Default Pacquiao "I don't need Mayweather"

    By Dennis Principe
In what is so far his strongest message against bitter rival Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao said he considers his legacy in boxing as already cemented that he sees no need to fight the undefeated American boxer. Pacquiao made this declaration in a mini-press conference held during his courtesy call to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the Malacanang Palace moments after the pound-for-pound king arrived in the country Monday morning. “Our records will show I have beaten far better fighters compared to Mayweather. I’ve stated before that I am willing to fight him if that’s what the fans want to see. But if the fight doesn’t happen, I’m fine with it,” said Pacquiao.
Late last year talks about a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout went full steam until a stringent demand by the undefeated American that they both undergo Olympic-style blood testing messed up what would have been one of the sport’s most anticipated match-ups.
Mayweather has made countless allegations that Pacquiao used Performance-Enhancing Drugs (PED) to increase the chances of the seven-time world champion against bigger foes in moving up in weight from a skinny light flyweight all the way up to the welterweight division.
“He needs me more than I need him. If he wants the fight then let’s do it. I’m clean because I get my strength through hardwork and my faith in God,” said Pacquiao.
Mayweather is out to prove his point both in boxing skills and his aim of establishing new standard in drug testing when he battles fellow American Shane Mosley on May 1 in Las Vegas.
For their 12-round battle, Mayweather and Mosley have agreed to a no-advance-notice urine and blood testing to be conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
“I pick Mosley to win that fight because he can throw a lot of punches compared to Mayweather who’s a very defensive boxer. Defense can’t win fights especially against a fighter like Mosley who relies on speed,” said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao meanwhile has indicated his willingness to hang-up his gloves especially now that his already illustrious mother Dionisia is more vocal than ever in earnestly seeing his son retire for good.
“That’s something that I am seriously considering because I’m sure you do not want to see me end up being a beaten man, right? I know I can still compete but it’s better to retire while I’m still healthy and enjoy my success with our countrymen,” said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao, a congressional candidate in the coming May elections, recently defended World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown via a 12-round decision winover Ghanaian Joshua Clottey in front of 51,000 paying fans last March 14 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

This is the problem.. Too much pride from each fighter,,, both think they don't need the other for their record to stand out,,, both don't need each other for money,,, neither is going to want to back down regarding the drug testing issue..

The fans want it because it makes THE most sense for BOXING, and for EACH OF THESE FIGHTERS..... They may not be scared to take the others punches, but they are sure scared of something... Perhaps losing to the other, or I don't know..

    This is pathetic childish stuff..

When every man and his dog wants this fight and it makes more sense than any other fight in the whole of boxing at this current moment,,, for a either of these fighters to go on record saying they don't need this fight, is showing they don't care about boxing as much as they should, or used to...

In the end they can do what they want and fight who they want and who's anyone to say that is entirely wrong..

But these two guys aren't fooling anyone with this type of talk... Just sack up the both of you and put on a show for the people who've paid for every PPV and every ticket to put you where you are today.. Loyal people who are still sticking by you.. If you don't want the fight, be honest and give it to us straight... But don't feed us this crap about not needing the fight..

    Doesn't need Mayweather? Maybe.

Doesn't want Mayweather? It's looking more and more that way.

Mayweather came out of retirement to.... rid boxing of Manny Pacquiao because he believes that he is... the face of boxing! Kudos for that, he seems to have succeeded.

The face of boxing, legendary fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr., likewise wants to clean the sport of boxing through a more stringent measure in the conventions for dope testing. Kudos again... he sure has had these adjustments ready in place and standardized for future events.

Congatulations are in order, for Floyd is quite successful in his quests. I can respect that.

It is too bad tho', lamentable, that not everyone can share the flexibilty necessary to accomodate these new changes from PBF Jr., the "master".

To some inquiring minds, they're quite baffled and stumped. They cannot comprehend that not everyone sees PBF jr as his master, thereby are non conformists to his demands, and are unrelenting with stubborness just to be their own man.

Pacquiao the "little man" is one of these men, now misunderstood with this stance.

Everyone seems to think ill of him walking away from a possible $40 million dollar fight. "Man from the street" says to just compromise his standards, and undergo these tests as prescribed by the master, and so do pad the pocket for more coins.... $40 million coins.

Pac just plainly says no. Clearly he values himself more than the extra coins, and so too values more the struggles and what he has fought for all these trying years, a little bit more.

It is not baffling to me, nor incomprehensible. If boxing owes Manny for even a tiniest bit, they sure could give him that, give him the benefit of a doubt. Respect what he believes.

    I can respect that.

this is the tagalog/filipino version of the interview, this is what actually came out of pacs mouth.

“Baka malay mo baka hindi na ako umabot doon [fight with Mayweather]. Baka mag-retiro na ako. Eh yung Mama [Dionisia Pacquiao] ko, nagmakaawa daw siya para lang ako huminto sa boxing so pag-uusapan namin,”

you have no idea if im still going to fight pbf, cause i might retire soon. my mom has been begging me to stop fighting and i and my family will talk about it.

“Kahit naman wala ‘yung eleksyon, walang pulitlika, depende na sa desisyon naming pamilya. Matagal na kasi ako, matagal na rin sa boxing. Marami na akong nabigay na karangalan sa ating bansa,”

its not about politics and the elections the decision to quit depends on my family. ive been in boxing for some quite time now, and ive already given many honor for our country.

“Syempre after kay Cotto nakiusap ako sa Mama ko, ‘Isang laban pa.' Pinagbigyan niya ako. Sa ngayon, paano pa ako makiusap ulit? Ano bang sabihin ko?”

after cotto, i begged my mom to let me fight one more time. she said yes, but now how will i ask again? what will i say now?

“Talagang mahirap na laban ‘yung nakaraan dahil si Clottey, grabe, puro depensa lang. Matibay din, ‘di naman siya nakikipagpalitan ng suntok masyado sa akin,”

it was a hard fight the last fight with clottey. all he did was to cover up, he is tough but he didnt traded punches with me.

‘Di naman siguro ako maghamon dahil sila naman ang may kailangan. Nakamit ko ang pangarap ko sa boxing ko without Floyd Mayweather in my boxing career so walang dapat kailangang i-hamon sa kaniya,”
“Ako naman open ako lumaban sa kaniya. Anytime ako puwedeng lumaban sa kahit sinong boksingero basta pareho ang timbang, magkaroon ng approval sa bawat promoter. Anytime, puwede ako lumaban basta gusto niya lumaban.”

i dont think i need to call him out cause they are the ones who needs this fight. i have achieved my dreams in boxing w/o pbf in my career. so i really dont need to call him out.

for me im open to fight him anytime i can fight any boxer as long as we are in the same weight. should have approvals from both promoters. anytime, i can fight as long as he wants too.

I'm far from a Pacquiao apologist, but he's right. His legacy is secure without a Mayweather fight. Would his resume look even more impressive with a victory or close loss to Mayweather? Absolutely, but it looks pretty goddamn good without him as well.

I am on Pac's side on this one. Pac doesnt need mayweather and shouldnt have to deal with his rediculous demands. If you look back on Pacs career he has never dodged anyone, he has never been afraid to lose. Why would he change when fighting mayweather?

Floyd is the one that is broke and could benefit from the money this megafight would generate.

And to show that I am just not a Pac fan, I think Floyd will beat Pac when they fight. I think Floyd is just being a spoiled crybaby and this is why people dont give him respect.

Don't put an "s" on the word "demand" when it comes to Mayweather. He only asked for an Olympic style blood test while Pac and his team demanded many things.

If you look back on Pacs career he has never dodged anyone, he has never been afraid to lose

He only dodged having his blood tested Olympic style which Shane Mosley had Floyd Mayweather have already agreed to take equally for the upcoming fight.

Floyd is the one that is broke and could benefit from the money this megafight would generate

I am pretty sure Floyd has generated more money than Pac. Has Pac made enough money in just one fight as Mayweather vs De La Hoya?

And to show that I am just not a Pac fan, I think Floyd will beat Pac when they fight. I think Floyd is just being a spoiled crybaby and this is why people dont give him respect

Like it has been said before. Look at Floyd's demand compared to all the demands Pac and his team asked for. Something journalists seem to ignore as well as Pac's suspicious excuses on not taking a blood test olympic style.

well they each demanded at the least 50-50 and that was worked out so financially its hard to say one guy made demands, they both did and it was worked out.

Manny made a gloves demand (I guess, I wasn't keeping up with it at the time) and Mayweather dictated where the fight was going to be by refusing to fight in Dallas, presumably so he could use his hand medicine in Las Vegas. Or maybe he doesn't like Texas, I don't either.

So they basically made one big demand. Floyd accepted and Manny didn't. Floyd looks better.

Even if it was just those three, its 3 compared to just one: the olympic style blood test which BOTH would take. Simple math. Pac makes more than 3 demands, Floyd makes one and even agrees to 50/50 (which is hard to believe). Who is making more demands?

LOL at the idea that 50/50 was a Manny "demand." My God. This is why I stayed away from the hell hole that was the Manny/Floyd forum.
