring again. His legacy is far more important to him than that extra unneeded cash that would be on offer

I bet the super six doesn't even finish.

Say Abraham KO's Taylor, how they gonna sell Taylor as a credible opponent for the others when he's lost 4 of his last five fights, three by KO?

All these fights are gonna have to be close good ones for people to retain interest in the losers.

From the sounds of it Calzaghe is a pretty normal guy. He hasn't frittered his money away on being "money" Calzaghe, he knows who he is. He got out when he thought he needed to. I don't think he would come back again even if given the chance for a huge payday. He wasn't even interested in facing Hopkins again anyway.

I don't really want to see him fight again now, he would only have lost skills rather than gained anything and speed and combination punching was always his strength.

When I went to see Joe he was trying to justify why he should stay retired rather than who he would comeback to fight. He didnt seem like a guy who had the passion anymore.

I think he will stay retired. I cant see who he will comeback for.

I agree, not rulng out a return but would rather him not as he doesn't have the hunger. I just keep thinking of his lax preparation for Hopkins, when he was ringside for a stablemate less than an hour before, I mean what other top fighter does that? Last 3 fights he really had to think on his feet after a lackluster 1st few rounds.
