Default ipad or netbook for travel - advice please (no joke this time its serious question !)

right am going away for two weeks in September for a 'sun and lazing around' holiday. Not done one of those for that long for a very long time. Anyway the hotel has wifi and i can't be offline for 14 days - 7 is manageable.

Laptop too big so do I buy a netbook or an ipad....? I know fuck all about ipads and not really arsed about having one but whats best. Or what does one do that the other don't. Does ipad take USB ??

Just want internet, to have my music on it for apartment (don't have an ipod and keep all mine on usb to play through tv and in car etc..)

    Any advice, cheers

I have a 13.3" laptop that I find to be pretty portable (I'm tying on it right now). It was pretty expensive though.

You can get a decent netbook for a couple of hundred bucks if you can find a decent deal. I'd look into that route just because I know nothing about IPad's.

    Basically,

A Tablette is kind of like a computer except it is not as powerful (at least, for the moment) and use a tactical screen instead of a keyboard, which works well but not as fast as a keyboard, would you have to work on it.
The good side though is that it is extremely pleasant to use with tactical screen, thin and somehow, very friendly user (for the Android and Ipad I could touch) and the autonomy of the battery is much better than a lap top in general (ipad battery life = more or less 10 hours where a lap top is more 3 to 5). Tablets tend to be a tad more expensive now than a netbook by around 200 bucks (guess it,s more or less the same in the UK.)
If you just want to read newspaper, answer casually emails and browse internet, a tablet can be interesting for you for the weight, easiness to carry and the life battery (which I believe is what you're looking for) but if you intend to either work on it or do more complex things, a good little netbook might be better.
The very best actually would be that you find somebody with a tablet/ipad and give it a try to see if you like how it works, from there you might have a very important imput concerning your next investment.

    i) can I add external speakers to a tablet

ii) and can it take usb (given they are only 32GB won't be much good for storing films and music)

You can plug speakers/headset on a tablet, there is no usb port on the Ipad I but it does on the second version. If you do not absolutely want an Ipad, you should still look at the alternatives with android system to see what fits best your needs.

If you just want web browsing, music and porn then an Android tablet or a cheap Linux based netbook will do the trick.

But knowing you, you'll go out and buy an iPad anyway.

Here is what you do; take the money you were thinking of spending on an Ipad/netbook, find a nice knocking shop & finally pop that cheery!

Needing a way to get online because you can't last 14 days? Seriously dude, get laid!

Hope we can still remain friends though.
