    Default Berts Training Log

    Hello Boys and Girls.

My name is Bert and i am brand new to this site. I've enjoyed watching boxing for about 2 yeard now and have attended the occasional "pad work" session in the last year but i have no real boxing experience myself.

Keeping a training log on here is a new way of keeping myself motivated. I am 5'9 and 14.5 stone (203 lbs), fairly stocky, alot of people say i dont look what i weigh.

About a year and a half ago i weighed in at a cool 20 stone (280 lbs). so i had a quiet work and got my ass onto the treadmill and i have boiled my way down, i dont think i have done too bad a job, but i seriously need to tone myself up, and possibly drop another 20 or so lbs.

Ill have a closer look at other peoples training logs so i am not pissing people off by over posting or whatever but please, if anyone has any suggestions on how i should train (i am willing to do boxing style training which i why i posted here - but i attend the gym on my own) or what or how i should eat to attain my goals then please post.

Ill hit you all back tomorrow, and thanks in advance for the advice!

Heya Bert welcome. You may find some of our logs are sorta stale and not updated regularly, but it don't mean we aren't training. For some of us we train pretty much daily, but the logging of it gets mundane as it is a lot of repetition.

Logs are a great idea, and especially when starting out. It helps keep you on track and I recommend you stick to it.

If you have questions put them here, and you'll likely get answers. This site sometimes takes a while for replies, but there is a good amount of depth and knowledge and usually worth the wait.

Again, welcome, and good luck in your training!

Like YB says Bert just load up & people will be happy to help.

I don't put up my own log because I've only got the energy for working out, not writing about it.

Let us know what you're looking to do fitness wise & I'm sure at least one of us will come up with a suggestion that is helpful

If you're looking to cut weight & using a treadmill, can I ask what kind of time you're running?

I'm gonna assume your doing long runs & a steady, not overly rapid pace. I've generally found the one thing treadmills are good for is interval training. For example, lets say your first time you go on

use the first minute to be going at a kind of brisk walk

for the second minute, up that to a steady jog, still not too fast

for the third, run as fast as you can manage safely for the whole minute

when that minute is up do the cycle over again & repeat once more after that.

This is a fairly intense workout that should last you 10 minutes & will certainly help you cut weight well, if you do it every other day for a fortnight to see if you get results.

The only thing I would say is do a trial run of each bit so you know what you can safely sprint at, often whilst you're changin the speed. Don't push yourself until you know what feels safe the first time. After you've done it once, try upping the speed on each bit just slightly every time to push yourself.

Ill add a bit more about what im currently doing tonight so people can suggest changed to my routine & diet etc...ill also try and post what im eating too, diet is a weak point for me at the moment because im lazy and can never be bothered to cook anything decent so open to suggestions here too!

got football tonight which isnt rigorous, but its a good laugh and is good for the legs as you arent only running forwards all the time.

    thanks all!
