Over a year removed from a fight that never was, the friction between Din Thomas and Ricardo Mayorga has still not subsided. Mayorga has continuously made statements regarding fights with mixed martial arts fighters and has been largely ignored, until now. As the one-year mark from the failed Shine Fights “Worlds Collide” event that was to be headlined by Mayorga vs. Thomas passed, Thomas—who has not fought since then—still wants to settle the score with the former boxing champion.

In a statement to MMA Spot’s Andrew Yount, the nine-time UFC veteran relit the flame that the two began burning over a year ago.

“Comedian Steve Harvey said, ‘Dogs don't bark at parked cars...they only bark at cars that are moving.’ This couldn't be more evident than all the Chihuahua style yappin' from Ricardo Mayorga. It's easy to yap when there’s people to protect him at press conferences, weigh-ins, and now on Twitter. He claims to want to fight Nick Diaz, B.J. Penn, and myself, of course. Its the biggest load of crap trying to cross over in styles and claim one is more dominant than the other. The worse men from both sections use it to pump up their own bike tires (ego) and fools buy on into it all.

This was settled with the James Toney fight. Pure boxers can't hang with MMA fighters at an elite level simple. I can't believe there going to label Toney vs Shamrock an MMA fight considering there s going to be 3 minute rounds and a 30 second stand up rule. I doubt it will take a 47 year old Shamrock more than 10 seconds to tap him out though.

In addition to the threat of takedowns, if a fighter commits to a power shot and misses, he gets put on his ass. Plus not all boxing techniques translate well into MMA, specifically defensive ones. Glove size is drastically different (Pat Barry said Kongo KO'd him because he tried to block a boxing glove and the MMA glove easily slipped through his guard) and head kicks and knees make head movement less effective (see the recent Pat Curran vs Marlon Sandro fight in Bellator).

Imo if you put certain truly world class boxers in a kickboxing match and allowed muy thai clinches etc they would still have a solid advantage over most any MMA guys out there. Of course some boxing styles are very specific, I'd bet Pacquiao would have a way better chance to crossover in this sense than Mayweather would for example. Pac is good at moving in and out if he gets pinned against the fence he is out of his element he'd eat some elbows and knees. Also boxers lead leg is right out there for a low kick give him a few of those and he wouldn't be able to move as quick which would work against his style.
