Thumbs down Calzaghe vs Hopkins II

ALZAGHE-HOPKINS REMATCH? -- Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said he has spoken to Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins about a rematch of their 2008 fight at the Thomas & Mack Center, which Calzaghe won by split decision.

"Joe has expressed interest, and so has Bernard. We will see if we can make it happen for the fall," Schaefer said Saturday.

Hopkins is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision over Roy Jones Jr. on April 3. Calzaghe, who left boxing in 2008 with a 46-0 record after beating Jones, is a former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion. His recent admission that he has used cocaine since his retirement will be a hot topic should he return.
Joe is obviously running out of cash after stuffing it up his nose...

Wow..... ha..... I guess even with his determination to retire at the top, Joe still can't help himself. If Joe still has output to last the twelve, I see Hopkins gettin a beatin...

Nah nothing to do with the money, Joe has plenty. It is more the buzz that come from being involved in a massive fight imo.

i agree, lot of people are goint to want to see calzaghe fail his comeback so hes going to have to do a good job with hopkins and even if he does win because of his style i dnt think hell be getting the decisions he used to for his fights from now on.

I reckon this could be a warm up fight to take on the super six winner, or the winner of the super six v Bute, hed take them to light heavy.

Clever move really, Hopkins has taken Pavliks unbeaten record and ended Jones career since Joe beat him. Its a high profile name that just wont live with the pace. Its almost an easy fight.

I can't get into any more Hopkins fights. He's a legend and all, but he should lay down the gloves. I'd prefer to see a Bute v. Calzaghe fight.

What an absolute joke this would be from Joe Calzaghe, who the hell rematches a 40+ year old fighter ? B-Hop's looked terrible in his last two fights, shame on Joe Calzaghe if he takes this fight.

As much as i would love to see that happen it won't. B-Hop passed out against RJJ in his dressing room after the fight. And he had to constantly take 5 minute breaks from BS fouls, and that was against a 30 punch a round, no legs shot RJJ. He also didn't look the part against a mediocre fighter in Enrique Ornelas.

What it is with Joe Calzaghe and old men of late ? why not fight.

    Lucian Bute
    Danny Green
    Chad Dawson/Jean Pascal
    Tavoris Cloud

    ETC.

I mean whats wrong with any of these fights ? why B-Hop who is 45 year's old ? who is Joe Calzaghe kidding ? this is one of the reason's i hate Joe Calzaghe.

Let's face it, Joe is over the hill himself now. We saw this weekend what happens to a formerly great fighter who tries to restake his claim against the best at 38 and after a lengthy layoff. Joe would be better off fighting the likes of Hopkins than all those others if he is to comeback. If he wants more then it will act as a tuneup. Joe deserves a break, I doubt he even comes back, but we shall see.

Joe Calzaghe had plenty of breaks, fighting a shot RJJ who he said he would never fight. Because it would mean nothing beating him, but yet he retired on that win.

And now is coming back against a 45 year old B-Hop. Who has looked terrible in his last two fights, and whats even more ridiculous is that it would be a rematch, i mean honestly who the hell rematches a 40+ year old fighter ?

It's just ridiculous in all honesty, even the biggest Joe Calzaghe fans. Can't defend that, as i said if he feels Lucian Bute/Chad Dawson. Are too much of threat at this stage in his career.

Why not Danny Green ? who he would beat, and it would be well hyped up. Or even Tavoris Cloud who is a young champion, but very one dimensional like Jeff Lacy, who he should beat aswell.

Just tell me what hardcore boxing fan or any fan for that matter, would want to see a Joe Calzaghe vs B-Hop rematch ? the 1st fight was awful enough.

And to think both men are even older and less effective now, the 2nd fight will make the 1st fight look like Hagler vs Hearns.

I just think Joe Calzaghe should shut the hell up and enjoy his retirement, i didn't like him when he was fighting. But ever since he's been retired he's been making himself look like an idiot.

And now this just really does take the biscuit.

This fight would be meaningless now. Neither has a title, which doesn't mean much nowadays with everyone having a title but it would give some kind of bragging rights, plus which fans are really clamorng to see a rematch In the end, who really wanted to see Hopkins-Jones 2 besides Hopkins and Jones?

Danny Green v Joe Calzaghe would be hyped By who exactly?? You think HBO would pick this fight up? Dont be silly, that would a worst fight to make rather than the Hopkins rematch.

    Calzaghe should stay retired.
