Default How great can a fallen fighter become?

I never really said much about price getting knocked out it was a shock but echoed his olympic defeat also, he came up against a world class fighter and was taken out. I have heard this that and it was illegal round the head bla bla from maloney and others. My question is has there ever been a great heavy who had a similar setback? I know ali was dropped by sonny banks and cooper but never stopped. Price may become world champ but can he be great? Or will he be brunoesque.....

Loads of great fighters have lost and more than once.

I think it does a fighter no harm at all to lose early in their career.

Its gonna be a long time before we can call any Heavyweight a great again, just isn't the name pedigree opposition to fight against which is how most hardcore fight fans judge a fighter.

    I know I do

Joe Louis and Lennox Lewis are heavyweight greats, so they can come back. Some how I do not think Price can reach those heights.

Joe Louis was undefeated and the hottest fighter in the world at the time of this fight, he didn't lose again for 15 years!

That will be totally up to Price of course, but Louis proved that it can be done, Schmelling was always going to be a tough fight for Louis at that time. Patterson did it too after a crushing defeat at the hands of Johannsen.

Interesting that you asked the question specifically concerning heavyweights. Wlad was laid out by Ross Purity who compares to Thompson and then went on to get kissed by the canvas about ten more times. Love him or hate him he adjusted as a fighter as boring as he is and has now been undefeated in over ten years. Langford was stopped about 10 times. Armstrong lost 3 of his first 4 fights and was stretched out in his first.

Hopkins lost his first fight, and I saw a thread recently were people were rating one of the all time greats.

So literally from a boxer without a win to one of the greatest.

As far as HW goes, we're in such bad shape.

We need to spawn 20 world class heavyweight fighters from somewhere, just so the next big thing has decent fighters to beat.

When considered like that you see just how far from decency we are.

Price does seem to have large comparisons to wlad.. I remember the sanders fight he got involved and got bowled over he needs to use his strengths reach and movement., a great british success story is johnny nelson love or hate him he lost loads of fights but then won a world title and was a boring but strong champ. Good book he has too...

Both Lewis and Wlad in recent times went on to become the best Heavyweight in the world despite stoppage defeats. I think Price was trying to catch up to Tyson Fury and maybe he should have won his Lonsdale belt outright first before jumping to this level. I think it was bad management putting him in with Thompson.

When you consider even price didn't think he was ready.

When you consider events e didn't think he was ready.
i thought he would win the fight, if they fought tomorrow i would think the same

boxers sometimes have stoppage defeats and quite often when they are stepping up

they learn from it and next time they step up they dont make the same mistake

its natural that people will start to shout about his weak chin now

Look at Audley, he could still prove us wrong.
